  • The purpose of this study is to analyze college students' TV advertising information recognition, comprehension and affecting factors on them. Data were collected by a survey of college student consumers after experiments with TV commercials. ANOVA, Duncan, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were carried out with the gathered data. The results are as follows. First, the TV advertising information comprehension degree of the college students consumers were shown to be low, by 41.2%. The comprehension degree was especially low when the information was presented visually without any verbal expression. Second, assuming that the comprehension of TV advertisements is defined by a correct perceptual understanding after recognizing the consumer-deception factors, the percentage of correct answers was poor, by 29.2%. Third, according to sex, average monthly income, degree of immersion on TV commercials, advertisement attitude, and consumer education of school, the TV advertisement information recognition and comprehension showed varying degrees between the groups. In the case of women students whose average monthly income was 100 to 300 thousand Korean won, had a high degree of immersion on TV commercials, and a high degree of consumer education at school, the TV advertising information recognition was shown to be high. In the case of third year college students who had a medium level of immersion on TV commercials and a high degree of consumer education at school, the TV advertisement comprehension was high. Fourth, the high explanatory factor of TV advertising information recognition and comprehension was found to be common because of consumer education at school.

  • This study integrates the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE) with a grid-based GIS method to assess the potential risk of soil erosion at the watershed scale. Data used in this study to generate the RUSLE factors include several thematic maps such as land use, topographic and soil maps, together with tabular precipitation data. Based on the RUSLE estimation for all the grids(10m cells) in the corresponding watershed, a cumulative histogram for the annual soil loss can be constructed. As the results, it shows that the 83.5% value of the annual soil loss for the watershed is less than 1ton/ha. However, the above 30% of agricultural land is defined as a medium or very high-risk area(more than 10ton/ha/yr). So it is necessary to establish soil conservation practices to reduce soil erosion based on the field observations.

  • The research was carried out to define the morphological and growth characteristics of Poa pratensis L. (Kentucky bluegrass) 'Pureundul' native to Korea. Poa pratensis 'Pureundul' was collected from the belt highway around Mt. Uam located in Naedeok-dong, Cheongju City, Chungcheongbuk-do Province on May 5, 1995. The morphological characteristics of 'Pureundul' were compared with those of 205 individuals of native Poa pratensis collected throughout the nation from June 11, 2000 to June 21, 2003. The findings were as follows : The height of plant was 28.2cm but increased to 40.0cm at the flowering time. The height of first node from the base was 6.8cm and the length and width of leaf were 17.3cm and 2.9mm, respectively. The length of a spike was 7.9cm. Based on these morphological characteristics, 'Pureundul' was defined medium type Kentucky bluegrass. Visual quality(1~9), visual color and visual density were measured. The visual quality, color and density of 'Pureundul' were not superior to those of introduced species but above the average other native species. The damages from the diseases during summer resulted in poorer visual quality of color of 'Pureundul'. But the spread of the diseases was slower in 'Pureundul' than other native species, and accordingly 'Pureundul' didn't suffer from more quality deterioration from July to September during which the diseases broke out. Entering fall, 'Pureundul' showed high quality comparable to that of the introduced species. If 'Pureundul' is put to breeding by implementing pest control in summer and introducing disease tolerant genes, it will be used to make greens of greater quality than now.

  • This study investigated the influence of probabilistic variability in stiffness and nonlinearity of soil on response of nuclear power plant (NPP) structure subjected to seismic loads considering the soil-structure interaction (SSI). Both deterministic and probabilistic methods have been employed to evaluate the dynamic responses of the structure. For the deterministic method, $SRP_{min}$ method given in USNRC SRP 3.7.2(2013) (envelope of responses using three shear modulus profiles of lower bound($G_{LB}$), best estimate($G_{BE}$) and upper bound($G_{UB}$)) and $SRP_{max}$ method (envelope of responses by more than three ground profiles within range of $G_{LB}{\leq}G{\leq}G_{UB}$) have been considered. The probabilistic method uses the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) that can capture probabilistic feature of soil stiffness defined by the median and the standard deviation. These analysis results indicated that 1) number of samples shall be larger than 60 to apply the probabilistic approach in SSI analysis and 2) in-structure response spectra using equivalent linear soil profiles considering the nonlinear behavior of soil medium can be larger than those based on low-strain soil profiles.

  • Purpose: Despite the high incidence, the incidence of atopic dermatitis among adolescents has been continuously increasing. The study was conducted to examine the severity of atopic dermatitis among middle school students and to identify the factors affecting the severity. Methods: The data used in the analysis are from 2015 Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. Complex sample analysis was conducted to analyze the severity of atopic dermatitis which was defined by the treatment experience of atopic dermatitis and the number of absent days due to the disease as its criteria. Binary logistic regression of the factors affecting the severity of atopic dermatitis by gender was done. Results: The severity of atopic dermatitis was high in male students who were in a lower grade (freshmen), who smoked, or who consumed soft drinks at least once a week, while in female students who were in a lower grade (freshmen, sophomore), who consumed alcohol, who consumed highly caffeinated drinks at least once a week or who consumed sweet drinks at least once a week. The severity of atopic dermatitis was lower in female students who lived in big cities or medium/small sized cities or engaged in physical activities less than three times a week. Conclusion: For atopic dermatitis among middle school students, the importance of dietary management should be considered. This indicates that families, schools, and communities have their own responsibilities and efforts to relieve the symptoms of the atopic dermatitis.

  • Purpose: Computed tomography (CT) with intravenous (IV) contrast is an important step in the evaluation of trauma patients; however, the risk factors for contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in these patients remain unclear. This study determined the rate of CIN in trauma patients at a regional trauma center in Korea and identified the risk factors for developing CIN. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 138 patients for the patient demographics, creatinine levels, and vital signs. CIN was defined as an increase in creatinine by 0.5 mg/dL from admission after undergoing CT with IV contrast. Results: Of the patients, 7.2% developed CIN during their admission after receiving IV contrast for CT. In the multivariate analysis, only the creatinine level at presentation (Adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 5.944; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.486-23.733; p=0.012) and an injury severity score (ISS) greater than 22 (aOR, 1.096; 95% CI, 1.021-1.176; p=0.011) were independently associated with the risk of CIN. Conclusion: CIN is uncommon in trauma patients following CT with IV contrast. The creatinine level at presentation and ISS were independent risk factors for developing CIN in trauma patients.

  • This study empirically analyzes the relationship between market structure and R&D activities. Especially, the outcome of R&D activities could be imitated or plagiarized by nearby competitors before it is protected legally through patenting, it would work as a club good and its market structure need to be defined at the geographic level of city, county or ward rather than the whole nation. According to the regression results of this study using Survey on Technology Statistics of Small- and Medium-Sized Firms, individual firms' R&D investment is more active when market structure of area(city, county, or ward)-industry(two-digit industry) is monopolistic or oligopolistic rather than competitive. However, as the variable representing market structure is redefined over a geographic scope of 16 metropolitan areas or provinces, 6 regions, or the whole nation, the relationship between market structure and R&D activities seems to become weak. Moreover, when the R&D expenditure is divided by its source, more active R&D spending in a less competitive market is observed as long as it is procured by internal fund of the firm in question.

  • The effects of rotary oscillation on the unsteady laminar flow past a circular cylinder. are numerically investigated in the present study. The numerical solutions for the 20 Wavier-Stokes equation are obtained using a finite volume method Tn the framework of an overlapping grid system. The vortex formation behind a circular cylinder and the hydrodynamics of wake flows for different rotary oscillation conditions are analyzed from the results of numerical simulation. The lock-on region is defined as the region that the natural shedding frequency due to the Karmann Vortex shedding and the forcing frequency due to the forced oscillating a cylinder are nearly same, and the quasi-periodic states are observed around that region. At the intersection between lock-on and non-lock-on region the shedding frequency is bifurcated. After the bifurcation, one frequency fellows the forcing frequency($S_f$) and the other returns to the natural shedding frequency($St_0$). in the quasi-periodic states, the variation of magnitudes and relevant phase changes of $C_L$ with forcing phase are examined.

  • In an attempt to optimize the in vitro-regeneration conditions necessary for the genetic manipulation of tomato species, we examined 'Ailsa Graig' cultivar of Lycopersicon for regeneration ability. The basal medium used for callus formation and shoot regeneration was MS (MS + vitamin) supplemented with six combinations of zeatin 2 mg/l, zeatin 2 mg/l + IAA 0.1 mg/l, zeatin 2 mg/l + IAA 0.5 mg/l, zeatin 4 mg/l, zeatin 4 mg/l + IAA 0.1 mg/l and zeatin 4 mg/l + IAA 0.5 mg/l. When all conditions tested were considered, however, only zeatin 2 mg/l was shown to be the best in shoot regeneration. The morphological characterization from in vitro-cultured callus of Lycopersicon esculentum L. var. 'Ailsa Craig' was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surfaces of in vitro-cultured callus had well-defined epidermal cell in condition of zeatin 2 mg/l, but those of different treatments were twisted. These results suggested that shape of callus was involved in efficiency of shoot regeneration in tomato 'Ailsa Craig'.

  • Recently hepatocyte-based bioartificial liver (BAL) and hepatocyte transplantation have been actively investigated to treat acute hepatic failure. The BAL acts as a bridge to provide patients with more time until a donor organ becomes available for transplantation or until their own liver can be regenerated. In this study, we manufactured a polyurethane foam (PUF) using 15% NCO-prepolymer with a pore opening that allows it to be used as a hepatocyte immobilizing material. Cubes of PUF (3 mm dim.) were seeded with rat primary hepatocytes at a density of 5.5$\pm$1.1$\times$ $10^6$ cells/$cm^3$ PUF by centrifuging them together. The cell laden PUF cubes were packed into a prototype reactor and perfused with a hormonally defined medium for a week. Hepatocytes in the pores of the PUF formed spheroids that showed stable ammonia removal and urea synthesis activities. The albumin production level was comparable to other BAL systems. The PUF packed hepatocyte bioreactor has the potential to be used as a BAL.
