A Taxonomy of Workflow Architectures

  • This paper proposes a conceptual taxonomy of architectures for workflow management systems. The systematic classification work is based on a framework for workflow architectures. The framework, consisting of generic-level, conceptual-level and implementation-level architectures, provides common architectural principles for designing a workflow management system. We define the taxonomy by considering the possibilities for centralization or distribution of data, control, and execution. That is, we take into account three criteria. How are the major components of a workflow model and system, like activities, roles, actors, and workcases, concretized in workflow architecture. Which of the components is represented as software modules of the workflow architecture\ulcorner And how are they configured and operating in the architecture\ulcorner The workflow components might be embodied, as active (processes or threads) modules or as passive (data) modules, in the software architecture of a workflow management system. One or combinations of the components might become software modules in the software architecture. Finally, they might be centralized or distributed. The distribution of the components should be broken into three: Vertically, Horizontally and Fully distributed. Through the combination of these aspects, we can conceptually generate about 64 software Architectures for a workflow management system. That is, it should be possible to comprehend and characterize all kinds of software architectures for workflow management systems including the current existing systems as well as future systems. We believe that this taxonomy is a significant contribution because it adds clarity, completeness, and global perspective to workflow architectural discussions. The vocabulary suggested here includes workflow levels and aspects, allowing very different architectures to be discussed, compared, and contrasted. Added clarity is obtained because similar architectures from different vendors that used different terminology and techniques can now be seen to be identical at the higher level. Much of the complexity can be removed by thinking of workflow systems. Therefore, it is used to categorize existing workflow architectures and suggest a plethora of new workflow architectures. Finally, the taxonomy can be used for sorting out gems and stones amongst the architectures possibly generated. Thus, it might be a guideline not only for characterizing the existing workflow management systems, but also for solving the long-term and short-term architectural research issues, such as dynamic changes in workflow, transactional workflow, dynamically evolving workflow, large-scale workflow, etc., that have been proposed in the literature.

The Measurement of Femoral Neck Anteversion by 3D Modeling of Femoral Major Axes (대퇴골 주요축의 3차원 모델링에 의한 전염각의 측정)

  • The accurate measurement of the femoral anteversion is important for the derotational osteotomy. To estimate femoral anteversion, following three major parameters are required; the neck axis, the long axis, and the knee axis. Conventional methods on the basis of 2D images are ambiguous to determine these major axes. As the femur has a complex 3 dimensional structure, the 3 dimensional model should be applied for accurate and reliable measurement of femoral anteversion. In this thesis, we model femur and define three parameters. The neck axis is defined from the femoral head and neck model. The long axis is determined from the cylindrical model of the femoral shaft. The knee axis is also determined from the model of femoral condyles. According to the definition of the femoral anteversion, the femoral anteversion is efficiently estimated from these models. 20 specimens were tested by the conventional 2D imaging method and 3D imaging method witch was developed by authors and the new 3D modeling method. The study provides accurate, fast and human factor free measurement for femoral anteversion.

A Static Scintigraphy for Imaging Aspiration Using Semi-Solid Food (반고형식을 이용한 정적 흡인 영상법)

  • Purpose: Aspiration scintigraphy is a procedure of nuclear imaging to evaluate aspiration and of quantifying the amount of aspirate. The ultimate goal of our study is to define the correlation between aspiration and aspiration pneumonia by aspiration scintigraphy and this is a preliminary report of its trial. Materials and methods: Ten patients with positive findings by videofluoroscopy were selected. The patients ingested semi-solid food containing Tc-99m tin colloid 92.5 MBq (2.5 mCi) and images were acquired immediately after the ingestion and 3 hrs later. A fraction of aspiration to the ingested was calculated using an equation with a decay correction. Results: Five patients were interpreted positive by aspiration scintigraphy. Four patients were positive at initial images and the fractions of aspiration were 0.11%, 0.11%, 0.81%, and 0.11%. The one patient who was shown aspirated at both images had initial 5.82% and delayed 2.26%. Conclusion: Aspiration scintigraphy enables us to localize the aspiration at any desired time of the test and to quantify its amount. Follow-up studies are warranted.

A study of quantitative correlation between step animation and emotional expressions (스텝 애니메이션과 감성 표현 사이의 정량적 상호관계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to define the emotion that expressed in step animation and to quantify the intuitional expression of emotion that related step for using extract, measure, analysis the stimulate element about step. The survey of relation with 27 word of emotional expressions and 36 moving pictures of step sample is used for method of this test. The emotional mental structure is transferred to 2 dimensional planes as applying the results of analysis of integrated data using Quantification Method 3, which the integrated data is composed two axial - confidential axial and stabling axial. Analysis of distribution of 2 dimensional diagram shows that the second of the plane and the third of the plane have much data. However, the first of the plane and the forth of the plane have a little data. Through this kind of analysis of graph, it is difficult to express a different emotion between unstable the timidity mind and stable feel the timidity mind using only step analysis. Six difference types about physical elements affecting to emotion are selected and analyzed such as the paces of step, the rate of step, the movement angle of pelvis, the swing range of arm, angle of backbone and the lean angle of body. The result is that the rate of stop and the lean angle of body are the major element that effects to emotional stimulate of stop. This thesis argues about methods transforming subjective expression to objective and quantitative expression with the state of delicate emotion of character apply to step animation naturally. Those data to apply to multi-contents in future are the main target in this study.

  • Hatching and developing great human resource is getting important in these competitive business environments. It is important to define and utilize personalized competence model for individual firm before hatching and developing its HR. Competence is a unique set of behavior shown as a result of sum of knowledge, skill, value and other personal traits in his/her working environment and the systematic process finding and defining the competence is called competence modeling. The purpose of this study was to perform competence modeling for a small-medium size IT firm N especially for its salespeople and offer suggestions of the usage of the result. Competence model was developed by 'Covering general model' suggested by Dubois. To confirm the validity, survey and workshop was conducted and the model was finalized based on the results. As a result, total 14 core competencies were found and defined by the core salesperson of the firm N. Also the competencies were categorized into three based on the timing of the usage. Additionally, this study offers the ways to utilize the result as foundation for competence based HR system and HRD program for firm N.

Issues of Learner-Centered Studio Classes in Landscape Architectural Education (조경교육에 있어 학습자 중심 스튜디오 수업의 쟁점)

  • The knowledge-based society of the 21st century requires a new kind of professional. Studio education has been the core pedagogical method to bridge the practical world and higher education in the field of landscape architecture. However, it is questioned whether studio classes have truly been performed from the learners' perspectives to solidify the competencies to meet the demands of the changing society. This study tries to draw key issues related to studio pedagogy in order to make a foundation for the improvement of studio classes in landscape architectural education. Five issues regarding landscape architectural studio education have been suggested through the literature review of three categories: the core competencies required for the future professionals, the pedagogical paradigm shift, and the changes along the evolution of landscape professions and curricula. The first issue is suggested as to approach the competencies from the holistic and systematic approach to define landscape architectural professionals for the 21st century. Second, studio classes should be redefined in the context of an entire curriculum, and, as a consequence, the linkage among the individual courses is found to be important. Third, design studio classes need to be restructured to have differentiated pedagogical objectives for the development of the learning phase. Fourth, it becomes crucial to research the pedagogical methodology and the reflective actions of instructors. Finally, it is required to think about what it means to be practical in the context of studio classes and the enhancement of educational infrastructure for the studio classes is to be important.

  • Is there my relationship between a port information system and a port type? This paper aims to define its relationship through a study on the port types of advanced countries and their information systems. In terms of port ownership and its governing body, the port type can be divided into 4 types: state-run, public corporation, local government-run, and private ownership. According to the port type, the major activities of ports are different. In the case of a state-run and local government-run port, they put emphasis on the function of administration, but a public corporation and private ownership stress the importance of customer services. The study results of the mutual relationship of a port type and an information system show that the state-run and local government-run ports have a good administration-oriented system, and public corporation and privatized ports have an excellent customer-oriented community system and e-business system. The differences in the information system by port type provide an important suggestion to the improvement of information system of Busan Port Authority. As Busan port has been transformed from a state-run type to a public corporation, a new port information system has to be followed. Accordingly, this study has suggested a three-stage development plan: The first is a mirroring stage of stabilizing the port management, the second is a cooperation stage of enhancing customer services through the establishment of a community system, and the third is an e-business stage of developing a profit system in order to create value added.

  • IPSec(Internet Protocol Security) is a framework for a set of protocols for security at the network or packet processing layer of network communication. IPSec is providing authentication, integrity and confidentiality security services. The specifications for Internet Key Exchange(IKEv1) were released to the world. Some criticisms of IKEv1 were that it was too complex and endeavored to define too much functionality in one place. Multiple options for multiple scenarios were built into the specification. The problem is that some of the included scenarios are rarely if ever encountered. For IPsec to work, the sending and receiving devices must chare a Public Key. This is accomplished through a protocol known as Internet Security Association and Key Management Protocol/Oakley(ISAKMP/Oakley), which allows the receiver to obtain a public key and authenticate the sender using digital certificates.   • KCTA(Korea Container Terminal Authority) is going to introduce automated operating system in the port of Gwangyang container terminal to enhance the efficiency. Prior to developing the container terminal, defining the objective of container terminal operation is essential. This research used AHP technique to define the operation objective of automated container terminal objectively, and the questionnaire to collect the opinions of future customer, operator and research institution. The objectives mix of the automated container terminal are composed of the minimization of initial investments, the minimization of operational expenses, the performance of automation system, the raising of operation efficiency and productivity and the improvement of customer service. The result of the analysis revealed that most important factor among objectives mix was “the minimization of operation expense”. Especially, the user group preferred to select the factor of “the improvement of customer service”as objective rather than select other objectives. The result of this research will suggest some guidelines for deciding the level of investment of terminal construction. information system, automation equipment, terminal worker and etc., which are to be considered in terminal development and the system development hereafter.

A Study on the Optimization Problem for Offshore Oil Production and Transportation (해양 석유 생산 및 수송 최적화 문제에 관한 연구)

  • The offshore oil production requires a huge amount of cost and time accompanied by multiple variables due to the peculiar nature of 'offshore'. And every process concerned is controlled by elaborate series of plans for reducing loss of lives, environment and property. This paper treats an optimization problem for offshore oil production and transportation. We present an offshore production and transportation network to define scope of the problem and construct a mixed integer linear programming model to tackle it. To demonstrate the validity of the optimization model presented, some computational experiments based on hypothetical offshore oil fields and demand markets are carried out by using MS Office Excel solver. The downstream of the offshore production and transportation network ends up with the maritime transportation problem distributing the crude oil produced from offshore fields to demand markets. We used MoDiSS(Model-based DSS in Ship Scheduling) which was built to resolve this maritime transportation problem. The paper concludes with the remark that the results of the study might be meaningfully applicable to the real world problems of offshore oil production and transportation.
