  • In this paper, we have described the performance improvement of surveillance radar to prevent damage or malfunction of surveillance radar RF head unit due to the strong reflections caused by artificial obstacles at close range. We have proposed a technique to improve the performance of the RF head unit as a solution to overcome the limitations of the operating system and improve radar performance. We have verified the effectiveness of the improvement by comparing the before and after results applied to actual system.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method which can be applied to test and verify the stabilization-tracking performance of Gun/Turret Driving System(GTDS) for Light Armed Helicopter(LAH). In real system, GTDS is connected to TADS/SMC and drived to aim at the target with 20mm gun. But each equipment is separately developed during exploratory development stage, so GTDS cannot be tested under real system state. We suggest new configuration of test system for evaluating the stabilization-tacking performance, in which TADS and SMC are replaced by vision acquisition unit and processing unit, respectively.

  • The thermal response of elastomeric insulators used as protection against high-temperature and high-pressure combustion gases varies depending on their composition and thermal environment conditions. In this paper, the thermal response characteristics of elastomeric insulators in different mixing environments were compared. Tests to determine thermal protection performance were carried out using a thermal protection rubber evaluation motor(TPREM), combustion gas velocities of 20 m/s and 100 m/s were tested at a chamber pressure of 1,000 psig. The pressure time curve of the chamber, the temperature time curve of the internal materials, the residual thickness and the thermal destruction depth of the test specimens were obtained. The results showed that the thermal protection performance of elastomeric insulators in different mixing environments was similar.

  • This study seeks to examine and analyze the influence of institutional strengthening factors, and capacity building - communication, resources, and training - on the performance of defense policy implementation. This study conducted a quantitative analysis related to the implementation of the institutional strengthening policy. The data used are primary data with a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The population in this study were all people in the city of Bandung, Indonesia. The sample of this study consisted of 200 respondents consisting of civilians and soldiers who served in the city of Bandung. Data analysis uses the Structural Equation Model (SEM) measurement model. The results of this study reveals that institutional strengthening (X1) influences positively and significantly capacity building's communication (Y1), resources (Y2), and training (Y3). On the other hand, the performance of defense policy implementation (Y4) is positively and significantly affected by capacity building's communication (Y1), resources (Y2), and training (Y3). The interaction between institutions, consumption support, role of the healthcare sector, and effectiveness are the most important indicators reflecting capacity building (communication, resources, training) and the performance of defense policy implementation. Essentially, this study analyzes the performance of defense policy implementation based on capacity building.

  • Wavefront-coding imaging can achieve high-quality imaging along with a wide range of defocus. In this paper, the anti-laser detection and damage performance of wavefront-coding imaging systems using different asymmetric phase masks are studied, through modeling and simulation. Based on FresnelKirchhoff diffraction theory, the laser-propagation model of the wavefront-coding imaging system is established. The model uses defocus distance rather than wave aberration to characterize the degree of defocus of an imaging system. Then, based on a given defocus range, an optimization method based on Fisher information is used to determine the optimal phase-mask parameters. Finally, the anti-laser detection and damage performance of asymmetric phase masks at different defocus distances and propagation distances are simulated and analyzed. When studying the influence of defocus distance, compared to conventional imaging, the maximum single-pixel receiving power and echo-detection receiving power of asymmetric phase masks are reduced by about one and two orders of magnitude respectively. When exploring the influence of propagation distance, the maximum single-pixel receiving power of asymmetric phase masks decreases by about one order of magnitude and remains stable, and the echodetection receiving power gradually decreases with increasing propagation distance, until it approaches zero.

  • In this study, a study on the performance and aging of explosive bolts stored for a long time among pyrotechnic mechanical devices(PMD) used as separation devices in the defense field is conducted. For this, explosive bolts that had been installed in the weapon system for about 10 years are secured. Performance and life extension test procedures are established based on the AIAA Standard and MIL-STD. Before performance evaluation, non-functional tests are performed to check whether external changes or failures occurred. Next, circuit inspection and X-ray tests are conducted to check the failure in internal circuits and structures. After that, performance test is carried out to confirm the operation of the samples that passed the non-functional test. Through this test, separation of bolt and separation time are measured, and some samples are tested after a high temperature storage test to confirm the remaining life and the possibility of extension. Finally, the remaining life and reliability are predicted based on the results of the test and the Arrhenius model to identify remaining shelf life and reliability depend on time.

  • Tests and evaluations following the U.S. MIL-HDBK/STANDARD were successfully conducted to assure the performance of the air-to-surface guidance kit which was developed first in Korea. Various ground tests confirmed the operation capability and reliability of the guidance kit, and flight tests proved very good mid-range gliding performance and accuracy of the gliding bomb which was a general purpose bomb with the guidance kit.

  • Adversarial attacks have received great attentions for their capacity to distract state-of-the-art neural networks by modifying objects in physical domain. Patch-based attack especially have got much attention for its optimization effectiveness and feasible adaptation to any objects to attack neural network-based object detectors. However, despite their strong attack performance, generated patches are strongly perceptible for humans, violating the fundamental assumption of adversarial examples. In this paper, we propose a camouflaged adversarial patch optimization method using military camouflage assessment metrics for naturalistic patch attacks. We also investigate camouflaged attack loss functions, applications of various camouflaged patches on army tank images, and validate the proposed approach with extensive experiments attacking Yolov5 detection model. Our methods produce more natural and realistic looking camouflaged patches while achieving competitive performance.
