A computer vision system was built to generate images of a single, stationary egg. This system includes a CGD camera, a frame grabber, and incandescent back lighting system. Image processing algorithms were developed to inspect egg shell and to sort eggs. Those values of both gray level and area of dark spots in the egg image were used as criteria to detect holes in egg and those values of both area and roundness of dark spots in the egg image were used to detect cracks in egg. For a sample of 300 eggs, this system was able to correctly analyze an egg for the presence of a defect 97.5% of the time. The weights of eggs were found to be linear to both the projected area and the perimeter of eggs viewed from above. Those two values were used as criteria to sort eggs. The coefficients of determination(r$^2$) for the regression equations between weights and those two values were 0.967 and 0.972 in the two sets of experiment. Accuracies in grading were found to be 95.6% and 96.7% as compared with results from sizing by electronic weight scale.
A CCTV inspection method has been widely used to assess sewer condition and performance, but Korea lacks a proper decision support system for prioritizing sewer repair and rehabilitation (R&R). The objective of this paper is to introduce the results that we have developed in the Sewer Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation Decision-making (SCARD) Program using MS-EXCEL. The SCARD-Program is based on a standardized defect score for sewer structural and hydraulic assessment. Priorities are ranked based on risk scores, which are calculated by multiplying the sewer severity scores by the environmental impacts. This program is composed of three parts, which are decision-making for sewer condition and performance assessment, decision-making for sewer R&R priority assessment, and decision-making for optimal budget allocation. The SCARD-Program is useful for decision-makers, as it enables them to assess the sewer condition and to prioritize sewer R&R within the limited annual budget. In the future, this program logic will applied to the GIS-based sewer asset management system in local governments.

Crack detection technique by ultrasonics in structures and components made of austenitic stainless steel often loses its reliability due to the material characteristics during inservice inspection of nuclear power plants, especially in the area of detection and sizing in centrifugally cast stainless steel pipings. In order to understand and overcome this problem, computer program for tracing the ultrasonic rays within material has been developed to simulate the process of defect detection within weld. The program simulates through transmission and reflection technique in crack detection of austenitic stainless steel as well as ultrasonic beam propagation through multiple media including stainless steel cladding interface.

Egg production in Korea is becoming automated with a large scale farm. Although many operations in egg production have been and cracks are regraded as a critical problem. A computer vision system was built to generate images of a single , stationary egg. This system includes a CCD camera, a frame grabber board, a personal computer (IBM PC AT 486) and an incandescent back lighting system. Image processing algorithms were developed to inspect egg shell and to sort eggs. Those values of both gray level and area of dark spots in the egg image were used as criteria to detect holes in egg and those values of both area and roundness of dark spots in the egg and those values of both area and roundness of dark spots in the egg image were used to detect cracks in egg. This paper presents experimental results on the application of very low frequency(VLF) voltage to replace conventional DC test as an after laying test for underground distribution cables. We carried out several tests to prove defects detecting ability of VLF test on the 5m length real cables having knife-cut or needle type defects which is made in our La.. Through this experiment we proved it is very difficult to initiate electrical tree from the defects inside of the cable insulation but once the electrical tree is initiated it grows very fast and VLF does not make new defects and expand the defect. Therefore VLF test equipment for quality inspection test of manufacture is more effective than field application for underground distribution cables.
The objective of this research is to estimate the crack location and size of a carbon steel pipe by using a laser ultrasound guided wave for the wall thinning evaluation of an elbow. The wall thinning of the carbon steel pipe is one of the most serious problems in nuclear power plants, especially the wall thinning of the carbon steel elbow caused by Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC). Therefore, a non-destructive inspection method of elbow is essential for the nuclear power plants to operate safely. The specimens used in this study were carbon steel elbows, which represented the main elements of real nuclear power plants. The shape of the wall thinning was an oval with a width of 120mm, a length of 80mm, and a depth of 5mm. The L(0,1) and L(0,2) modes variation of the ultrasound guided wave signal is obtained from the response of the laser generation/air-coupled detection ultrasonic hybrid system represent the characteristics of the defect. The trends of these characteristics and signal processing were used to estimate the size and location of wall thinning.
Full penetration welded steel moment-resisting frame (SMRF) structures with welded box sections are widely employed in steel bridges, where a large number of steel bridges have been in operation for over fifty years in Japan. Welding defects such as incomplete penetration at the beam-column connections of these existing SMRF steel bridge piers were observed during inspection. Previous experiments conducted by the authors' team indicate that gusset stiffeners (termed fillets in this study) at the beam-web-to-column-web joint of the beam-column connections may play an important role on the seismic performance of the connections. This paper aims to experimentally study the effect of the fillet radius on seismic performance of the connections with large welding defects. Four specimens with different sizes of fillet radii were loaded under quasi-static incremental cyclic loading, where different load-displacement relations and cracking behaviors were observed. The experimental results show that, as the size of the fillet radius increases, the seismic performance of the connections can be greatly improved.
In today's competitive business environment it is a necessary condition for a company to produce high-quality product for its survival and growth. That is the case in the auto-part industry as well where the international standards, ISO/TS 16949 certification, are required by customers to adopt mandatory. This study presents a successful implementation of quality management system(QMS) in a major auto-part manufacturer in Korea, utilizing SAP's QM(qualaity management) module and a mobile office system. The QMS brought the company "A" a variety of benefits such as real-time availability of product-inspection data, speedy decision-making, reduction in time required for defect-handling, ease of vertical integration of business partners in supply chain, and ease of business process standardization between headquarters and overseas subsidiaries. It is expected that the findings of this study can be used as a useful guideline for companies to consider implementing ERP-based quality management systems successfully.
Gentry, an SMT equipment, is a device that absorbs electronic components from the feeder and mounts them correctly on the PCB. At this time, the gantry stops in front of the camera to check whether the parts are correctly adsorbed. In this paper, we propose a method to shorten the moving time by moving the gantry without stopping in front of the camera. This method shows that the moving time is shorter than that of the conventional method by finding a path that can be moved in the fastest time among the various moving paths. The proposed method (moving-motion) reduces the gantry travel time by 20% compared to the conventional method (stop-motion).
