  • The paper is to build recommendation systems leveraging Deep Learning and Big Data platform, Spark to predict item ratings of the Amazon e-commerce site. Recommendation system in e-commerce has become extremely popular in recent years and it is very important for both customers and sellers in daily life. It means providing the users with products and services they are interested in. Therecommendation systems need users' previous shopping activities and digital footprints to make best recommendation purpose for next item shopping. We developed the recommendation models in Amazon AWS Cloud services to predict the users' ratings for the items with the massive data set of Amazon customer reviews. We also present Big Data architecture to afford the large scale data set for storing and computation. And, we adopted deep learning for machine learning community as it is known that it has higher accuracy for the massive data set. In the end, a comparative conclusion in terms of the accuracy as well as the performance is illustrated with the Deep Learning architecture with Spark ML and the traditional Big Data architecture, Spark ML alone.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence related technologies including machine learning are being applied to various fields, and the demand is also increasing. In particular, with the development of AR, VR, and MR technologies related to image processing, the utilization of computer vision based on deep learning has increased. The algorithms for object recognition and detection based on deep learning required for image processing are diversified and advanced. Accordingly, problems that were difficult to solve with the existing methodology were solved more simply and easily by using deep learning. This paper introduces various deep learning-based object recognition and extraction algorithms used to detect and recognize various objects in an image and analyzes the technologies that attract attention.

  • Name separation (splitting full names into surnames and given names) is not a tedious task in a multiethnic country because the procedure for splitting surnames and given names is ethnicity-specific. Malaysia has multiple main ethnic groups; therefore, separating Malaysian full names into surnames and given names proves a challenge. In this study, we develop a two-phase framework for Malaysian name separation using deep learning. In the initial phase, we predict the ethnicity of full names. We propose a recurrent neural network with long short-term memory network-based model with character embeddings for prediction. Based on the predicted ethnicity, we use a rule-based algorithm for splitting full names into surnames and given names in the second phase. We evaluate the performance of the proposed model against various machine learning models and demonstrate that it outperforms them by an average of 9%. Moreover, transfer learning and fine-tuning of the proposed model with an additional dataset results in an improvement of up to 7% on average.

  • In recent years, one of deep learning models called Deep Belief Network (DBN) which formed by stacking restricted Boltzman machine in a greedy fashion has beed widely used for classification and recognition. With an ability to extracting features of high-level abstraction and deal with higher dimensional data structure, this model has ouperformed outstanding result on image and speech recognition. In this research, we assess the applicability of deep learning in dna classification level. Since the training phase of DBN is costly expensive, specially if deals with DNA sequence with thousand of variables, we introduce a new encoding method, using decimal-binary vector to represent the sequence as input to the model, thereafter compare with one-hot-vector encoding in two datasets. We evaluated our proposed model with different contrastive algorithms which achieved significant improvement for the training speed with comparable classification result. This result has shown a potential of using decimal-binary vector on DBN for DNA sequence to solve other sequence problem in bioinformatics.

  • In this paper, we propose a new model for predicting effective Win/Loss in professional baseball game in Korea using machine learning technique. we used basic baseball data and Sabermetrics data, which are highly correlated with score to predict and we used the deep learning technique to learn based on supervised learning. The Drop-Out algorithm and the ReLu activation function In the trained neural network, the expected odds was calculated using the predictions of the team's expected scores and expected loss. The team with the higher expected rate of victory was predicted as the winning team. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model, we compared the actual percentage of win, pythagorean expectation, and win percentage of the proposed model.

  • Among artificial intelligence techniques, deep learning is a model that has been used in many places and has proven its effectiveness. However, deep learning models are not used effectively in everywhere. In this paper, we will show the limitations of deep learning models through comparison of regression analysis and deep learning models, and present a guide for effective use of deep learning models. In addition, among various techniques used for optimization of deep learning models, data normalization and data shuffling techniques, which are widely used, are compared and evaluated based on actual data to provide guidelines for increasing the accuracy and value of deep learning models.

  • Deep extreme learning machine (DELM) and multi-verse optimization algorithms (MVO) are hybridized for designing an optimal and adaptive control framework for uncertain buildings. In this approach, first, a robust model predictive control (RMPC) scheme is developed to handle the problem uncertainty. The optimality and adaptivity of the proposed controller are provided by the optimal determination of the tunning weights of the linear programming (LP) cost function for clustered external loads using the MVO. The final control policy is achieved by collecting the clustered data and training them by DELM. The efficiency of the introduced control scheme is demonstrated by the numerical simulation of a ten-story benchmark building subjected to earthquake excitations. The results represent the capability of the proposed framework compared to robust MPC (RMPC), conventional MPC (CMPC), and conventional DELM algorithms in structural motion control.
