  • Speech Emotions recognition has become the active research theme in speech processing and in applications based on human-machine interaction. In this work, our system is a two-stage approach, namely feature extraction and classification engine. Firstly, two sets of feature are investigated which are: the first one is extracting only 13 Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) from emotional speech samples and the second one is applying features fusions between the three features: Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR), Teager Energy Operator (TEO), and Harmonic to Noise Rate (HNR) and MFCC features. Secondly, we use two types of classification techniques which are: the Support Vector Machines (SVM) and the k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) to show the performance between them. Besides that, we investigate the importance of the recent advances in machine learning including the deep kernel learning. A large set of experiments are conducted on Surrey Audio-Visual Expressed Emotion (SAVEE) dataset for seven emotions. The results of our experiments showed given good accuracy compared with the previous studies.

  • Deep learning requires building a deep neural network, collecting a large amount of training data, and then training the built neural network for a long time. If training does not proceed properly or overfitting occurs, training will fail. When using deep learning tools that have been developed so far, it takes a lot of time to collect training data and learn. However, due to the rapid advent of the mobile environment and the increase in sensor data, the demand for real-time deep learning technology that can dramatically reduce the time required for neural network learning is rapidly increasing. In this study, a real-time deep learning system was implemented using an Arduino system equipped with a fine dust sensor. In the implemented system, fine dust data is measured every 30 seconds, and when up to 120 are accumulated, learning is performed using the previously accumulated data and the newly accumulated data as a dataset. The neural network for learning was composed of one input layer, one hidden layer, and one output. To evaluate the performance of the implemented system, learning time and root mean square error (RMSE) were measured. As a result of the experiment, the average learning error was 0.04053796, and the average learning time of one epoch was about 3,447 seconds.

  • Background: Identification of radioisotopes for plastic scintillation detectors is challenging because their spectra have poor energy resolutions and lack photo peaks. To overcome this weakness, many researchers have conducted radioisotope identification studies using machine learning algorithms; however, the effect of data normalization on radioisotope identification has not been addressed yet. Furthermore, studies on machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers for plastic scintillation detectors are limited. Materials and Methods: In this study, machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers were implemented, and their performances according to data normalization methods were compared. Eight classes of radioisotopes consisting of combinations of 22Na, 60Co, and 137Cs, and the background, were defined. The training set was generated by the random sampling technique based on probabilistic density functions acquired by experiments and simulations, and test set was acquired by experiments. Support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), and convolutional neural network (CNN) were implemented as radioisotope identifiers with six data normalization methods, and trained using the generated training set. Results and Discussion: The implemented identifiers were evaluated by test sets acquired by experiments with and without gain shifts to confirm the robustness of the identifiers against the gain shift effect. Among the three machine learning-based radioisotope identifiers, prediction accuracy followed the order SVM > ANN > CNN, while the training time followed the order SVM > ANN > CNN. Conclusion: The prediction accuracy for the combined test sets was highest with the SVM. The CNN exhibited a minimum variation in prediction accuracy for each class, even though it had the lowest prediction accuracy for the combined test sets among three identifiers. The SVM exhibited the highest prediction accuracy for the combined test sets, and its training time was the shortest among three identifiers.

  • As one of the essential resources in the agricultural process, soil moisture has been carefully managed by predicting future changes and deficits. In recent years, statistics and machine learning based approach to predict soil moisture has been preferred in academia for its generalizability and ease of use in the field. However, little is known that machine learning based soil moisture prediction is applicable in the situation of South Korea. In this sense, this paper aims to examine 1) whether publicly available weather data generated in South Korea has sufficient quality to predict soil moisture, 2) which machine learning algorithm would perform best in the situation of South Korea, and 3) whether a single machine learning model could be generally applicable in various regions. We used various machine learning methods such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Extremely Randomized Trees (ET), Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), and Deep Feedforward Network (DFN) to predict future soil moisture in Andong, Boseong, Cheolwon, Suncheon region with open source weather data. As a result, GBM model showed the lowest prediction error in every data set we used (R squared: 0.96, RMSE: 1.8). Furthermore, GBM showed the lowest variance of prediction error between regions which indicates it has the highest generalizability.

  • The range of problems that can be handled by the activation of big data and the development of hardware has been rapidly expanded and machine learning such as deep learning has become a very versatile technology. In this paper, mnist data set is used as experimental data, and the Cross Entropy function is used as a loss model for evaluating the efficiency of machine learning, and the value of the loss function in the steepest descent method is We applied the Gradient Descent Optimize algorithm to minimize and updated weight and bias via backpropagation. In this way we analyze optimal reliability value corresponding to the number of exercises and optimal reliability value without overfitting. And comparing the overfitting time according to the number of data changes based on the number of training times, when the training frequency was 1110 times, we obtained the result of 92%, which is the optimal reliability value without overfitting.

  • Machine-learning techniques have been actively employed to information security in recent years. Traditional rule-based security solutions are vulnerable to advanced attacks due to unpredictable behaviors and unknown vulnerabilities. By employing ML techniques, we are able to develop intrusion detection systems (IDS) based on anomaly detection instead of misuse detection. Moreover, threshold issues in anomaly detection can also be resolved through machine-learning. There are very few datasets for network intrusion detection compared to datasets for malicious code. KDD CUP 99 (KDD) is the most widely used dataset for the evaluation of IDS. Numerous studies on ML-based IDS have been using KDD or the upgraded versions of KDD. In this work, we develop an IDS model using CSE-CIC-IDS 2018, a dataset containing the most up-to-date common network attacks. We employ deep-learning techniques and develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for CSE-CIC-IDS 2018. We then evaluate its performance comparing with a recurrent neural network (RNN) model. Our experimental results show that the performance of our CNN model is higher than that of the RNN model when applied to CSE-CIC-IDS 2018 dataset. Furthermore, we suggest a way of improving the performance of our model.

  • Currently, studies using Deep Learning are actively carried out showing good results in many fields. A template matching method is mainly used to recognize parts mounted on PCB(Printed Circuit Board). However, template matching should have multiple templates depending on the shape, orientation and brightness. And it takes long time to perform matching because it searches for the entire image. And there is also a disadvantage that the recognition rate is considerably low. In this paper, we use the Faster-RCNN method for recognizing PCB components as machine learning for classifying several objects in one image. This method performs better than the template matching method, execution time and recognition.

  • The attack trend on end-users via mobile devices is increasing in both the danger level and the number of attacks. Especially, mobile devices using the Android operating system are being recognized as increasingly being exploited and attacked strongly. In addition, one of the recent attack methods on the Android operating system is to take advantage of Android Package Kit (APK) files. Therefore, the problem of early detecting and warning attacks on mobile devices using the Android operating system through the APK file is very necessary today. This paper proposes to use the method of analyzing abnormal behavior of APK files and use it as a basis to conclude about signs of malware attacking the Android operating system. In order to achieve this purpose, we propose 2 main tasks: i) analyzing and extracting abnormal behavior of APK files; ii) detecting malware in APK files based on behavior analysis techniques using machine learning or deep learning algorithms. The difference between our research and other related studies is that instead of focusing on analyzing and extracting typical features of APK files, we will try to analyze and enumerate all the features of the APK file as the basis for classifying malicious APK files and clean APK files.
