  • In this paper, we propose a multi-block deep learning structure for improving face recognition rate. The recognition structure of the proposed deep learning consists of three steps: multi-blocking of the input image, multi-block selection by facial feature numerical analysis, and perform deep learning of the selected multi-block. First, the input image is divided into 4 blocks by multi-block. Secondly, in the multi-block selection by feature analysis, the feature values of the quadruple multi-blocks are checked, and only the blocks with many features are selected. The third step is to perform deep learning with the selected multi-block, and the result is obtained as an efficient block with high feature value by performing recognition on the deep learning model in which the selected multi-block part is learned. To evaluate the performance of the proposed deep learning structure, we used CAS-PEAL face database. Experimental results show that the proposed multi-block deep learning structure shows 2.3% higher face recognition rate than the existing deep learning structure.

  • With the recent developments in computer technology, there has been an increasing interest in the field of machine learning. This also has led to a significant increase in real business cases of machine learning theory in various sectors. In finance, it has been a major challenge to predict the future value of financial products. Since the 1980s, the finance industry has relied on technical and fundamental analysis for this prediction. For future value prediction models using machine learning, model design is of paramount importance to respond to market variables. Therefore, this paper quantitatively predicts the stock price movements of individual stocks listed on the KOSPI market using machine learning techniques; specifically, the reinforcement learning model. The DQN and A2C algorithms proposed by Google Deep Mind in 2013 are used for the reinforcement learning and they are applied to the stock trading strategies. In addition, through experiments, an input value to increase the cumulative profit is selected and its superiority is verified by comparison with comparative algorithms.

  • Purpose: The current Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions, published and disseminated in 2018, involves some difficulties and causes diagnostic conflicts due to its criteria, especially for inexperienced clinicians. The aim of this study was to design a decision system based on machine learning algorithms by using clinical measurements and radiographic images in order to determine and facilitate the staging and grading of periodontitis. Methods: In the first part of this study, machine learning models were created using the Python programming language based on clinical data from 144 individuals who presented to the Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Süleyman Demirel University. In the second part, panoramic radiographic images were processed and classification was carried out with deep learning algorithms. Results: Using clinical data, the accuracy of staging with the tree algorithm reached 97.2%, while the random forest and k-nearest neighbor algorithms reached 98.6% accuracy. The best staging accuracy for processing panoramic radiographic images was provided by a hybrid network model algorithm combining the proposed ResNet50 architecture and the support vector machine algorithm. For this, the images were preprocessed, and high success was obtained, with a classification accuracy of 88.2% for staging. However, in general, it was observed that the radiographic images provided a low level of success, in terms of accuracy, for modeling the grading of periodontitis. Conclusions: The machine learning-based decision system presented herein can facilitate periodontal diagnoses despite its current limitations. Further studies are planned to optimize the algorithm and improve the results.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to propose a fully automatic landmark identification model based on a deep learning algorithm using real clinical data and to verify its accuracy considering inter-examiner variability. Materials and Methods: In total, 950 lateral cephalometric images from Yonsei Dental Hospital were used. Two calibrated examiners manually identified the 13 most important landmarks to set as references. The proposed deep learning model has a 2-step structure-a region of interest machine and a detection machine-each consisting of 8 convolution layers, 5 pooling layers, and 2 fully connected layers. The distance errors of detection between 2 examiners were used as a clinically acceptable range for performance evaluation. Results: The 13 landmarks were automatically detected using the proposed model. Inter-examiner agreement for all landmarks indicated excellent reliability based on the 95% confidence interval. The average clinically acceptable range for all 13 landmarks was 1.24 mm. The mean radial error between the reference values assigned by 1 expert and the proposed model was 1.84 mm, exhibiting a successful detection rate of 36.1%. The A-point, the incisal tip of the maxillary and mandibular incisors, and ANS showed lower mean radial error than the calibrated expert variability. Conclusion: This experiment demonstrated that the proposed deep learning model can perform fully automatic identification of cephalometric landmarks and achieve better results than examiners for some landmarks. It is meaningful to consider between-examiner variability for clinical applicability when evaluating the performance of deep learning methods in cephalometric landmark identification.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of deep neural network model in order to determine whether there is a risk factor for coronary artery disease based on the cardiac variation parameter. The study used unidentifiable 297 data to evaluate the performance of the model. Input data consists of heart rate parameters, which are SDNN (standard deviation of the N-N intervals), PSI (physical stress index), TP (total power), VLF (very low frequency), LF (low frequency), HF (high frequency), RMSSD (root mean square of successive difference) APEN (approximate entropy) and SRD (successive R-R interval difference), the age group and sex. Output data are divided into normal and patient groups, and the patient group consists of those diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia among the various risk factors that can cause coronary artery disease. Based on this, a binary classification model was applied using Deep Neural Network of deep learning techniques to classify normal and patient groups efficiently. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model used in this study, Kernel SVM (support vector machine), one of the classification models in machine learning, was compared and evaluated using same data. The results showed that the accuracy of the proposed deep neural network was train set 91.79% and test set 85.56% and the specificity was 87.04% and the sensitivity was 83.33% from the point of diagnosis. These results suggest that deep learning is more efficient when classifying these medical data because the train set accuracy in the deep neural network was 7.73% higher than the comparative model Kernel SVM.

  • In this paper, the efficiency of five Machine Learning (ML) methods consisting of Deep Learning (DL), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT), and Gradient Tree Booting (GTB) for regression and classification of the Ultimate Load Factor (ULF) of nonlinear inelastic steel frames is compared. For this purpose, a two-story, a six-story, and a twenty-story space frame are considered. An advanced nonlinear inelastic analysis is carried out for the steel frames to generate datasets for the training of the considered ML methods. In each dataset, the input variables are the geometric features of W-sections and the output variable is the ULF of the frame. The comparison between the five ML methods is made in terms of the mean-squared-error (MSE) for the regression models and the accuracy for the classification models, respectively. Moreover, the ULF distribution curve is calculated for each frame and the strength failure probability is estimated. It is found that the GTB method has the best efficiency in both regression and classification of ULF regardless of the number of training samples and the space frames considered.

  • Studies are being conducted regarding falling recognition using sensors on smartphonesto recognize falling in human daily life. These studies use a number of sensors, mostly acceleration sensors, gyro sensors, motion sensors, etc. Falling recognition system processes the values of sensor data by using a falling recognition algorithm and classifies behavior based on thresholds. If the threshold is ambiguous, the accuracy will be reduced. To solve this problem, Deep learning was introduced in the behavioral recognition system. Deep learning is a kind of machine learning technique that computers process and categorize input data rather than processing it by man-made algorithms. Thus, in this paper, we propose a falling recognition application system using deep learning based on smartphones. The proposed system is powered by apps on smartphones. It also consists of three layers and uses DataBase as a Service (DBaaS) to handle big data and address data heterogeneity. The proposed system uses deep learning to recognize the user's behavior, it can expect higher accuracy compared to the system in the general rule base.
