High Redshift Quasar Survey

  • We describe a survey of quasars in the early universe beyond z=5, which is one of the main sciences of the Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS) performed by the Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe (CEOU). We use multi-wavelength archival data such as SDSS, CFHTLS, UKIDSS, and SWIRE, which provide deep images over wide areas sufficient enough for searching high redshift quasars. In addition, we carried out a J-band imaging survey at the United Kingdom InfraRed Telescope (UKIRT) with a depth of ~23 AB and survey area of ~100 $deg^2$, which makes IMS the most suitable survey for finding high redshift quasars at z~7. Also for the quasar candidates at z~5.5, we are conducting observations with the Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN), which are efficient for selecting robust quasar candidate samples in this redshift range. We used various color-color diagrams suitable to the specific redshift ranges, which can reduce the contaminating sources such as M/L/T dwarfs, low redshift galaxies, and instrumental defects.   • In natural dyeing, a number of supplementary methods have been practiced since deep shades of the dyed fabrics are not developed satisfactorily. The methods include using the mordants effectively or subjecting the fabrics to reiterated dyeing processes. In this study, we obtained deep shades in the dyeing of fabrics using Rhusjara ica as the dyestuff and applied chitosan to the fabric specimens in order to diversify the colors. Silk fibers and PET(polyethylene terephthalate) fibers were pretreated using chitosan, and subsequently dyed using different types of mordants. As the mordanting agents, Al, Sn, and Fe were employed. Various shades have been resulted in since the interactions of the mordants are different toward the silk fibers and PET fibers. In this study, we investigated the effect of the chitosan treatment along with the change of the mordanting agents on the color change for the silk and PET fibers.

Design Trends of Domestic and Foreign Fashion Socks (국내외 패션삭스의 디자인 경향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate domestic and foreign fashion sock design trends and suggest a proposal for competitive fashion sock design developments. The methods of this study are undertaken by literature review and design trend analysis. For the design trend analysis, in the case of domestic cases, 209 pictures from 7 brands, and in the case of foreign cases, 870 pictures from 10 brands are being chosen. In terms of analysis criteria, the colors, patterns, lengths and images of both the domestic and foreign socks are being compared. As a result, among the fashion foreign socks, more than 4 colors are the most common, and dark & dark grayish, strong & deep color tones are the most popular. Also, the stylized, geometrical patterns, and casual, cute and unique images are generally used. In the case of domestic fashion socks, 2 colors are the most common with vivid, strong & deep color tones as the most popular. Furthermore the patterns are limited to geometric patterns, and the images of socks are inclined to be too casual. To enhance the competitiveness of Korean sock designs, the variety of patterns and images are essential.

Deep Blue Fluorescent Host Materials Based on a Novel Spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] Core Structure with Side Aromatic Wings

  • Deep blue fluorescent host materials based on a novel spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] core structure with side aromatic wings in the 5- and 9-positions, namely, 5,9-di(naphthalen-2-yl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (DN-SBFF), 5,9-bis(4-t-butylphenyl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (BP-SBFF), and 5,9-bis(4-fluorophenyl)spiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene] (FP-SBFF), were designed and successfully prepared using the Suzuki reaction. The physical properties of these materials and their EL characteristics as blue host materials doped with N,N,N',N'-tetraphenylspiro[benzo[c]fluorene-7,9'-fluorene]-5,9-diamine (TPA-SBFF) were investigated. The device used comprised ITO/N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis[4-(phenyl-m-tolyl-amino)phenyl]-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (DNTPD)/N,N'-di(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenylbenzidine (NPB)/(FP-SBFF):dopant x%/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum ($Alq_3$)/LiF. The device obtained using FP-SBFF doped with TPA-SBFF showed high color purity (0.13, 0.18) and an efficiency of 6.61 cd/A at 7 V.

  • 'Blue Edge' (Hosta minor) was induced by ethyle methane sulfonate (EMS) to obtain mutants. Among induced leaf variegated hosta plants, some with deep-green color pattern on the edge of the leaves was selected. They were cultivated via vegetative propagation. Assessment of botanical characteristics was conducted for three years since 2003. The major characteristic of these cultivars is that they maintain their deep-green color on the edge of the leaves all year round. These cultivars are useful as materials for pot plant or as ground cover plant.

  • Recent development of deep learning techniques for image generation has led to straightforward generation of sophisticated deepfakes. However, as a result, privacy violations through deepfakes has also became increased. To solve this issue, a number of techniques for deepfake detection have been proposed, which are mainly focused on RGB channel-based analysis. Although existing studies have suggested the effectiveness of other color model-based analysis (i.e., Grayscale), their effectiveness has not been quantitatively validated yet. Thus, in this paper, we compare the effectiveness of Grayscale channel-based analysis with RGB channel-based analysis in deepfake detection. Based on the selected CNN-based models and deepfake datasets, we measured the performance of each color model-based analysis in terms of accuracy and time. The evaluation results confirmed that Grayscale channel-based analysis performs better than RGB-channel analysis in several cases.

Development of Color Recognition Algorithm for Traffic Lights using Deep Learning Data (딥러닝 데이터 활용한 신호등 색 인식 알고리즘 개발)

  • The vehicle motion in urban environment is determined by surrounding traffic flow, which cause understanding the flow to be a factor that dominantly affects the motion planning of the vehicle. The traffic flow in this urban environment is accessed using various urban infrastructure information. This paper represents a color recognition algorithm for traffic lights to perceive traffic condition which is a main information among various urban infrastructure information. Deep learning based vision open source realizes positions of traffic lights around the host vehicle. The data are processed to input data based on whether it exists on the route of ego vehicle. The colors of traffic lights are estimated through pixel values from the camera image. The proposed algorithm is validated in intersection situations with traffic lights on the test track. The results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees precise recognition on traffic lights associated with the ego vehicle path in urban intersection scenarios.

  • The efficiency stabilization and the color coordinates in blue organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) with a double emitting layer (DEL) consisting of 4,4'-Bis(carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl (CBP) and 4,4'-Bis(2,2-diphenyl-ethen-1-yl)diphenyl were investigated. The efficiency of the OLEDs with a DEL did not significantly change with an increase in current density. The Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinates of the OLEDs with a DEL 11 V were (0.150, 0.137), indicative of a deep blue color.

  • These studies were carried out to develop native Calanthe in Korea. Calanthe native to southern islands in Korea has beautiful flowers with various color and sweet fragrance, and it has been reported to have very good ornamental value. According to the morphological characteristics of leaves and flower color, 57 horticultural lines of Calanthe collected in natural crossing group were investigated. And the selected orchid was given a name of horticultural cultivar to ‘Narai’. In its color of flower, sepal was deep purplish red, petal was yellow and lip was white. And also, ‘Narai’ had strong fragrance and shape of blooming was flat-blooming type.
