Effect of interleukin-2 on antitumor response against intraperitoneal RD-995 tumor in mice (마우스에서 Interleukin-2가 RD-995 종양세포에 미치는 항암효과)

  • Recombinant interleukin-2(IL-2) has demonstrated as an antineoplastic agent in mice and human, but the relatively low response rates observed in clinical trials. Therefore, the present study was undertaken in order to evaluate therapeutic activities of IL-2 for the establishment of therapeutic applications. At the onset of the experiment, normal C3H/HeN mice were injected with 5$\times$10$\^$6/ RD-995 tumor cells, murine ultraviolet radiation-induced fibrosarcoma, intraperitoneally. Beginning on day 6, experimental groups were treated with a 5-day course of IL-2(subcutaneous injection of 30,000 IU every 12 hours for 5 days). The result of this experiment revealed that body weight gradually decreased from 20th day in control mice. Subcutaneous IL-2 therapy prevented partially decrease body weight, and prolonged survival of mice compared with control group.

Effect of Regular Exercise during Recovery Period Following Steroid Treatment on the Atrophied Type II Muscles Induced by Steroid in Young Rats (스테로이드 치료 후 회복기의 규칙적인 운동이 어린 쥐의 스테로이드 유발성 위축 Type II 근육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine whether low intensity regular exercise following dexamethasone treatment could attenuate steroid-induced muscle atrophy. Method: 36 Wistar-rats(90-110g) were divided into six groups: control group(C), dexamethasone treatment group(D), sedentary group after normal sedentary period(C+S), sedentary group after dexamethasone treatment period(D+S), exercise group after normal sedentary period(C+E), and excercise group after dexamethasone treatment period(D+E). D, D+S, and D+E groups received dexamethasone injection(5mg/Kg) for seven days whereas C, C+S, and C+E groups received normal saline injection. Both C+E and D+E groups ran on a treadmill for 60 minutes/day(20minutes/4hours) at 15m/min and a 10$^{\circ}$grade for seven recovery days. Result: Post-weight(body weight before muscle dissection) of D group significantly decreased by 16.03%, and that of D+E group significantly increased by 15.51% compared with pre-weight(body weight before steroid treatment). TypeII muscle(plantaris and gastrocnemius) weights of D group were significantly lower than those of C group. Myofibrillar protein contents of typeII muscles of D group tended to decrease comparing with C group. In D+E groups, body weights and relative weights of typeII muscles(muscle weight(mg)/post-weight(g)) tended to increase comparing with D+S group. Conclusion: It is suggested that steroid- induced muscle atrophy can be ameliorated through low intensity regular exercise after dexamethasone treatment.

Feeding Habits of Larva and Juvenile of the Korean Bullhead, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco (Richardson) (동자재 자.치어의 섭식 습성)

  • The larvae of the Korean bullhead, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco were satiated with the food uptake equivalent to 13% of its body weight and required 2.5, 11 and 15 hrs to digest 50, 90 and 100% of the consumed food. The juveniles were satiated with food equivalent to 0.65% of its body weight and required 9 and 19 hrs to digest 50 and 90% of the consumer. Apparently, daily food intake perceptibly decrease with the larvae grew to juvenile stage. Both larvae (8.3-14.0mm TL) and juvenile (41.1-65.7mm TL) tend to feed frequently than to get satiated once a day and appeared to be nocturnal feeders.

Effect of dietary protein and fiber on the lead and protein metabolism in lead poisoning rats (식이 단백질 및 섬유질이 납중독 흰쥐의 단백질과 납대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study wa performed to investigate the effects of dietary protein and fiber on the lead and protein metabolism in lead poisoning rats. Seventy male rats of Sprague-Dawley strain weighing 172$\pm$2g were blocked into 14 gropus according to body weight. Protein(casein) was given at levels of 15 or 40%, and fibers(pectin, cellulose and CMC) were given at levels of 0, 4 or 10%. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Food intake, weight gain and food efficiency ratio(FER) in groups fed high protein diets were higher than those in low protein groups. Liver weight in groups fed no dietary fiber was higher than that of animals fed fiber. Kidney and femur weights were greater in high protein groups. Tibia and femur lengths, and tibia weight were not significantly different among groups. 2. Hemoglobin content and hematocrit values showed no significant differance with dietary factors. 3. Total protein contents of serum and liver showed no significant difference, but tended to increase with increasing dietary protein level. Both daily urinary and fecal nitrogen excretions in high protein groups were higher than those in low protein groups. Especially daily fecal nitrogen excretions in high dietary fiber groups were significantly high. Body nitrogen absorption rate was the highest in animals fed no fiber. 4. Pb levels in blood, liver, kidney and bone tended to decrease with high dietary protein and fiber levels. Especially Pb level of kidney was high in all groups. Daily urinary Pb excretion showed no significant difference with dietary factors, but fecal Pb excretion increased significantly in high protein and fiber groups.

  • Clinical studies were done on 72 peoples (1 male, 71 females) who were treated with the electric acupuncture therapy to decrease body weight and abdominal length in the Yong oriental medicine clinic from march 1, 1994 to June 30, 1995. The result were obtained as follows : 1. Total judgement of efficacy: good(18.0%) moderate(31.0%) unchanged(32.0%) 2. Degree of average body weight loss during 1 week: 0-0.9Kg(22.2%) 1-1.9Kg(20.8%) 2-2.9Kg(16.6%). 3. Degree of average abdominal length decreased during electric acupuncture treatment : 1-1.9cm (40.2%) 2-2.9cm(22.2%) 3-3.9cm(9.7%)

  • This paper in the feeding Selenium added high fat diet, have an aim to find an effect of the white rat'food intake, body weight and level of serum lipid. This experimentations com to the conclusion that Se. added high fat diets, to say again, soybean oil added high fat diets that expecially is contained unsaturated high fatty acid, improve a general diet-utility factor, and decrease a body weight and coronary heart desease factor of the serum have an effect to prevent them from C H D by increasing anti - arterioscleroticfactor.

Effect of Dietary Taurine Supplementation on Plasma and Liver Lipid Levels in Rats Fed a Cholesterol-Free Diet (식이내의 타우린 보강이 무콜레스테롤 식이를 섭취하는 흰쥐의 혈액과 간의 지질수준에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of dietary taurine supplementation on plasma and hepatic lipid concentrations were evaluated in rats fed one of the following two cholesterol-free diets for 5 weeks ; a control diet(CD : cholesterol -free and taurine -fee diet) and a taurine supplemented diet(TSD : CD + 1.5% taurine). There were no significant differences in liver weight and cummulative body weight gains between the groups at the end of the experimental period .However, the liver weight to body weight ratio was significantly decreased (p<0.05) by dietary taurine supplementation. Plasma concentrations of total cholesterol , LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly reduced(37%, 26% and 53% respectively) in rats fed TSD compared to those fed CD. There were no significant differences in plasma free fatty acid and total phospolipid levels between the two groups. Feeding TSD to the rats significantly reduced their hepatic triglyceride concentration(43% decrease , p<0.001) but elevated their hepatic free fatty acid level(77% increase, p<0.001) as compared to the control rats. Liver cholesterol concentration was not significantly influenced by the dietary taurine supplementation. Dietary taurine supplementation significantly reduced the percentage of phosphatidylcholine and phosp-atidylethanolamine, but elevated the prospholipids in the liver homogenates as compared to the values for the CD rats. These results suggest the possible roles of taurine as a hypochlesterolmic and hypotriglyceride agent in rats fed a cholesterol-free diets.

  • This present study was carried out to investigate the effect of Saengjingamrotang and Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis in streptozotocin induced hyperglycemic rats. Body weigh, serum levels of glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, triglyceride and urine levels of volume, glucose, protein were measured in streptozotocin induced hyperglycemic rats orally receiving extracts of Sanengjingamrotang and Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis for 4 days. The results were as follows: 1. The change of body weight, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration has the notable increase, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration has no notable change, as compared to control group. 2. The change of the content on serum glucose, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang conctntration have notable decrease, as compared to control group. 3. The change of the content on serum insulin, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration has the notable increase, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration has no notable change, as compared to control group. 4. The change of the content on serum total cholesterol, the medication group of saengjingamrotang concentration and the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration have notable decrease, as compared to control group. 5. The change of the content on serum triglyceride, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration and the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis Concentration have notable decrease, as compared to control group. 6. The change of urine volume, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration has the notable decrease, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration has no notable change, as compared to control group. 7. The change of the content on urine glucose, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration and the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration have notable decrease, as compared to control group. 8. The Change of the content of serum protein, the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration and the medication group of Saengjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration have notable decrease, s compared to control group. 9. The change of body weight, serum insulin and urine volume, the medication group of saenfjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis concentration has more notable change than the medication group of Saengjingamrotang concentration, as compared to control group. According to above mentioned results, Saengjingamrotang and Saenfjingamrotang plus Radix Trichosanthis have the effect of decreased blood sugar, serum lipid levels and urine volume, protein, glucose in streptozotocin induced hyperglycemic rats, and so they were expected to be appled to the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

The effect of Park Golf exercise on body composition and sleep of the elderly (파크골프운동이 노인의 신체구성 및 수면에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is the investigation of park golf exercise impact on body composition and sleep. Measuring body composition was using multi-frequency impedance meter (Inbody720) for the Weight,% Body Fat, BMI, WHR. And there was using Oh,jinju(1998) as a measurement tool for sleep. Looking at changes in body composition, In the experimental groups, before the experiment body weight $60.56{\pm}6.25kg$, BMI $25.40{\pm}12.4kg/m^2$, %BodyFat $36.46{\pm}4.67%$, WHR $0.93{\pm}0.17$, after 12weeks, weight $58.3{\pm}7.16kg$, BMI $24.28{\pm}2.32kg/m^2$, %BodyFat $35.1{\pm}3.02%$, WHR $0.92{\pm}0.16$ as a significant decrease(p <.05) have appeared. After conducting an exercise program, experimental sleep score increased from 42.03 to 47.43 (increased 5.37) and control group increased from 42.48 to 43.4(increased 0.94). Between the two groups were statistically significant differences. In this study, performed 12weeks of the park golf exercise has a positive effect on body composition and sleep of the elderly.

Effect of Banhabakchulchunma-tang on the Hepatic, Splenic and Cardiac Toxicity induced by Doxorubicin (반하백출천마탕(半夏白朮天麻湯)이 Doxorubicin에 의해 유발(誘發)된 독성(毒性)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Object : The effect of Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts on the hepatic, splenic and cardiac toxicity induced by Doxorubicin administration(Three injection protocol) were monitored using male ICR mice. Methods : The changes of body weight, clinical signs, necropsy findings and organ weights of liver, spleen and heart were observed with blood GOT and GPT levels. Results : 1. Decrease of body weight and The degrees of anorexia, ataxia and dehydration after Doxorubicin treatment were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. 2. Increase of absolute and relative liver and heart weight observed in Doxorubicin treatment group were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. In addition, the degrees of liver congestion necrotic spot and the degrees of heart congestion enlargement were dose-dependently decreased after Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups compared to that of doxorubicin treatment group. It is also demonstrated that elevated serum GOT and GPT levels in doxorubicin treatment group were significantly decreased in Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups. 3. Decrease of absolute and relative spleen weight observed in doxorubicin treatment group were dose-dependently inhibited by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. In addition, the degrees of splenic atrophy were significantly and dose-dependently decreased after Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts dosing groups compared to that of doxorubicin treatment group. Conclusion : the toxicity of doxorubicin treatment(decrease of body weights, clinical signs such as anorexia, ataxia and dehydration, changes of organ weights of liver, spleen and heart, elevation of serum GOT and GPT levels) was inhibited and/or prevented by Banhabakchulchunma-tang extracts. According to these results, it is considered that Banhabakchulchunma-tang has some preventive effect against to doxorubicin induced toxicity.
