In this paper, it is tried to combine the decomposition method and econometric analysis for the extension of the decomposition method. Since two approaches approach the energy efficiency problem in the different perspectives, it is believed that it is hard to reconcile the results of two approaches. In the results of energy intensity effect analysis with the econometric method, it is found that the increase in the energy price results in the improvement of energy intensity effect. In enconometric analysis of energy efficiency, the coefficient of a time trend measured as a proxy of energy efficiency is significant and has a negative effect on the energy consumption. This finding implies the energy efficiency improves very slowly over time. In addition, the directions of energy efficiency improvement in the decomposition method are consistent with those in the econometric analysis in four industries. This finding indicates that two methods may be in complementary cooperation for the analysis of energy efficiency. Therefore, it is needed the efforts to seek the complementarity between two methods for the enhancement of academic and policy implications.

The electrochemical oxidation process has been widely studied in the field of wastewater treatment for the decomposition of organic materials through oxidation using ·OH generated on the anode. Pt anode electrodes with high durability and long-term operability have a low oxygen evolution potential, making them unsuitable for electrochemical oxidation processes. Therefore, to apply Pt electrodes that are suitable for long-term operation and large-scale processes, it is necessary to develop a new method for improving the decomposition rate of organic materials. This study introduces a method to improve the decomposition rate of organic materials when using a Pt anode electrode in the electrochemical oxidation process for the treatment of organic decontamination liquid waste. Electrochemical decomposition tests were performed using sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) as a representative organic material and a Pt mesh as the anode electrode. Y2O3 particles were introduced into the electrolytic cell to improve the decomposition rate. The decomposition rate significantly improved from 21% to 99%, and the current efficiency also improved. These results can be applied to the electrochemical oxidation process without additional system modification to enhance the decomposition rate and current efficiency.
Pyrolysis/gasification technology utilizes an energy conversion technique from various waste resources, such as biomass, solid waste, sewage sludge, and etc. to generating a syngas (synthesis gas). However, one of the major problems for the pyrolysis gasification is the presence of tar in the product gas. The tar produced might cause damages and operating problems on the facility. In this study, a gliding arc plasma reformer was developed to solve the previously acknowledged issues. An experiment was conducted using surrogate benzene and naphthalene, which are generated during the pyrolysis and/or gasification, as the representative tar substance. To identify the characteristics of the influential parameters of tar decomposition, tests were performed on the steam feed amount (steam/carbon ratio), input discharge power (specific energy input, SEI), total feed gas amount and the input tar concentration. In benzene, the optimal operating conditions of the gliding arc plasma 2 in steam to carbon (S/C) ratio, 0.98 $kWh/m^3$ in SEI, 14 L/min in total gas feed rate and 3.6% in benzene concentration. In naphthalene, 2.5 in S/C ratio, 1 $kWh/m^3$ in SEI, 18.4 L/min in total gas feed rate and 1% in naphthalene concentration. The benzene decomposition efficiency was 95%, and the energy efficiency was 120 g/kWh. The naphthalene decomposition efficiency was 79%, and the energy yield was 68 g/kWh.

The electrical and chemical properties of the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) process for the benzene removal were investigated. The benzene removal was initiated with the applied voltage higher than the discharge onset value. The removal efficiency over 95 % was obtained at approximately 1.6 kJ lite $r^{r-1}$ of the electrical energy density. The increase of the inlet concentration decreased the removal efficiency. However, the benzene decomposition rate increased with the inlet concentration . While the increase of the gas retention time enhanced the removal efficiency, the decomposition rate decreased. Identification of the optimum condition between the decomposition rate and the removal efficiency is required for field applications of the DBD process.s.
In this experiment, we made the plasma reactor which adhere needle electrode in order to treat safely an NOx which was included in the gas. Also we experimently investigated characteristics of equipment and inspected efficiency. As a reaction gas, by using mixture gas of $NO/N_2$ and $N_2/O_2$, we setted up initial NO concentration and gas flow rate was set at 2 ${\iota}$/min. As a reaction characteristics of NOx, when discharge input power was high, NO concentration decreased and when the oxygen concentration increased, the NO decomposition was easy and decomposition energy efficiency was high. Also in case that NO concentration increased, NO decomposition energy efficiency was high but decomposition rate was low. The characteristics of ozone, when discharge input power was high, ozone increased and when $NO/N_2$ concentration increased, the ozone decreased.
Since improved thermal efficiency reduces capacity requirements and energy costs, electricity producers often treat thermal efficiency as a measure of management or economic performance. The conventional measure of the thermal efficiency of a fossil-fuel generation system is the ratio of total electricity generation to the simple sum of energy inputs. As a refined approach, we present a novel thermal efficiency measure using the concept of the Divisia index number. Application of this approach to the Korean power sector shows improvement of thermal efficiency of 1.1% per year during 1970-1998. This is higher than the 0.9% improvement per year given by the conventional method. The difference is attributable to the effect of fuel substitution. In the Divisia decomposition context, we also show the limitations of the popular $T{\ddot{o}}rnqvist$ index formula and the superiority of the Sato-Vartia formula.
It is recognized that tetrafluoromethane ($CF_4$) has a great influence on global warming. The $CF_4$ is known to have a large impact on climate change due to its large global warming index. In this study, a waterjet plasma scrubber (WPS) was designed and manufactured for the $CF_4$ decomposition. The WPS is a novel technology which is combined a gliding arc plasma and water injection at the center of the plasma discharge. This can give an innovative way for $CF_4$ decomposition by achieving larger plasma columnand generating OH radicals. A performance analysis was achieved for the design factors such as waterjet flow rate, total gas flow rate, consumption electric power, and electrode gap. The highest $CF_4$ decomposition and energy efficiencies were 64.8% and 6.43 g/kWh, respectively; Optimal operating conditions were 20 mL/min of waterjet flow rate, 200 L/min total gas flow rate, 5.3 kW consumption electric power, and 4.4 mm electrode gap. As for the 2 stage reactor of the WPS, the $CF_4$ decomposition efficiency improved as the 85.3% while the energy efficiency decreased as the 5.57 g/kWh.

In order to improve energy efficiency in the dilute trichloroethylene removal using the nonthermal plasma process, the barrier discharge treatment combined with manganese dioxide was experimentally studied. Reaction kinetics in this process was studied on the basis of final byproducts distribution. Decomposition efficiency was improved to about 99% at the specific energy 40J/L with passing through manganese dioxide. C=C $\pi$ bond cleavage in TCE gave DCAC (single bond, C-C) through oxidation reaction during the barrier discharge plasma treatment. Those DCAC were broken easily in the subsequent catalytic reaction due to the weak bonding energy about 3 ~ 4 eV compared with the double bonding energy in TCE molecules. Oxidation byproducts of DCAC and TCAA from TCE decomposition are generated from the barrier discharge plasma treatment and catalytic surface chemical reaction, respectively. Complete oxidation of TCE into $CO_X$ is required to about 400J/L.

Volatile organic compounds emitted to the atmosphere can cause adverse effects on human health and participate in photochemical smog formation reactions. The destruction of a series of VOCs has been carried out by non-thermal plasma in other researches. And the characteristic of non-thermal plasma was operated at atmospheric pressure and low temperature. A new type non-thermal plasma reactor was investigated combined Glidarc plasma with water jet in this research. Also, it was found that the water-jet had an significant effect on the toluene removal efficiency. But too much water content does not favor toluene decomposition by decreasing of reaction temperature. The input toluene concentration, gas flow rate, water flow rate and specific energy input were used as experiment variables. The toluene removal efficiency, energy efficiency and specific energy input were 75.3%, 146.6 g/kWh and $1.12kWh/m^3$ at a water flow rate of 100 mL/min.

When photovoltaic module is used for a long time, its performance decreases due to several reasons. In this paper, we focus on the possibilities mainly contributing to the degraded efficiency of the polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules. The analysis is based on the modules that have been used for 15 years. These are two main reasons that cause the efficiency degradation, the corrosion and thermal decomposition. The former phenomenon of electrode is mainly due to the moisture from damaged back sheet in some module. However the other reason of the degraded efficiency comes from the thermal decomposition, which can not be observed from the outside but only by experiment. In this study, the comparison between the efficiency of normal modules and degradation modules is presented. Module having degraded cell was seen to cause increase of series resistance by about 80%, in comparison to normal samples efficiency which reduce by about 20%. This study shows that the effects of series resistances on module performance are critical. These effects must be understood and taken into consideration when analyzing performance degradation.
