  • Catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide was investigated experimentally. Two noble metal catalyst (Pt, Ir) were chosen to decompose nitrous oxide. Each catalyst was tested with different chamber pressure and preheating temperature. Ir decomposed $N_2O$ at lower temperature ($230^{\circ}C$) and suitable for $N_2O$ decomposition. In addition, the minimum required preheating temperature decreased as the chamber pressure increased. However, deactivation of Ir catalyst was observed during the experiments.

  • DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma in air is well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and is more recently being applied to aftertreatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). Aim of this work is to determine design and operating parameters of a hybrid air cleaning system. DBD and ESP(Electrostatic Precipitator) are used as nano particle charger and collector, respectively. Pelletized MnO$_2$ catalyst or activated carbon is used fer ozone decomposition or adsorption material. AC voltage of 7~10 KV(rms) and 60 Hz is used as DBD plasma source. DC - 8 KV is applied to the ESP for particle collection. The overall particle collection efficiency for the hybrid system is over 85 % under 0.64 m/s face velocity. Ozone decomposition efficiency with pelletized MnO$_2$ catalyst or activated carbon packed bed is over 90 % when the face velocity is under 0.4 m/s in dry air.

  • The NO oxidation process has been applied to improve a removal efficiency of NO included in exhaust gas. In this study, to produce a dry oxidant for the NO oxidation process, the catalytic H2O2 decomposition method was proposed. A variety of the heterogeneous solid-acidic Mn-based catalysts were prepared for the catalytic H2O2 decomposition and the effect of their physico-chemical properties on the catalytic H2O2 decomposition were investigated. The results of this study showed that the acidic sites of the Mn-based catalysts has an influence on the catalytic H2O2 decomposition. The Mn-based catalyst having the abundant acidic sites within the wide temperature range in NH3-TPD shows the best performance for the catalytic H2O2 decomposition. Therefore, the NO oxidation efficiency, using the dry oxidant produced by the H2O2 decomposition over the Mn-based catalyst having the abundant acidic properties under the wide temperature range, was higher than the others. As a remarkable result, the best performances in the catalytic H2O2 decomposition and NO oxidation was shown when the Mn-based Fe2O3 support catalyst containing K component was used for the catalytic H2O2 decomposition.

  • Ammonia is either a crucial resource of fertilizer production for solving the food problem of mankind or an important energy source as both an eco-friendly hydrogen carrier and a carbon-free fuel. Therefore, nowadays ammonia synthesis and decomposition become promising. Then, a catalyst is required to effectively perform the ammonia synthesis and decomposition. In order to design high-performing as well as cheap novel catalysts for ammonia synthesis and decomposition, it is necessary to test huge amount of catalyst candidates, but it is inevitably time-consuming and expensive to search and analyze using only traditional approaches. Recently, new methods using machine learning which is one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution that can quickly and accurately search high-performance catalysts has been emerging. In this paper, we investigate reaction mechanisms of ammonia synthesis and decomposition, and we described recent research and prospects of machine learning-driven methods that can efficiently find high-performing and economical catalysts for ammonia synthesis and decomposition.

  • High purity carbon nano fibers/tubes (CNF/Ts) which contain 97% pure graphitic carbon are prepared by a new catalytic method. These carbon nano fibers/tubes are ready to use without any further purification. The striking feature of this method is the production of carbon nano fibers/tubes of narrow distribution range. The developed catalytic method also produces pure hydrogen. An additional advantage of this catalytic method is that catalyst can be reused without reactivation. Ni:Cu catalyst system is embodied into SCHOTT-DURAN filter disc of large pore size (40-100 mm). Due to the production of hydrogen in the reaction catalyst stability is enhanced and deactivation process is considerably slowed down.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of a Cu-supported honeycomb catalyst as a catalyst for decomposition of a low toxic liquid propellant based on ammonium dinitramide (ADN). A mixture of copper, lanthanum, and alumina was supported on the honeycomb support by wash coating to prepare a Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst. We elucidated that the effect of metal loading on the physicochemical properties of Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst and catalytic performance in decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant. As the number of wash coatings increased, the amount of active metal Cu was increased to 4.1 wt%. The BET surface area of the Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst was in the range of 3.1~4.1 ㎡/g. The micropores were hardly present in Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalysts, however, the mesopores and macropores were well developed. The Cu (2.7 wt%)-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst exhibited the highest activity in the decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant, which is attributed to the largest surface area, the largest pore volume, and the well-developed mesopores and macropores.

  • This paper proposed the effective treatment method for organic substances using the barrier discharge plasma process and catalytic chemical reaction followed from ozone decomposition. The decomposition by the plasma process of organic substances such as trichloroethylene, methyl alcohol, acetone, and dichloromethane carried out, and ozone is generated effectively at the same time. By passing through catalysts, ozone easily decomposed and further decomposed organic substances. And, 2-dimensional distribution of ozone using the optical measurement method is performed to identify the catalytic surface chemical reaction. In addition, CO is easily oxidized into $CO_2$ by this chemical reaction, which might be induced oxygen atom radicals formed at the surface of catalyst from ozone decomposition.

  • In this study, the air pollutant removal such as sulfur oxides was studied. A combination of the plasma discharge in the reactor by the reaction surface discharge reactor Calcium hydroxides catalytic reactor and air pollutants, hazardous gas SOx, changes in gas concentration, change in frequency, the thickness of the electrode, kinds of electrodes and the addition of simulated composite catalyst composed of a variety of gases, including decomposition experiments were performed by varying the process parameters. The experimental results showed the removal efficiency of 98% in the decomposition of sulfur oxides removal experiment when Calcium hydroxides catalysts and the tungsten(W) electrodes were used. It was increased 3% more than if you do not have the catalytic. If added to methane gas was added the removal efficiency increased decomposition.

  • Catalytic activities of $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst were investigated under reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, catalyst size, inlet concentration and space velocity. A 1,2-dichlorobenzene(1,2-DCB) concentrations were measured in front and after of the heated $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalyst bed, and conversion efficiency of 1,2-DCB was determined from it's concentration difference. The conversion of 1,2-DCB using a pellet type catalyst in the bench-scale reactor was lower than that with the powder type used in the micro flow-scale reactor. However, when the pellet size was halved, the conversion was similar to that with the powder type catalyst. The highest conversion was shown with an inlet concentration of 100 ppmv, but when the concentration was higher or lower than 100 ppmv, the conversion was found to decrease. Complete conversion was obtained when the GHSV was maintained at below 10,000 $h^{-1}$, even at the relatively low temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. Water vapor inhibited the conversion of 1,2-DCB, which was suspected to be due to the competitive adsorption between the reactant and water for active sites.

  • This study was performed to obtain high conversion efficiency of $C_7H_8$ using non-thermal plasma and metal-supported catalyst. Adsorption-desorption characteristics of toluene was performed using 4A type (Zeolite) filled in a concentration reactor. Through this test, it was found that the concentration reactor has 0.020 g/g of adsorption capacity (at ambient temperature and pressure) and 3,600 ppm of desorption property at $150^{\circ}C$ (with in 20 min). In case of developed catalyst, toluene decomposition rate of Pd-AO (Pd coated catalyst) was better than Pd/Cu-AO and Pd/Ag-AO (Pd/Ag composite metal catalyst). Developed non-thermal plasma system was obtained flame amplification effect using injection process of desorbed tolune, and 98% of removal efficiency.
