  • The formation process and the dynamical properties of a large-scale quasi-circular flare ribbon were investigated using the SDO AIA and HMI data along with data from RHESSI and SOT. Within one hour time interval, two subsequent M-class flares were detected from the NOAA 12371 that had a ${\beta}{\gamma}{\delta}$ configuration with one bipolar sunspot group in the east and one unipolar spot in the west embedded in a decayed magnetic field. Earlier M2.0 flare was associated with a coronal loop eruption, and a two-ribbon structure formed within the bipolar sunspot group. On the other hand, the later M2.6 flare was associated with a halo CME, and a quasi-circular ribbon developed encircling the full active region. The observed quasi-circular ribbon was strikingly large in size spanning 650" in north-south and 500" in east-west direction. It showed the well-known sequential brightening in the clockwise direction during the decay phase of the M2.6 flare at the estimated speed of 160.7 km s-1. The quasi-circular ribbon also showed the radial expansion, especially in the southern part. Interestingly, at the time of the later M2.6 flare, the third flare ribbon parallel to the early two-ribbon structure also developed near the unipolar sunspot, then showed a typical separation in pair with the eastern most ribbon of the early two ribbons. The potential field reconstruction based on the PFSS model showed a fan shaped magnetic configuration including fan-like field lines stemming from the unipolar spot and fanning out toward the background decayed field. This large-scale fan-like field overarched full active region, and the footpoints of fan-like field lines were co-spatial with the observed quasi-circular ribbon. From the NLFF magnetic field reconstruction, we confirmed the existence of a twisted flux rope structure in the bipolar spot group before the first M2.0 flare. Hard X-ray emission signatures were detected at the site of twisted flux rope during the pre-flare phase of the M2.0 flare. Based on the analysis of both two-ribbon structure and quasi-circular ribbon, we suggest that a tether-cutting reconnection between sheared arcade overarching the twisted flux rope embedded in a fan-like magnetic field may have triggered the first M2.0 flare, then secondary M2.6 flare was introduced by the fan-spine reconnection because of the interaction between the expanding field and the nearby quasi-null and formed the observed large-scale quasi-circular flare ribbon.

  • $AgInS_2$ single crystal thin filmsl was deposited on throughly etched semi-insulator GaAs(100) substrate by the Hot Wall Epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperature were $680^{\circ}C$ and $410^{\circ}C$ respectively, and the thickness of the single crystal thin films is $6{\mu}m$. From the photocurrent spectrum by illumination of perpendicular light on the c-axis of the $AgInS_2$ single crystal thin film, we have found that the values of spin orbit coupling ${\Delta}So$ and the crystal field splitting ${\Delta}Cr$ were 0.0098 eV and 0.15 eV at 10 K, respectively. In order to explore the applicability as a photoconductive cell, we measured the sensitivity ($\gamma$), the ratio of photocurrent to darkcurrent (pc/dc), maximum allowable power dissipation (MAPD), spectral response and response time. The result indicated that the samples annealed in S vapour the photoconductive characteristics are best. Therefore we obtained the sensitivity of 0.98, the value of pc/dc of $1.02{\times}10^6$, the MAPD of 312 mW, and the rise and decay time of 10.4ms and 10.8ms respectively.

  • The code developed using a pressure-based method for unified conservation laws of incompressible/compressible fluids is expanded to handle moving or deforming body boundaries using the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method. An instantaneous pressure field is calculated from a pressure Poisson equation for the whole fluid domain, including the compressible gas region. The polytropic gas is assumed for the compressible fluid so that the energy equation is decoupled. Immersed boundary nodes are identified based on edges crossing body boundaries. The velocity vector is reconstructed at the immersed boundary node using an interpolation along the assigned local normal line. The developed code is validated by comparing the time histories of pressure and wave elevation for sloshing in a rectangular and a membrane-type tank. The validated code is applied to simulate air cushion effects in a rectangular tank under sway motion. Time variations of pressure fields are analyzed in detail as the air pocket pulsates. It is shown that the contraction and expansion of the air pocket dominate the pressure loads on the wall of the tank. The present results are in good agreement with other experimental and computational results for the amplitude and the decay of the pressure oscillations measured at the pressure gauges.

  • In order to establish and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to ILTV, field virus strain of ILTV was propagated in chorioallantoic membrane of the embryonated eggs. purified and used as antigen. The antisera selected from the field samples and immunized chickens based on serum neutralization test were used as the standard positive and negative sera in all tests. It was found that optimal antigen concentration was $2{\mu}g$ of protein per well and a 1 : 100 dilution of standard serum showed low background optical density with negative serum and high P/N values of positive sera. A 1 : 500 dilution of the rabbit anti-chicken IgG peroxidase conjugate produced a high P/N values and thirty minutes was chosen as suitable time to read the optical density of the enzyme substrate reaction and optical density was consistent during the 16 hours after stopper was treated. When coated antigen was kept on microplate for varying time up to 16 hours at $4^{\circ}C$ or $37^{\circ}C,$ no significant difference was observed between the treatment. The coated antigen could be kept without change of antigenicity for at least one month at $-70^{\circ}C,\; -20^{\circ}C,\; 4^{\circ}C$ and room temperature. When blocking buffer contanining bovine serum albumin was mixed directly with conjugate and serum at 10% level induced higher P/N values compared to blocking antigen coated microplate with the same blocking buffer. The coefficience of correlation between ELISA and SN test was 0.577. When antibody response of chickens, vaccinated with ILTV, was examined by ELISA and SN test, antibody rising and decay pattern between the two test was similar until 11 weeks of age. However 12 weeks onward antibody titer checked on by SN test was slightly lower than that tested by ELISA.

  • In this study, carrot juice was treated with high voltage pulsed electric fields (PEF) and the changes in its physical and chemical properties during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The sterility fur bacteria, yeast and mold in carrot juice increased with increasing electric field strength and treatment temperature. While yeast and mold were completely inactivated at 65kV/cm with a treatment time of $200{\mu}s$ in a continuous PEF treatment system, bacteria were reduced by four log cycles. The results also showed that square wave pulse treatment was more effective for inactivating microorganisms than exponential decay pulse, and this effect was more apparent for carrot juice of lower pH. Although we observed significant changes in physical and chemical properties such as soluble solid content, pH, acidity, color, and carotene retention when the PEF treated samples were stored at the ambient temperature $(20^{\circ}C)$, no significant physical and chemical changes were found at the cold storage temperature $(4^{\circ}C)$ during 28 days of storage. The results indicate that the PEF treated carrot juice is appropriate for commercial refrigerated storage.

  • Clubroot disease of curcifer crops caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae had been first reported in 1928 in Korea, and maintained mild occurrence until 1980s. Since 1990s the disease has become severe in alpine areas of Kyonggi and Kangwon, gradually spread to plain fields throughout the country, and remains as the great-est limiting factor for its production. Researches on the disease has begun in late 1990s after experiencing severe epidemics. Survey of occurrence and etiological studies have been carried out, particularly, on the pathogen physiology, race identification, quantification of soil pathogen population, and host spectrum of the pathogen. Ecology of gall formation and its decay, yield loss assessment associated with time of infection, and relationships between crop rotation and the disease incidence was also studied during late 1990s. In studies of its control, more than 200 crucifer cultivars were evaluated for their resistance to the disease. Lime applica-tion to field soil was also attempted to reduce the disease incidence. Resistant radish and welsh onion were recommended as rotation crops with crucifers after 3-year field experiments. However, so for, most studies on clubroot disease in Korea have been focused on chemical control. Two fungicides, fluazinam and flusulfamide, were selected and extensively studied on their application technologies and combination effects with lime application or other soil treatment. To develop environmentally-friendly control methods, solar-disinfection of soil, phosphoric acid as a nontoxic compound, and root-parasiting endophytes as biocontrol agents were examined for their effects on the disease in fields. In the future, more researches are needed to be done on development of resistant varieties effective to several races of the pathogen, establishment of economically-sound crop rotation system, and improvement of soil-disinfection technique applicable to Korean field condi-tion, and development of methodology of pretreatment of fungicides onto seeds and seedbeds.

  • When livestock facilities in Korea have been changed larger and denser, rearing conditions have been getting worse and the productivity of animal production have been decreased. Especially in the cold season, the minimized ventilation has generally been operated to save energy cost in Korea resulting in very poor environmental condition and high mortality. While the stability, suitability, and uniformity of the rearing condition are the most important for high productivity, the ventilation configuration is the most important to improve the rearing condition seasonally. But, it is so difficult to analyze the internal air flow and the environmental factors by conducting only field experiment because the weather condition is very unpredictable and unstable as well as the structural specification can not be easily changed by the researchers considering cost and labor. Accordingly, an aerodynamic computer simulation was adopted to this study to overcome the weakness of conducting field experiment and study the aerodynamic itself. It has been supposed that the airflow is the main mechanism of heat, mass, and momentum transfers. To make the simulation model accurately and actually, simplified pig models were also developed. The accuracy of the CFD simulation model was enhanced by 4.4 % of errors compared with the data collected from field experiments. In this paper, using the verified CFD model, the CFD computed internal rearing condition of the mechanically ventilated pig house were analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Later, this developed model will be computed time-dependently to effectively analyze the seasonal ventilation efficiency more practically and extensively with tracer gas decay theory.

  • Currently GaN based LED is known to show high internal or external efficiency at low current range. However, this LED operation occurs at high current range and in this range, a significant performance degradation known as 'efficiency droop' occurs. Auger process, carrier leakage process, field effect due to lattice mismatch and thermal effects have been discussed as the causes of loss of efficiency, and these phenomena are major hindrance in LED performance. In order to investigate the main effects of efficiency loss and overcome such effects, it is essential to obtain relative proportion of measurements of internal quantum efficiency (IQE) and various radiative and nonradiative recombination processes. Also, it is very important to obtain radiative and non-radiative recombination times in LEDs. In this research, we measured the IQE of InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) LEDs with PSS and Planar substrate using modified ABC equation, and investigated the physical mechanism behind by analyzing the emission energy, full-width half maximum (FWHM) of the emission spectra, and carrier recombination dynamic by time-resolved electroluminescence (TREL) measurement using pulse current generator. The LED layer structures were grown on a c-plane sapphire substrate and the active region consists of five 30 ${\AA}$ thick In0.15Ga0.85N QWs. The dimension of the fabricated LED chip was $800um{\times}300um$. Fig. 1. is shown external quantum efficiency (EQE) of both samples. Peak efficiency of LED with PSS is 92% and peak efficiency of LED with planar substrate is 82%. We also confirm that droop of PSS sample is slightly larger than planar substrate sample. Fig. 2 is shown that analysis of relation between IQE and decay time with increasing current using TREL method.

  • Metamaterials, artificially structured nanomaterials, have enabled unprecedented phenomena such as invisibility cloaking and negative refraction. Especially, hyperbolic metamaterials also known as indefinite metamaterials have unique dispersion relation where the principal components of its permittivity tensors are not all with the same signs and magnitudes. Such extraordinary dispersion relation results in hyperbolic dispersion relations which lead to a number of interesting phenomena, such as super-resolution effect which transfers evanescent waves to propagating waves at its interface with normal materials and, the propagation of electromagnetic waves with very large wavevectors comparing they are evanescent waves and thus decay quickly in natural materials. In this abstract, I will focus discussing our efforts in achieving the unique optical property overcoming diffraction limit to achieve several extraordinary metamaterials and metadevices demonstration. First, I will present super-resolution imaging device called "hyperlens", which is the first experimental demonstration of near- to far-field imaging at visible light with resolution beyond the diffraction limit in two lateral dimensions. Second, I will show another unique application of metamaterials for miniaturizing optical cavity, a key component to make lasers, into the nanoscale for the first time. It shows the cavity array which successfully captured light in 20nm dimension and show very high figure of merit experimentally. Last, I will discuss the future direction of the hyperbolic metamaterial and outlook for the practical applications. I believe our efforts in sub-wavelength metamaterials having such extraordinary optical properties will lead to further advanced nanophotonics and nanooptics research.

  • In display and semi-conductor manufacturing process, there are numerous unstable factors such as particle concentration, minimal vibration, changes in magnetic field, or electrostatic that becomes an issue to be managed and controlled. In the recent, X-ray ionization is widely used that is neutralized by separating air or gas molecules in the area where the static must be resolved. The mono-type of X-ray ionizer was not capable to be used in $8^{th}$ generation panels manufacturing plant due to its insufficient ionizing coverage since the panel itself is approximately in $2m{\times}3m$. To resolve the current problem, the development of new type called, "Multi-type X-ray ionizer" has resulted in covering enough ionizing space in $8^{th}$ generation panels industry. Comparing mono and multi types with MCNPX code simulation, the multi one indicates more X-ray flux, efficiency, and ionization performance in comparison with either a mono-type or multi-type in array format. In addition, the ionizing efficiency of overlapping area with multi-type showed 30% higher effectiveness rate as to the ordinary mono-type.
