The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of households with risky debt loads. The study used financial ratios to determine which households were over-indebted. The 3 ratios used were Debt to Asset ratio, Debt to Financial asset ratio, and Debt Service ratio. Data for this study was the 2011 Survey of Household Finance. Households that demonstrated total debts of 70% or more when compared to total assets were 8.8%. Households that demonstrated a debt load totaling 5 or more times their total financial assets were 19%. Households with monthly repayment obligations of 40% or more of disposable income were 20%. Households that fulfilled all 3 financial ratio criteria were 1.5% of total indebted households. Over-indebted households demonstrated severe economic condition in terms of debt, but not all over-indebted households were categorized as being in economically vulnerable group. The major determinants of households with risky debts were income, asset, purpose of loans, and spending behavior of the households.
The purposes of this study are to identify the factors affecting asset and debt choice behavior of rural households as well as to examine the differences in asset and debt choice behavior between rural and urban households. The data are taken from Korean Household Panel Study conducted in 1996 by Daewoo Economic Research Institute. Among 2,833, a final sample of 2,625 -537 rural and 2,088 urban sample- is used in this study. The results show that, the asset and debt choice behavior of rural households is totally different from that of urban households. The ratio of rural households holding all types of financial assets and sales credit is less than that of urban households while the ratio of holding real asset and loan is greater in rural than urban households. The most influential variable on the ownership of asset and debt is the age of household head. And there exist interrelationships between ownership of different assets and debts.

This study aims to examine and measure the impact of capital structure on the profitability of companies in emerging markets. The research sample includes eighteen rubber companies listed on the Vietnam stock exchange from 2015-2019. After collecting the research data, it was imported into excel to calculate the criteria for the research model. By using Stata 16 software, the study selected a data processing model and evaluated the relevance of the regression analysis model. The research results show that the profitability of listed rubber companies in Vietnam (measured by return on equity (ROE) has a positive relationship with the debt-to-asset ratio but has a negative relationship with the long-term debt-to-asset ratio. The results also show a positive impact of firm size and revenue growth on profitability while liquidity and the ratio of tangible fixed assets to total assets do not affect significantly. These results are consistent with most of the previously published studies. However, in contrast to many previous studies, our study shows that the long-term debt-to-assets ratio has a negative effect on profitability while the debt-to-asset ratio has a positive effect. This is entirely consistent with the characteristics of long-term debt use in emerging markets.
This study attempted to examine a theoretical framework which synthesizes risk attitude, type of investment management and investment behavior and to provide the specific investment strategy by analysing several variables which have effect upon the investment behavior. The results of this research were as follow : 1. Risk attitude had significant differences by the variabels such as age, sex, education, income and debt/asset ratio. Also the type of investment management was influenced significantly by the variables such as age, education, occupation, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation and risk attitude. The ratio of risky asset holdings was affected by the variabels such as age, education, occupation, housing ownership, income, total asset, debt/asset ratio, achievement motivation, risk attitude and type of investment management. 2. Among several variables affecting the ratio of risky asset holding risk attitude, education, type of investment management, debt/asset ratio and achievement motivation had direct effect on it. Besides age had indirect effect through risk attitude and age, achievement motivation and risk attitude had indirect effect through the type of investment management. 3. The results of this study showed that causal relation between input, throughput and output can be applied to household's investment behavior and the concept of risk or risk attitude can be applied to other fields except household's investment. Also it could be attributed to provide the investment strategy for improving level of household's financial well-being.
The purpose of this study is to investigate empirically interaction among the financing decision, investment decision, and profitability by using 41 fisheries corporations in Korea, and to suggest implications of the empirical results for government's financial policy for fisheries corporations. Sample period is 19 years from 1982 till 2000. This analysis method employs the two stage least squares(2SLS) estimation method. From the results of regression analysis by 2SLS estimation method, the adjusted $R^2$ values were high and the overall F values indicated significant. The empirical results of this study are as follows; (1) determinant factors of capital structure model for fisheries are profitability, firm-size, fisheries investment of total asset, and business risk. As pecking order theory explains, the higher is profitability the lower is debt ratio. The larger firm-size, the higher is debt ratio. The higher is fisheries investment of total asset and business risk, the higher is debt ratio. (2) determinant factors of investment model for fisheries are the change of sales, business risk, and debt ratio. These factors have positive relation to fisheries investment of total asset (3) determinant factors of profitability model for fisheries are fisheries investment of total asset and debt ratio. These factors have negative relation to profitability. On the basis of analysis results, on the government's financial policy for fisheries corporations, I suggests that with interest rate reduction, the government should lend more funds to solve the crisis in the financial structure of the fisheries firms
The purposes of this study were to analyze the profitability of audited restaurant franchise firms and to investigate the financial variables affecting profitability. This study decomposed profit variation into the three main factors comprising the Du Pont Identity (operating efficiency, asset use efficiency and financial leverage). The operating efficiency of restaurant franchise firms was on the rise until 2004, but dropped dramatically in 2005. Especially, the profit margin dropped from 13.46% in 2004 to 6.54% in 2005. The asset use efficiency has been decreasing since 2003. The total asset turnover ratio, which can be indicative of over-investment, dropped from 1.55 in 2003 to 1.50 in 2005. The financial leverage remained stable after 2002. There were major differences in debt accumulation among the firms, and the current level of debt was thought to be higher in the restaurant industry than in other industries. Based on the results of a multiple regression analysis, we concluded that the factors affecting ROE were the debt-equity ratio, total asset turnover and the size of the firm. The debt-equity ratio and total asset turnover had a significantly positive effect on ROE, while the firm size had a significantly negative effect on ROE. However, the current ratio and sales growth rate were not significant. The finding that firm size and profitability were negatively related implied that restaurant franchise firms should pursue qualitative growth rather than quantitative growth. There was no major difference in profitability between domestic brands and foreign brands. However, the domestic brand was more efficient in terms of asset usage than the foreign brand.

The capital structure is one of the hot financial topics among researchers and scholars. Its importance comes from the fact that capital structure is closely related to companies' ability to meet different stakeholders' needs. A suitable capital structure will boost the business and create a competitive advantage in the context of fierce competition. Many companies choose an optimal debt level based on the trade-off between interest and debt costs. This study aimed to test the existence of trade-off theory in capital structure, the case of Vietnam's real estate companies, which are growing very fast recently. Instead of considering constant optimal leverage to test the trade-off model, we take advantage of the dynamic capital structure determined by growth opportunities, profitability, tax incentives, tangibility, liquidity, and firm size. The dynamic panel data regression was estimated by the system Generalized Method of Moment (Sys-GMM). The empirical evidence showed that real estate companies listed in the Vietnamese stock market might change their leverage toward a target capital structure determined by influential factors in a long-term perspective. In particular, the debt-to-asset ratio will change by approximately 14 percent, positively, in response to the difference between the current debt-to-asset ratio and the dynamic target debt-to-asset ratio.
This study was attempted to identify the liquidity trends and determinants of private hospitals in Korea different. Data used in this study were collected from 98 hospitals with complete general data of present conditions as well as financial statements(balance sheets, income statements). They were chosen from hospitals that passed the standardization audit undertaken by the Korean Hospital Association from 1996 to 2000 for the purpose of accrediting training hospitals. The dependent variables in this study were used current ration and quick ratio as a proxy indicator for liquidity. The independent variables were ownership type, hospital type, location, bed size, period of establishment, short-term liabilities to total assets, long-term liabilities to total assets, borrowings to total assets, fixed asset ration, net profit to total assets, operating margin to gross revenue, growth rate of net worth to total assets, total asset turnover, and business risk(volatility of profit). The major findings of this study were as follows. Trends of liquidity(current ratio, quick ratio) had been continuously decreased. Especially, There were very distinct decreasing trends of personal hospitals and less than 300beds, which weakened liquidity. The factors had significant effect on current ratio were short-term debt to total assets(-), fixed asset ratio(-), business risk(+). High short-term debt to total assets, high fixed asset ratio and high business risk significantly decreased in liquidity. The factors that significantly affected on quick ratio were short-term debt to total assets(-), borrowings to total assets(+), fixed asset ratio(-), business risk(+).
This study analyzed the information factors which determine cash liquidity in Korean export-oriented companies. In this paper, cash liquidity means the ratio of the value of cash or cash equivalent to the asset value subtracted marketable securities value from total asset value. The empirical test shows that main information factors are the size of company, the growth opportunity of company, the volatility of operating cash flows and free cash flows, the credit yield spread of company, the debt ratio, the turnover ratio of cash flows and free cash flows, and the estimate of bankruptcy that amounts to the inverse number of Z score. In summary, the size of company, debt ratio, turnover ratio of cash flows and free cash flows, and Z-score have negative influence on the cash liquidity of Korean export-oriented companies. but the volatility of operating cash flows affect the cash liquidity positively.
This study gives an account of the state of baby-boomer households in regard to assets and liabilities utilizing the 2006 Household Asset Survey and the 2011 Survey of Household Finances. Using the data gathered from each year, this study examined the proportion of households who had each type of asset and liability, and the amount of them. This study also compared the amount of assets and liabilities of baby-boomer households with those of non baby-boomer households in 2006 and 2011 respectively. Finally, this study examined the amount of change and composition ratio of assets and liabilities of baby-boomer households between 2006 and 2011. Selected financial ratios were also presented for both years. Major findings are as follows. The average asset amount for baby-boomer households was approximately 296 million in 2006 and 392 million in 2011. Of total assets, 78% and 76.5% were real assets in 2006 and 2011 respectively. The average financial assets of 2006 baby-boomer households were approximately 66 thousand and the average amount of debt was 42 thousand. For 2011 baby-boomer households, the average amount of financial assets was 92 thousand and the average amount of debt was 73 thousand. Results from the 2011 survey showed that baby-boomer households had a significantly higher proportion of total assets, total debt, and net worth than non baby-boomer households. The proportion of savings, saving insurance, stocks, and mutual funds were significantly higher for baby-boomer households than non baby-boomer households in 2011. In regard to financial ratios, the emergency fund index and debt burden index were appropriate to the guidelines of asset quality, although the propensity to investment indexes were not.
