The aim of this study was to verify the effect of the parameters in relation to college students' awareness of sexual assault and sexual violence experience. The subjects were 408 male and female college students attending four universities located in Jeju island. Sexual assault awareness measures, sexual violence experience scale, and the scale of sexual violence allowance scale were used in the questionnaires. First, correlation analysis showed a significant negative correlation between sexual violence awareness and sexual violence. Also, sexual violence awareness and sexual violence allowance scale showed a considerable negative correlation. This suggests that the higher the sexual assault awareness, the lower the sexual damage and sexual violence allowance scale. Second, after analyzing the division of the subject into research model and competition model to verify the mediation effect in relationship of the sexual violence awareness and sexual violence experience, it was clear that sexual awareness does not have a direct effect on the experience of sexual damage. It rather mediated the sexual violence allowance scale. Therefore, the research model, which is the full mediation model, was selected. In other words, sexual assault awareness appeared to fully mediate the relationship between sexual assault awareness and sexual assault experience. This means that sexual assault perception has an indirect influence through sexual assault allowance rather than a direct effect on the sexual assault experience. Thus, the more well established that sexual assault awareness is, the lower the sexual assault allowance scale. Finally, the lowered sexual assault allowance scale could reduce the sexual assault harm. To improve the sexual assault recognition, a systematic sexual violence prevention education should be conducted. Sexual assault prevention education would allow students in dating relationships to become mature in their human rights and maintain the proper emotional relationship and enable a reduction in the harm sexual assault as a result of giving them the consideration. Finally, this study had a limitation in selecting the subjects as the college students living in Jeju. Therefore, in order to compensate for this limitation, follow-up studies should be carried out on with a sample of generalized and various research subjects.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing sexual assertiveness in dating college students. Methods: With a cross-sectional survey design, 468 college students who have had dating experiences were recruited and answered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA with Scheffe? test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The sexual assertiveness of college students showed significant results: positive correlations with self-assertiveness and negative correlations with traditional sexual attitude, gender role stereotypes. Significant predictors of sexual assertiveness were traditional sexual attitude, gender role stereotypes, and self-assertiveness. These variables explained 37% of the variance in sexual assertiveness. Conclusion: Findings suggest that it is important to identify and improve communication patterns in relation to sexual assertiveness. There is a need for sex education programs for college students that are relevant and effective.
Recently, dating violence has emerged as a serious social problem, but there is not enough research on controlling behavior among the subtypes of dating violence. Thise study explored the relationship between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior, and the mediation effect of social dominance orientation and social comparison orientation. Furthermore, the study examined if the mediation effect of social dominance orientation between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior differed by gender. As a result, the higher the level of psychological entitlement, the stronger the level of social dominance orientation, social comparison orientation, and the controlling behavior. In addition, the stronger the level of social dominance orientation and social comparison orientation, the more frequently was the occurance of the controlling behavior committed. The level of social dominance orientation mediated the relationship between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior. The level of ability comparison orientation mediated the relationship between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior. The mediation effect of social dominance orientation between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior was moderated by gender. In other words, the mediation effect of social dominance orientation between psychological entitlement and controlling behavior was significant for the male, but not for the female. The limitations of the study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
The purposes of this research were to evaluate the effects of the sex education program on sexual knowledge and sexual attitude, and to provide fundamental information on sex education for middle school students. The research design was comparison and experimental groups including pre-test and post-test. The study subjects were 160 male middle school students in Pusan: 80 students of the experimental group and 80 students of the comparison group. The experimental group showed the significant differences from the comparison group in terms of sexual knowledge and sexual attitude. Through formative evaluation, students recognized human sexuality, especially in the areas of physical change, psychological change, dating, sexual drives and sexual violence. This sexual education program was designed with literature review and participated students' requests.
Purpose: Sex education should be given priority to address dating violence. Comprehensive sex education has been developed based on a nonviolent communication model between couples for the smooth resolution of problems with the opposite sex. The purpose of this study was to develop and apply Comprehensive Sex Education for unmarried couples in their 20s-30s and to examine the effects on sex communication, problem-solving communication, and relationship competence. Methods: This study developed a total of six web-based sex education sessions. A comprehensive sex education program combined with nonviolent communication between couples was developed based on the UNESCO Sex Education Guidelines. A pre- and post-equivalence control design was used to provide moderation-based sex education to compare the effects on gender communication, communication dissatisfaction, and relationship development. Results: We developed a comprehensive sex education program for couples that took three minutes per episode, on a web-based basis. Sex communication, problem-solving communication, and love relationship competence showed significant pre- and post-test differences between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: The program of this study is an attempt to introduce Korea to comprehensive sex education, which has already been shown to be effective through numerous verification processes abroad and will provide assistance in forming future relationships between lovers.
Recently, Crime patterns in our society are diversifying as followed on the urbanization of population and the influx of immgrants. Existing murder, kidnap, sexual assault, etc. Especially, the crimes such as school violence, dating violence, domestic violence, violent abuse and even social hatred a crime, motiveless crime are spreading into every phase of national life. Due to the social situation, the sharp increase in demand for personal protection, the scale of private security industry has been constantly expanded. Following this trend, the personal protective regulations in Security Industry Act has been revised several times since the it was enacted in 1995. However, despite the fact that the legal and institutional aspects should have been amended and improved systematically according to the industrial development, the regulations adopted initially adopted has been maintained so far, which have resulted in various problems as they could not coincide with the purpose of private security, being divorced from the reality of private security industry and social changes. Especially, in the case of personal protection service and facility security service, the legal requirements of both services are identical with each other in terms. Such legal systems may cause confusion to security businesses and employees, or the police managing and supervising them, regarding the scope and duties of security services. In order to improve such problems, the regulations of permission requirement that the personal protective regulations in Security Industry Act should be revised system. In this study, relevant personal protection provisions prescribed in the Security Industry Act have been reviewed critically in this paper. And also the regulations were review of those personal protection provisions enacted in security industry Act, so that the improvement plan for the personal protection provisions that are apposite to the cases in this country could be suggested in order to amend the current laws and provide real grounds for the law enforcement.
We would like to suggest the guideline of use of materials of sexual education for adolescent in school by examining the status of use of materials and by evaluating the video materials frequently used. Survey was done by enquetes on status of use of materials of sexual education from school nurses in 190 primary, 44 middle and 50 high schools in Seoul, Kyonggi-do and Kangwon-do from August 1999 to February 2000. The frequently used 84 videotapes were evaluated on their contents. As for the status of use, 99.3% of subjected schools possessed the materials for sexual education. Decision of purchase was determined according to the review of contents (92.6%). Information about materials was received by the advertisement in newspapers or broadcasting (46.1%) or recommendation of peer teacher (32.4%). Videotape was most frequently used (64.1%) rather than books or CD. Teachers concerns on the materials were the educational content according to developmental stage of students (41.9%), content provoking interest (33.5%) and concrete guide for teacher (10.6%). As for the evaluation of the contents of videotapes, a subject of education was not described out of 46.6%. Videotape producer were mostly the Government-affiliated institutes or non-profit organizations (86.8%). The year of production was indicated from 41.7%. In this study, the content elements of 'Healthy Couple Relationship' were extracted through literature analysis, and the need for contents of 'Healthy Couple Relationship' was surveyed in 197 families of home economics teachers and 154 high school students. Based on this, the 'Healthy Couple Relationship' curriculum(plan) of high school home economics curriculum was developed as the backward design, and it was verified by the expert group. The results are as follows: First, when measured on a 5-point Likert scale, the mean scores of the need for content elements of 'Healthy Couple Relationship' was 4.39 for teachers, and 4.02 for students, respectively. The content elements of 'understanding dating violence' was 4.70 for teachers and 4.19 for students. Second, the developed 'Healthy Couple Relationship' curriculum consists of two templates, one for each unit, including curriculum goals, unit composition and unit goals, 8 learning subjects and content elements, evaluation plans including 24 lesson plans. In this study, it is meaningful to propose a "Healthy Couple Relationship" curriculum as an elective course in high school home economics curriculum in preparation for the high school credit system, and to lay the foundations for opening elective courses.
In this article, we examine the real meaning behind the stories in which the N-po Generation (Millennial Generation) is depicted, through the observation of entertainment programs, TV series, and movies. This could be an opportunity to investigate the aspects of emotional customs of our era, which have been described by television media as portraying the complex and multifaceted reality in the most mundane and popular manner while influencing the public. Problems with youth unemployment, the polarization of life, and instability are not only global issues but situations that specifically occur in South Korea. It is thus vital to pay attention to the inner side of the N-po Generation who enjoy Sohwakhaeng (small but certain happiness) by eating alone as the placebo effect of this tough reality. This is an agenda that should be viewed as a problem in the fundamental design of South Korean society. The consciousness of the problem shown in the TV series has been drawing attention. The TV series Because depicts a love narrative that concentrates on emotions in a relationship that started between housemates due to poverty and housing problems, leading to marriage. Thus, the TV series persuasively dramatized 'confluent love' in the N-po Generation. In the movie , Miso can be regarded as a symbol that represents the emergence of a new generation of cultural sensitivity. There is a suggestion in the sequence of that identifies the pursuit of taste with the discovery of identity. The TV series is a growth narrative that deals heavily with youth unemployment, temporary workers, fragmented families, and dating violence. The housemates in find emotional stability through interaction with each other, and courageously approach their individual problems. In the process, images of women, who are empathetic towards others and are willing to jointly solve their problems, are calmly depicted to reveal a story of growth revolving around a ground emotional community. The current problem that South Korean society should contemplate is how to be fully human beyond mere survival, and how to further seek the conditions of human existence. In that sense, what we should pursue is a notion of 'publicness', which can put several generations together. Because of the reality that confliction between generations must be triggered, in order to make a passage of sympathizing, mass media's sensitivity training becomes more important. This may be the duty of mass media.
