Objectives: This study is a descriptive research study conducted to grasp the Prediction factors of the sexual violence experience of college students. Methods: A convenience sampling was performed for 500 students from one college located in Gyeongsangbuk-do, who agreed to the purpose of this study. Data collection was conducted from October 5, 2015, to October 23, 2015, by filling out the self-report questionnaire. Among the 450 subjects excluding those with missing values, a questionnaire of dating violence experience was applied to 317 college students who answered that they had a friend of the opposite sex, and variables and prediction factors related to dating violence experiences were identified. The statistical methods used were descriptive statistics, x2-test, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and binary logistic regression analysis. Results: As a result of the study, the experience of sexual behavior before entering college (𝑥2=6.52, p=.011), experience of sexual violence damage before entering college(p=.045), the experience of sexual assault before entering college (p=.007) and experience of school violence damage(p=.002) were variables related to the sexual violence experience of college students. School violence victimization (OR=4.831, p=.007) and controlling dating partners (OR=1.349, p<.001) were predictors of dating sexual violence. Dating sexual violence experience group were compared to dating sexual violence non-experience group, the relative degree of controlling dating partners was high (t=4.25, p<.001) and had a traditional gender role attitude (t=2.94, p=.004). and there was a positive correlation (r=.358, p<.001) between controlling dating partners and gender role attitude. Conclusions: In order to prevent sexual violence on dating among college students, it is expected that more effective health education results will emerge if the contents of the school-age school violence victimization experience and the control of dating partners, which are predicted factors of sexual violence on dating, are included in the sexual violence prevention program.
The purpose of this study is to explore gender differences in elderly's dating experience and related variables. 427 elderly of age 65 or older participated. The results are as follows. 1. 80% of widowed elderly had no dating experience, and far more elderly men than women had dating experience. 2. Attitudes towards dating, of both elderly themselves and their children, had influence on the elderly's dating experience, regardless of gender. This indicates that the elderly's own acceptance and their children's positive attitude are important to the elderly's dating experience. 3. Gender differences were found in influences of living arrangement (whether they lived with their children or not), economical reasons, and personality factors. These variables proved significant only for the elderly men. More elderly men who did not live with their children than the elderly men who did had experienced dating, and economical reasons along with personality factors proved to be obstructive for elderly men's dating life.
The major purpose of this study was to investigate the causal effect of the primary triad experiences on dating relationship satisfaction through self-esteem among college students. The primary triad experiences were composed of the parents' differentiation level of couple relationship and the parent-child relationship including family rule, triangulation and communication. Dating relationship satisfaction included such subscales as problem-solving communication, global satisfaction, affection communication and time together. The study data were collected from 382 college students by using self-administered questionnaire method. The results showed that parents' differentiation was positively correlated with self-esteem and all components of dating relationship satisfaction and that family rule was negatively associated only with problem-solving communication. Triangulation was negatively related with most components of dating relationship satisfaction and self-esteem, while parent-child communication showed positive correlations with the same variables. Path analysis results showed that self-esteem mediated the effect of most variables of primary triad experiences on dating relationship satisfaction. In addition, variables of the primary triad experience had direct influences on most components of dating relationship satisfaction. Self-esteem was found to be the most powerful variable influencing dating relationship satisfaction. The findings of the study were discussed in terms of pre-marital education and counseling.
This study investigates the factors associated with adolescent females' sexual behavior. Results from 390 adolescent females reveal that dating atmosphere was the strongest and the most influential risk factor predicting adolescent females sexual behavior, which has been a neglected variable in the research of adolescent sexual behavior. Age and similarity of sexual attitude with her dating partner, in addition to the dating experience had very significant impacts on highly sexually experienced adolescent females' sexual behavior. Adolescent females with low sexual experiences were significantly affected by similarity of sexual attitude with dating partner, siblings, and peers, her own attitude, age, and dating atmosphere. The findings from this study also indicate that parental supervision, dating atmosphere, respondent's sexual attitude, love for partner, and communication with parents on sexual issues were significant factors for determining adolescent females' sexual involvement.
The purpose of this study was to describe the features of dating violence and to examine the perceptions of why dating violence occurred and the influence of violence on their relatioships. This study relied on the qualitative research method in order to approach their subjective experience. The major findings were as follows; 1) Respondents had been involved in various forms of violence, including insulting, hitting, slapping in the face, and kicking. Dating violence occurred primarily on weekends and in private and public settings such as the residence of one of the partners and restaurant. It was likely to occur repeatedly and in serious relationships. There were sex differences in prevalence of dating violence. Male partner was likely to be a initiator and do severe acts. 2) The majority of respondents had a tendency to label themselves as victims rather than as initiators of violence. Jealousy was perceived as the primary causal factor leading to dating violence. 3) Both offenders and victims reported emotional trauma like anger and shame. Their relationships has worsened because of physical violence, but didn't terminate.
The purpose of this study was to examine the dynamics of psychological and sexual violence in dating among high school students. Subjects consisted of 1,205 male and female adolescents from all parts of the country. 1,092 respondents were included in the final analysis(90.6%). For psychological violence, 13.3%(n=145) reported to have such experiences with a dating partner at least once or more. The most frequently used forms of violence were shouting, insulting language and behaviors, and blaming for a physical appearance. There were no sex differences in frequency of psychological violence between males and females, as an aggressor or a victim. Responses of victims were mostly negotiation and communication, and trying to forget it. For sexual violence, 27.8%(n=303) was found to have such experiences in a dating scence at least once or more. Hugging and kissing, close contact of parts of body, and gazing at parts of body were most frequently used forms. Responses of victims were pretending not to notice it and responding in the same way. There were significantly more male aggressors of sexual violence than females, but no sex difference in the number of victims. Those who reported to have experiences of violence were compared to the counterparts who had no experience in attitudes toward violence between dating partners and married couples, experiences of violence in childhood, school violence, and observations of violence between parents. Those with experience of dating violence reported to have significantly more experiences of violence in childhood and school, and parental violence. Based on the findings of this study, suggestion were made in regard to the need for development of dating violence prevention program for adolescents, and for welfare programs for adolescents in community.
This research tested the path model which examined the direct and indirect effects of family violence experience on perpetration of dating violence among college students. Two family violence variables such as witnessing parents' marital violence and being abused by parent were the exogeneous variables in the path model, while the mediated variables were consisted of (1) the social-learning-theory-derived variables such as acceptance of violence, positive outcome expectations of using violence, and aggressive conflict-coping behavior, and (2) control-theory-derived variables such as attachment, belief, and commitment. Data were from self-administered questionnaires completed by 332 male and 469 female students selected by stratified quota sampling method. The path analysis was done for males and females separately, since females reported significantly higher degree of dating violence than males. Results of the path analysis showed that first, for both males and females, being abused by parents directly and indirectly influenced dating violence, while witnessing parents' marital violence did not have effect on dating violence either directly or indirectly. Second, for male students, acceptance of violence and conflict coping behavior found to be the mediated variables in the effect of being abused by parents on dating violence. Third, for females, a control-theory-derived variable of belief as well as all three social learning theory-derived variables mediated the influence of being abused by parents on dating violence.
