In the computational molecular analysis, 3D structural comparison for protein searching plays a very important role. As protein databases have been grown rapidly in size, exhaustive search methods cannot provide satisfactory performance. Because exhaustive search methods try to handle the structure of protein by using sphere set which is converted from atoms set, the similarity calculation about two sphere sets is very expensive. Instead, the filter-and-refine paradigm offers an efficient alternative to database search without compromising the accuracy of the answers. In recent, a very fast algorithm based on the inter-atomic distance has been suggested by Ballester and Richard. Since they adopted the moments of distribution with inter-atomic distance between atoms which are rotational invariant, they can eliminate the structure alignment and orientation fix process and perform the searching faster than previous methods. In this paper, we propose a new 3D shape descriptor. It has properties of the general shape distribution and useful property in screening the molecular database. We show some experimental results for the validity of our method.

For constructing an intelligent multimedia database system for medical diagnosis, we are focusing on two technological points. One is a retrieval algorithm of databases, and the other is a coding algorithm of multimedia contents. For the first, previously we proposed a front-end database preprocessor called“keyword-network”, and in this paper we present its extended model providing an intelligent logical AND searching function especially for medical differential diagnosis. For the second, we present examples of multimedia intellectual coding methods for cardiovascular examination records.

This paper describes the development of the database system for tunnel management of Korea National Railways. In order to make the system both target independent and accessible by KNR network or modem, authors developed the system as a web-based application using java language and IBM DB2 database. The system includes the searching, reporting, graphical representation and statistical functions for tunnel data, maintenance records and checking records. Later, the system will be extended to include the process for tunnel state rating and maintenace prioritiy decision-making.

영상정보는 시각적이며, 공간적인 정보로 멀티미디어에서 가장 많이 사용되고, 저장과 출력 방식의 다양성, 대용량, 공간관계 표현 및 비정형적이라는 특징을 갖는다. 따라서 이러한 영상데이터의 효율적인 저장, 관리 및 검색기법에 대한 다양한 연구가 진행 중에 있고 최근 멀티미디어 환경에서의 내용기반의 검색에 관한 MPEG-7이라는 국제적인 표준화 움직임이 일어나고 있다. 특히 다량의 영상정보를 데이터베이스에 저장하고 효율적으로 질의.검색할 수 있는 실용화된 영상검색 시스템이 아직 일반화되어 있지 않으므로 보다 효과적인 영상 데이터베이스 검색 시스템의 구현에 대한 연구가 중요한 과제이다. 현재 텍스트기반의 영상 검색시스템은 상당히 연구가 진행되어 있으나, 많은 단점으로 인하여 최근에는 내용기반의 검색시스템에 대한 많은 연구가 진행중이다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 시스템에서 많이 사용하던 DCT기법 대신 영상처리에서 많이 사용하고 있는 wavelet변환을 사용하여 영상의 압축과 특징벡터를 추출하여 기존의 방법과 같고 정확한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

본 연구는 도서관 혹은 정보센터의 중요업무인 문헌탐색을 처리하는데 있어, 어떤 방법이 보다 신속하고 비용이 적게 들며, 효율적인가를 알아보기 위해 수작업탐색과 온라인탐색의 비용·효과를 비교·분석하였다. S대학교 의과대학 도서관에서 MEDLINE 데이터 베이스와 그에 해당하는 색인지 Index Medicus를 이용하여 6개의 질문을 탐색하였다.

This paepr presents an algorithm for searching an object in a fast way which contains a continuous moving object in multi-dimensional spatical databases. This algorithm improves the search method of R-tree for the case that a target object is continuously moving in a spatial database. It starts the searching from the current node instead of the root of R-tree. Thus, the algorithm will find the target object from the entries of current node or sibling nodes in the most cases. The performance analysis shows that it is more efficient than the existing algorithm for R-tree when search windows or target objects are continuously moving.

Traditionally, programs for NC machine tools have been created using either a maunual method or a computer-assisted method. However, both methods are known to be complex, time-consuming and error-prone. This paper presents an intelligent system, called "INPPC" which is interfaced with a CAD system to generate APT NC part program automatically. The INPPC is developed by using VP-Expert rule-based expert system development tool, and obtains the information about the part shape by searching the CAD database, about the process by asking the related questions to the user, and about the machine tooling by searching the tool database. The INPPC is implemented on an IBM compatible PC/AT under MS-DOS, and its performance is demonstrated by consulting a simple example problem.

It is required the electronic commerce system for satisfying the various information needs of user groups on the high speed communication networking. However, its information amounts will be explosive, and make it difficult for users to locate information they are interested in. Therefore we have developed the architecture of information searching platform for electronic commerce which searches and gathers information about electronic commerce site on internet and builds the keywords index database for serving the client's requests in order to provide non-professionals and small companies etc., with access easily to retrieval information.

본 연구는 객체 관계형 DB를 이용한 전기화재 원인을 진단할 수 있는 사례기반 시스템을 개발하였다. 시스템은 간편하고 그리고 효율적으로 DB를 구축 및 전기화재의 원인 진단에 중점을 두고 있다. 전기화재와 관련된 정보를 저장하고 접근하기 위해서 전기화재를 분별할 수 있는 주요한 항목들을 도출하였다. 사례기반 시스템은 과거의 전기화재 사례로부터 정보를 추출하여 구성하고, 새롭게 발생된 화재의 원인은 패턴매칭을 통해 사례기반 DB를 검색함으로써 진단될 수 있다. 사례기반 시스템은 수집된 다양한 정보를 이용하여 다중 속성에 대한 검색 기능뿐만 아니라 원인진단을 쉽게 사용될 수 있도록 향상된 진단 기능을 갖고 있다.

본 연구는 EconRef이라는 통합 OPAC의 구현에 관한 것으로서, 이 모델은 참고사서의 효율적인 업무처리를 가능하게 해주고, 이용자에게 조직적이고 신속한 정보서비스를 제공하는 것이다. 통합 OPAC은 REGIS와 The Book House와 같은 실제의 시스템을 기초로 하여 KPWin++를 이용하여 구현하였다. KPWin++는 전문가시스템 쉘로서 하이퍼텍스트와 전문가시스템이 결합되어 있다. 이 통합 OPAC 시스템은 6개의 모듈로 참고봉사 전문가시스템 ; 문헌정보원, 전문가정보원, 통계정보원 ; OPAC ; 외부데이터베이스 ; 이용자안내 등으로 구성되었다. 시스템의 평가는 EconRef 시스템과 초급사서 및 고급사서를 비교하였고, 하이퍼텍스트와 전문가시스템이 결합된 OPAC인 REGIS 시스템과 비교하였다. 비교결과 EconRef 시스템은 고급사서와 유사한 반면 초급사서 보다는 우수한 것으로 나타났다.
