  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to contribute to the literature on casino services by investigating critical service failures using the critical incident technique (CIT) and provide effective recovery strategies that can be adopted in practice. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected from Asian casinos' HNI customers in China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. This is the first study that has investigated VIP casino customers in leading Asian countries. The research used the critical incident technique (CIT) collect and a total of 227 incidents were analyzed. Results - The results show that three main categories and eleven subcategories are deduced. The first group concerns casino service system failures. The second group relates to service providers' responses to VIP customer complaints. The last group covers employees' attitudes and behavior toward customers. Conclusions - First, the most serious service problem in casinos was the service providers' attitudes rather than the service system failures. Second, Tangible recovery strategies such as "all pay" and "additional comps" were proven to enhance a casino's image and lower customers' intentions to switch. Customers, however, preferred intangible recovery strategies such as considerate responses, reliable problem management, sincere apologies, and accurate explanations.

  • We present a hybrid method for spectral reflectivity recovery, using 3D extrapolation as a supplemental method for 3D interpolation. The proposed 3D extrapolation is an extended version of 3D interpolation based on the barycentric algorithm. It is faster and more accurate than the conventional spectral-recovery techniques of principal-component analysis and nonnegative matrix transformation. Four different extrapolation techniques (based on nearest neighbors, circumcenters, in-centers, and centroids) are formulated and applied to recover spectral reflectivity. Under the standard conditions of a D65 illuminant and 1964 $10^{\circ}$ observer, all reflectivity data from 1269 Munsell color chips are successfully reconstructed. The superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated using statistical data to compare coefficients of correlation and determination. The proposed hybrid method can be applied for fast and accurate spectral reflectivity recovery in image processing.

  • This work is concerned with the problem of tracking a maneuvering target. In this paper, an error monitoring and recovery method of perception net is utilized to improve tracking performance for a highly maneuvering tar-get. Many researches have been performed in tracking a maneuvering target. The conventional Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) filter is well known as a suboptimal hybrid filter that has been shown to be one of the most cost-effective hybrid state estimation scheme. The subfilters of IMM can be considered as fusing its initial value with new measurements. This approach is also shown in this paper. Perception net based error monitoring and recovery technique, which is a kind of geometric data fusion, makes it possible to monitor errors and to calibrate possible biases involved in sensed data and extracted features. Both detecting a maneuvering target and compensating the estimated state can be achieved by employing the properly implemented error monitoring and recovery technique. The IMM filter which employing the error monitoring and recovery technique shows good tracking performance for a highly maneuvering target as well as it reduces maximum values of estimation errors when maneuvering starts and finishes. The effectiveness of the pro-posed method is validated through simulation by comparing it with the conventional IMM algorithm.

  • Since the sensor nodes are randomly arranged in the region of interest, it may happen that the sensor network area is separated or there is no sensor node in some area. In addition, after the sensor nodes are deployed in the sensor network, a coverage hole may occur due to the exhaustion of energy or physical destruction of the sensor nodes. The coverage hole can greatly affect the overall performance of the sensor network, such as reducing the data reliability of the sensor network, changing the network topology, disconnecting the data link, and worsening the transmission load. Therefore, sensor network coverage hole recovery has been studied. Existing coverage hole recovery studies present very complex geometric methods and procedures in the two-step process of finding a coverage hole and recovering a coverage hole. This study proposes a method for discovering and recovering a coverage hole in a sensor network, discovering that the sensor node is a boundary node by itself, and determining the location of a mobile node to be added. The proposed method is expected to have better efficiency in terms of complexity and message transmission compared to previous methods.

  • For real time services of multimedia applications, storage systems should provide data without degrading their performance. Since it is very important to recover data immediately at a disk failure, the disk recovery system is required. This paper presents a hybrid recovery scheme which prevents degraded the performance on a single disk failure at RAID level 5 architecture until the failed disk is replaced with a new disk. The proposed scheme is very economical compared to previous spare disk schemes because it does not use extra disks. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated and analyzed with that of the RAID level 5 for various requested sizes through the simulation. The results show that the performance of the proposed scheme is improved up to 20 percents at the failure mode and 80 percents at the reconfigured mode. After a multimedia server system has been built with a RAID controller and hard disks, the data recovery performance of the propose scheme are compared with the results of simulation.

  • It is possible to synchronize the spatio-temporal data with a server using a wireless network. These data has the benefit to be up-to-date and able to service to the user efficiently. However, the mobile devices or the wireless network are very vulnerable to various hard or soft failures. If an failure occurs during a synchronization process, the spatio-temporal data which is synchronizing could be inconsistent state. In this paper, we propose the recovery scheme to solve the problem caused by the errors which occur during the synchronization on mobile environments. The proposed scheme writes the log records for the synchronization process into the both local storages of the server and the mobile client. When the errors arise, the data which are synchronizing are recovered using the written log records. Also, we design and implement the proposed recovery scheme on the synchronization system.

  • In a recent mobile computing environment, the research for a transaction model have been actively carried out to deal with real-time transaction. However, the research for recovery model is relatively insufficient. Therefore, it would be very important for mobile recovery methods for database stability, just in case of data loss due to hand-off in mobile computing system. So, further efficient research should be keenly done to reduce I/O hand-off in mobile computing systems. SLL method increases I/O time due to sequential file. This paper have been suggested to efficient mobile recovery method in mobile computing system. Finally, it has been clearly demonstrated for system efficiency, conducting the performance assessment that currently proposed recovery system.

  • Purpose: The study was designed to identify the factors that influence the length of stay of elderly people in the recovery room. Methods: The design of the study was descriptive correlation. The subjects were 196 general anesthesia patients. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The average length of stay in the recovery room was 62.62 minutes. The length of stay in the recovery room was influenced by age (27.50%); number of diseases (12.97%) and albumin level (6.75%). Other related post operative factors (30.98%) were abnormal ABGA, shivering, PAR score, pain, arrhythmia, amount of bleeding, cardiovascular complication, hypertension and delirium. Those factors explained 78.2% out of the total variance of the length of stay. The strongest effector was the abnormal ABGA (${\beta}$=.226) and then shivering (${\beta}$=.222). Conclusion: The influencing factors should be assessed and monitored for the aged before and after surgery. Further research is needed to find the exact factors for ICU transfer elderly from recovery room and emergency surgery target.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with performance of nursing care for postoperative delirium of elderly patients among recovery room nurses. Methods: The research was a cross-sectional, descriptive design using questionnaires. The participants were 99 nurses from five urban recovery rooms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression with SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: The performance level of delirium nursing care was low because its mean score was 3.80 out of 5. Performance of nursing care was significantly positively correlated with the importance of nursing care and self-efficacy. Stepwise multiple regression analysis for performance of nursing care revealed that the most powerful predictor was the importance of nursing care. The importance of nursing care and self-efficacy explained 32.3% of the variance. Conclusion: The results indicate a need to enhance the performance of nursing care for postoperative delirium of elderly patients among recovery room nurses. The findings also suggest that consideration be given to strategies for improving the importance of nursing care and self-efficacy in developing programs to enhance the performance level of nursing care for elderly patients with postoperative delirium.
