A ' Virtual Private Network (YPN) over Internet' has the benefits of being cost-effective and flexible. However, given the increasing demands for high bandwidth Internet and for reliable services in a 'VPN over Intemet,' an IP/GMPLS over DWDM backbone network is regarded as a very favorable approach for the future 'Optical VPN (OVPN)' due to the benefits of transparency and high data rate. Nevertheless, OVPN still has survivability issues such that a temporary fault can lose a large amount of data in seconds, moreover unauthorized physical attack can also be made on purpose to eavesdrop the network through physical components. Also, logical attacks can manipulate or stop the operation of GMPLS control messages and menace the network survivability of OVPN. Thus, network survivability in OVPN (i.e. fault/attack tolerant recovery mechanism considering physical structure and optical components, and secured transmission of GMPLS control messages) is rising as a critical issue. In this Paper, we propose a new path establishment scheme under shared risk link group (SRLG) constraint for physical network survivability. And we also suggest a new logical survivability management mechanism by extending resource reservation protocol-traffic engineering extension (RSVP-TE+) and link management protocol (LMP). Finally, according to the results of our simulation, the proposed algorithms are revealed more effective in the view point of survivability.

Wireless sensor networks are installed in various environments and collect sensing data through wireless links. The quality of a wireless link may be unstable due to environment causes and hardware performance in wireless sensor networks. Since the change of the link quality may cause data loss, sensor nodes need to adaptively estimate the change of the link quality. Also, the routing protocol should deal with this situation. In this paper, the adaptive link quality estimation and routing scheme in the large-scale wireless sensor networks are proposed. When the quality of a link is unstable, sensor nodes agilely estimate the quality of links, and the new route is selected. When quality of a link is stable, the link quality is occasionally estimated so that the energy consumption is reduced. Moreover, sensor nodes exchange less beacons in order to reduce an overhead in dense networks. In the case of sparse network, the sensor nodes exchange more beacons for finding a better route. We prove that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency and reliability.
Purpose: Practical training in pediatric nursing gives students the opportunity to apply nursing knowledge to children in a realistic clinical context. Clinical practice faculty (CPF) and clinical nursing instructor (CNI) have played important roles in the pediatric nursing practicum. This study was conducted to develop a protocol to guide clinical practicum in pediatric nursing. Methods: A service design methodology was employed between August 2020 and May 2021 at four universities and four hospitals in South Korea. The participants were five CPFs, five CNIs, five nursing college graduates, and 60 nursing students. The service design process had four phases: discovery, definition, development, and delivery. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and observations. The data were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. Results: The participants reported needs for providing concrete guidance and explanation, nursing practice experience, and a link between school and the clinical field. A protocol was developed to fulfill the participants' needs. The protocol comprised detailed information, teaching methodology, and partnership to guide students in the pediatric nursing practicum. Conclusion: The protocol developed in this study can be used to provide guidance for students' clinical practice in the field of pediatric nursing.
High speed all optical network is a viable option to satisfy the exponential growth of internet usage in the recent years. Optical networks offer very high bit rates and, by employing technologies like internet protocol over wavelength division multiplexing(IP-over-WDM), these high bit rates can be effectively utilized. However, failure of a network component, carrying such high speed data traffic can result in enormous loss of data in a few seconds and persistence of a failure can severely degrade the performance of the entire network. Designing IP-over-WDM networks, which can withstand failures, has been subject of considerable interest in the research community recently. Most of the research is focused on the failure of optical links in the network. This paper addresses the problem of designing IP-over-WDM networks that do not suffer service degradation in case of a single link failure. The paper proposes an approach based on the framework provided by a recent paper by M. Kurant and P. Thiran. The proposed approach can be used to design large survivable IP-over-WDM networks.

This is the first part of the four-part paper describing the development of a packet-switched computer network named the KORNET In this paper, we present the overview of the KORNET, and discuss various aspects on the development of the netwo management center (NMC). The NMC acts as a nerve center of the network, performing such functions as network monitoring, subscriber and network management and routing manage-ment using operator dialogues. In the implementation of the NMC, we have developed various application softwares that include operator interface, primary/srcondary pan, session layer and packet level adaptor. As for packet, link and physical level protocols, we have modified the XODIAC X.25 originally developed by Data General, Inc. All the net-work protocols we have developed comply completely with the CCITT recommendations.

Due to frequent topology changes in wireless networks, inter-node link disconnection and path re-establishment occur, causing problems such as overloading control messages in the network. In this paper, to solve the problems such as link disconnection and control message overload, we perform path setup in three steps of the neighbor node discovery process, the route discovery process, and the route management process in the wireless network environment. The link stability value is calculated using the information of the routing table. Then, when the zone master monitors the calculated link value and becomes less than the threshold value, it predicts the link disconnection and performs the path reset to the corresponding transmitting and receiving node. The proposed scheme shows a performance improvement over the existing OLSR protocol in terms of data throughput, average path setup time, and data throughput depending on the speed of the mobile node as the number of mobile nodes changes.
A high performance control and monitoring system for a high speed railway train requires a reliable the real-time communication network. TCN/WTB is designed for the data transmission over the train bus, and UIC556 defines that all the data be transmitted over TCN/WTB. This paper evaluates the performance of the link layer of WTB(Wired Train Bus). The evaluated results can be used for the selection of parameters for the sporadic message data.
In wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes have a short transmission range and data is transferred from source to destination node using the multi-hop transmission. Sensor nodes are powered by battery and the link qualities are different, and the routing protocol in the wireless sensor network is one of the important technical issues. Multipath routing was proposed to reduce the data congestion and increase data throughput. In the multipath routing, however, each path can be interfered by the other path, and it can aggravate network performance. In this paper, we propose the multipath routing scheme for multi-rate wireless sensor networks. The multipath routing selects transmission paths to minimize transmission delay and path interference.

Energy harvesting from environment can make the energy constrained systems such as sensor networks to sustain their lifetimes. However, environmental energy is highly variable with time, location, and other factors. Unlike the existing solutions, we solved this problem by allowing the sensor nodes with mobilizer to move in search of energy and recharge from remote energy station. In this paper we present and analyze a new harvesting aware framework for mobile sensor networks with remote energy station. The framework consists of energy model, motion control system and data transfer protocol. Among them, the objective of our data transfer protocol is to route a data packet geographically towards the target region and at the same time balance the residual energy and the link connectivity on nodes with energy harvesting. Our results along with simulation can be used for further studies and provide certain guideline for realistic development of such systems.

This paper proposes the architecture and protocol of a data communication network for the safety system in nuclear power plants. First, we establish four design criteria with respect to determinability, reliability, separation and isolation, and verification/validation. Next we construct the architecture of the safety network for the following systems: PPS (Plant Protection System), ESF-CCS (Engineered Safety Features-Component Control System) and CPCS (Core Protection Calculator System). The safety network consists of 12 sub-networks and takes the form of a hierarchical star. Among 163 communication nodes are about 1600 origin-destination (OD) pairs created on their traffic demands. The OD pairs are allowed to exchange data only during the pre-assigned time slots. Finally, the communication protocol is designed in consideration of design factors for the safety network. The design factors include a network topology of star, fiber-optic transmission media, synchronous data transfer mode, point-to-point link configuration, and a periodic transmission schedule etc. The resulting protocol is the modification of IEEE 802.15.4 (LR-WPAN) MAC combined with IEEE 802.3 (Fast Ethernet) PHY. The MAC layer of IEEE 802.15.4 is simplified by eliminating some unnecessary (unctions. Most importantly, the optional TDMA-like scheme called the guaranteed time slot (GTS) is changed to be mandatory to guarantee the periodic data transfer. The proposed protocol is formally specified using the SDL. By performing simulations and validations using Telelogic Tau SDL Suite, we find that the proposed safety protocol fits well with the characteristics and the requirements of the safety system in nuclear power plants.
