  • A high speed data link capability is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of the spaceborne SAR system with high resolution because of the strict requirement for the real-time data transmission of the massive SAR data in a limited time of mission. In this paper, based on the data link model characterized by the spaceborne small SAR system, the high rate multi-channel data link module is designed including link storage, link processor, transmitter, and wide-angle antenna. The design results are presented with the performance analysis on the data link budget as well as the multi-mode data rate in association with the SAR imaging mode of operation from high resolution to the wide swath. The designed data link module can be effectively used for the spaceborne and airborne applications which requires to expand the high speed data link capability.

  • Next Generation Weapon system from the center of the platform to share information in real-time Network Centric Warfare(NCW: Network Centric Warfare) has been changed. Data link system is defined as a network. That is, all in real-time battlefield information is to enable sharing. Data link system is classified as a precision strike, Monitoring/control, control of a Patriot missile battery systems. These systems are most effective in a Joint warfare and precision strike. Data Link Systems(Data Communications) implementation is accomplished by using the KDLM(Korean Data Link Modem) and Radio Transceiver. KDLM is operated in conjunction with the legacy Radios(re-using fielded HF/VHF/UHF radio systems). In this paper, we describe in terms of KDLM system design. In this paper, the proposed design structure is how to effectively interact with legacy various radio. First, The results provide an analysis of that Dynamic TDMA system and apply modem structure. Radio characteristics data are necessary for an effective TDMA system design. This article analyzes the test results and describes the structure to improve the receive performance.

  • Link-16 is a widely used TDL (Tactical Data Link) which uses TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). Link-16 is a very low rate system, so it supports small size of data like tactical message and voice. However, there are related works to transmit situation awareness information like image due to the increasing interest about EBO(Effect-Based Operation), recently. Special TDMA scheduling is needed not static TDMA of Link-16 for image transmission because image data has much larger size than the existing tactical data. In this paper, we proposed Link-16K which enhances the Link-16 MAC. The proposed Link-16K is compatible with Link-16, and includes dynamic TDMA, new packing method, and an efficient retransmission scheme for image transmission effectively. We can see that image transmission delay is reduced and channel utilization is increased through simulation results of proposed idea.

  • In this paper, we have performed the analysis of RF transceiver system and communication link for the improvement in reliability of Smart-UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) Data-Link. The system analysis performed using the development specification of the data link and data sheet of using components through the system simulation tool that is Agilent EEsof ADS. Also, the communication link analysis peformed using a variety of propagation models for the smart UAV operation environments. As a result, we have presented problems appeared in the simulation results and development specification. As well as, we have presented about several problems and consideration issue for system design through the communication link analysis.

  • Multi-Platform Image and Intelligence Common data link(MPI-CDL) systems are designed to transmit the imaginary and signal intelligence data at an aeronautical to ground line of sight(LOS) link. This paper proposes a method to predict a link availability and analyzes the required link margin to satisfy a given link availability for MPI-CDL systems. To estimate a link availability the proposed method applies the conditional probability so that both a rain attenuation and a multipath fading are considered simultaneously. Link margins to meet the link availability for MPI-CDL systems are calculated according to an operating environment including frequencies, flight altitudes and transmission ranges. The required link margins for actual unmanned air vehicle systems are also given by simulation results.

  • An Estimation of VHF data link range for EW(Electronic Warfare) equipment in the sea environment was studied to predict the data link range between transmitting and receiving station. The theoretical estimation predicts within 3% error with actual measurement of VHF data link range at sea. Data link range factors including refraction and reflection are added in the basic wave propagation equation. The effect of refraction and reflection to the range is analysed with quantity level.

  • In this paper, we studied on-board antenna(primary link/secondary link/satellite link) used in UAV Data-link system. As a result, it is ideal to configure the Data-link as a triple link to secure the flight stability of the UAV, but the communication link should be configured according to the operating platform. As a result of overseas R&D trend analysis, the on-board Data-link antenna is installed and operated in a location where it is easy to secure LOS. The primary link consists of a directional antenna for basic operation and an omni-directional antenna for emergency operation. The secondary link uses a monopole/dipole antenna in the UHF/C band. Satellite link has been developed to apply phased array antenna to improve UAV operability.

  • The Network-Centric warfare over weapon data link networks has been developed for the recent decade. Since the US navy had begun to develop tactical digital information chain, it has gradually transformed into weapon data link technology. As data link network system and its protocol have been advanced into high-technology, focusing and targeting on moving targets become possible in net-enabled environments. However, it is difficult to identify the primary information from numerous battlefields and understanding approaches to damage a target in a timely manner. In this paper, to better understand the targeting assessment, we suggest a specific solution: Bomb Hit Indication(BHI) using information in weapon data link messages. In order to prove our suggestion, we implement the BHI solution and apply it into the weapon data link integrating system.
