대양항로에서 장거리 공대지통신을 위한 VHF Relay Network (VHF Relay Network for Long Air-to-Ground Communication in Oceanic Flight Routes)

  • In oceanic flight routes, HF radio and satellite data links have been used for air-to-ground communication, but these systems have long propagation delay and low data throughput. In this paper, we propose a reliable system to overcome the weakness of current HF radio and satellite communication systems for oceanic aeronautical flight routes. The proposed scheme uses only one aeronautical VHF channel in multi-hop oceanic communication environments and supports a hybrid type of multiple access, which consists of random access and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) scheme. The proposed system improves performance on delay and throughput as an effective solution to communicate end-to-end on the oceanic flight routes and strengthens the reliability of oceanic aeronautical communication.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the transition on architectural data such as valid indoor length, module, ratio of core, floor height, ceiling height and the type of structured cabling system according to the intelligent building grade through case study of the intelligent office buildings constructed in Korea since 1980. The results of this study were as follows. The average floor height was 3.80m, and it was higher in proportion to the IB grade. The average ceiling height was 2.57m, and it didn't have connection with the IB grade. The module of high frequency in application was $3.0{\times}3.0m$, and it showed 25% in the application frequency. The average valid indoor length was 12.27m. The average ratio of core was 24.49%. The type of high frequency in application for the structured cabling was Access Floor Type, and it showed 31% in the application frequency.

다중 방송채널을 위한 데이타 할당 (Data Allocation for Multiple Broadcast Channels)

  • 무선 환경에서는 채널의 대역폭과 휴대장치의 전력이 제한된다. 이러한 환경에서 데이타를 브로드캐스트(Broadcast) 하는 것은 효과적으로 클라이언트(Client)에게 데이타를 제공하기 위한 훌륭한 기법이 된다. 싱글 채널(Single channel)에서 뿐만 아니라 다중 채널(Multi-channel) 환경에서 클라이언트들의 데이타에 대한 접근 패턴에 따라 브로드캐스트 프로그램을 작성하는 기법이 연구되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 물리적으로 독립된 다중 채널 환경에서의 효과적인 브로드캐스트 기법에 대해 소개한다. 기존에 소개된 기법들에서는 데이타의 접근 확률(access probability)을 기초로 주어진 물리지 채널 수만큼 데이타 집합을 분할하게 된다. 이러한 기법들은 높은 접근 확률을 가지는 소수의 데이타의 낮은 접근 확률을 가지는 다수의 데이타로 나누게 된다. 하지만 이러한 기법들은 단순히 채널 수에 따라 데이타의 구분에만 관심이 있기 때문에, 동등한 채널 내에서 생기는 데이타들 간의 접근 확률의 차이가 무시된다. 실제 환경에서는 많은 수의 물리 채널을 확보하기가 어렵고, 상당히 많은 수의 데이타를 브로드캐스트 해야 한다. 따라서 동등한 채널 내에서도 접근 확률을 기초로 브로드캐스트 프로그램을 작성할 수 있다면 기존의 기법에서보다 더 좋은 성능을 낼 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 데이타의 집합을 채널 수에 맞게 분할함과 동시에 채널 내에서 브로드캐스트 되는 횟수를 정함으로써 다중 채널에서 접근확률의 편차가 심한 데이타를 브로드캐스트 해야 하는 상황에서 보다 적합한 방법을 제안한다.

  • 이동통신 시스템은 좋은 채널환경에서 고속의 데이터 전송이 가능해야 할 뿐만 아니라 이동통신 환경에서 발생할 수 있는 열악한 환경에서도 잘 동작할 수 있어야 한다. 이 논문에서는 신호대잡음비가 낮고 채널추정값이 부정확한 환경에서 CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), MC-CDMA(Multi-Carrier CDMA)의 성능을 비교 분석하였다. 논문의 수식 및 실험결과에서, 주파수 도약을 사용하는 OFDM 시스템이 l0dB 이상의 성능 감소가 발생하는 열악한 환경에서도 CDMA 시스템의 성능 감소는 크지 않은 것을 보였다. 또한 채널추정값의 신뢰도가 떨어질 때에는 OFDM에서 주파수 도약이나 시간축 확산을 하는 것 보다는 MC-CDMA와 같이 주파수축 확산을 하는 것이 채널 보상 성능에 도움이 된다는 것을 보였다.

The Influence of Noise Environment upon Voice and Data Transmission in the RF-CBTC System

  • The RF-CBTC (Radio Frequency-Communication Based Train Control) System is a communication system in railroad systems. The communication method of RF-CBTC system is the wireless between the wayside device and on-board device. The wayside device collects its location and speed from each train and transmits the distance from the forwarding train to the speed-limit position to it. The on-board device controlling device controls the speed optimum for the train. In the case of the RF-CBTC system used in Korea, transmission frequency is 2.4 [GHz]. It is the range of ISM(Industrial Scientific and Medical equipment) band and transmission of voice and data is performed by CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) method. So noises are made in the AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) and fading environment. Currently, the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is about 20 [dB], so due to bit errors made by noises, transmission of reliable information to the train is not easy. Also, in the case that two tracks are put to a single direction, it is needed that two trains transmit reliable voice and data to a wayside device. But, by noises, it is not easy that just a train transmits reliable information. In this paper, we estimated the BER (Bit Error Rate) related to the SNR of voice and data transmission in the environment such as AWGN and fading from the RF-CBTC system using the CDMA method. Also, we supposed the SNR which is required to meet the BER standard for voice and data transmission. By increasing the processing gain that is a ratio of chip transmission to voice and data transmission, we made possible voice and data transmission from maximally two trains to a wayside device, and demonstrated it by using Matlab program.

  • 현재 이동 통신 시장에서는 고속의 데이터 전송에 적합한 무선 접속 기술로 Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA)가 많은 주목을 받고 있고, 이를 기반으로 하여 Time Division Duplex (TDD) 기술이 결합된 OFDMA/TDD 방식이 앞으로 많이 사용될 전망이다. OFMA/TDD 방식은 다중 사용자의 레인징 심볼들이 기지국에 수신될 때 기지국은 특정 사용자의 심볼에 시간 동기를 맞추기 때문에 나머지 사용자의 심볼은 각각의 Symbol Timing Offset (STO)을 갖게 된다. 각 사용자의 STO는 선형적인 위상 성분을 야기하고 이러한 위상 성분이 합성되어 Multiple Access Interference (MAI)로 작용하는데 이는 레인징 부호 검출 확률을 저하시킨다. 따라서 STO에 따른 레인징 부호 검출 확률의 열화 정도를 정확히 파악하여 적절한 보정을 해주는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 OFDMA/TDD 방식을 사용하는 시스템에서 각 사용자의 STO에 따른 레인징 부호 검출 성능을 분석한다. 시뮬레이션결과 접속자의 수가 많을수록, 단말의 이동속도가 빠를수록 레인징 부호 검출 성능이 저하됨을 알 수 있다.

A Study on the VADAMA improvements of latency performance through control message collision avoid in MF-TDMA satellite network

  • 본 논문은 MF-TDMA(Multi-Frequency Time Division Multiple Access) 위성네트워크에서 가상할당기반 요구기반 다중접속 기법인 VADAMA(Virtual Allocation Demand Assigned Multiple Access) 기법에서 제어메시지 충돌로 인한 지연시간을 줄이는 방안을 제안한다. 위성 네트워크는 전통적으로 모든 네트워크 전송은 긴 지연시간이 제어메시지로 인해 발생하는 문제가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 가상할당 개념으로 지연시간을 줄인 VADAMA 기법에서 단말의 제어메시지 충돌로 인한 지연시간을 개선하기 위해, 모든 단말을 subnet으로 나눠 순서대로 제어메시지를 전송하도록 하는 VADAMA-PTR(VADAMA Periodic Transfer Request) 제안하였으며, 이를 기존의 DAMA 기법들과 지연시간과 데이터 처리율을 Matlab으로 성능분석하여 성능 향상이 있음을 보였다.

시간 주파수 다이버시티를 위한 분할된 확산코드를 이용한 멀티캐리어 CDMA 시스템 (A Multicarrier CDMA System Using Divided Spreading Sequence for Time and Frequency Diversity)

  • This paper proposes a new multicarrier code division multiple access (CDMA) system. The proposed multicarrier CDMA system provides the advantages that the transmission bandwidth is more efficiently utilized by using divided spreading sequence, time and frequency diversity is achieved in frequency selective nultipath (acting channel, and inter-carrier interference (ICI) can be minimized by using specific data and code pattern. In this system, transmitted data bits are serial-to-parallel converted to some parallel branches. On each branch each bit is direct-sequence spread-spectrum modulated by divided spreading sequences and transmitted using orthogonal carriers. The receiver providers a Rake for each carrier, and the outputs of Rakes are combined to get time and frequency diversity. This multicarrier CDMA system allows additional flexibility in the choice of system parameters. Upon varying system parameters, bit error rate (BER) performance is examined for the proposed multicarrier CDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed multicarrier CDMA scheme can achieve better performance than the other types of conventional multicarrier CDMA systems.

DSSS-Based Channel Access Technique DS-CDMA for Underwater Acoustic Transmission

  • This paper proposes a novel method for acoustically and wirelessly transmitting data underwater with a high transmission rate. The method uses the most promising physical layer and multiple access technique (i.e., the code division multiple channel access technique) to divide the channel into subchannels. Data is transmitted through these subchannels. The codes are pseudo-random noise (PN) sequences. In the spread-spectrum technique, a signal such as electrical, electromagnetic, acoustic signal generated in a particular bandwidth is deliberately spread in the frequency domain, which results in a signal with a wider bandwidth. This paper reviews the possibility of application of the direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) technique in an underwater system using MATLAB. As the result of our review, we recognize that the DS-CDMA technique can be applied to underwater environments.

Perceptions and Use of Open Access Journals by Nigerian Postgraduate Students

  • This article investigates perceptions and use of Open Access journals (OAJs) by master's degree students in two universities in the southwestern part of Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used in the study and the study population was comprised of 7,423 master's degree students in the University of Ibadan and 1,867 from Obafemi Awolowo University. A multistage random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 249 and the data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, correlation, and regression analyses. The findings revealed that OAJs were used for learning, dissertation writing, personal research, and development. OAJs were not frequently used because of download delays, unavailability of Internet facilities, and limited access to computers terminals, among other issues. OAJs were found to be of relative advantage, positively perceived, and found to be compatible with existing values and quality assurance in scholarly publications, hence their use for academic activities. The regression analyses showed that there was a significant positive relationship between positive perception, perception of relative advantage, perception of compatibility, perception complexity, and master's degree students' use of OAJs. Negative perception was found to have a significant negative correlation with the use of OAJs. This article recommends that quality assurance of OAJs should be ensured in order to boost users' positive perceptions to increase their patronage and usage of these scholarly outlets for various academic activities, which will in turn encourage research and development across the various institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
