  • The structural behavior of reinforced concrete coupled shear wall structures is greatly influenced by the behavior of their coupling beams. This paper presents a process of the seismic analysis of reinforced concrete coupled shear wall-frame system linked by hysteretic dampers at each floor. The hysteretic dampers are located at the middle portion of the linked beams which most of the inelastic damage would be concentrated. This study concerned particularly with wall-frame structures that do not twist. The proposed method, which is based on the energy equilibrium method, offers an important design method by the result of increasing energy dissipation capacity and reducing damage to the wall's base. The optimum distribution of yield shear force coefficients is to evenly distribute the damage at dampers over the structural height based on the cumulative plastic deformation ratio of the dissipation device. Nonlinear dynamic analysis indicates that, with a proper set of damping parameters, the wall's dynamic responses can be well controlled. Finally, based on the total plastic strain energy and its trend through the height of the buildings, a prediction equation is suggested.

  • Since the restoration or masticatory function is the most important aim of implants, it should be substituted for the role of natural teeth and deliver the stress to the bone under the continous load during function. In natural teeth, stress distribution can be obtained through enamel, dentin and cementum and the elasticity of the periodontal ligament play a role of buffering action. In contrast, implant prosthesis has a very unique characteristics that it delvers the load directly to bone through the implant and superstructure. This fact arise the needs to evaluate the stress distribution of the implant in the mechnical aspects, which has a similar role of natural teeth but different pathway of stress. With 3 kinds of implant in prevalent use, 2 types of experimental PEA implant models were made, axisymmetric and 2-dimensional type. In axisymmetric model, the stiffness of the part including the prosthesis and implant which extrude out of bony surface could be calculated with displacement of the superstructure un er 100N vertical load and then damping effects could be determined through this stiffness. In axisymmetric FEA model, load to the bone could be deduced by evaluation the stress distribution of the designed surface under the 100N vertical force and in 2-dimensional model, 100N eccentric vertical load and 20N horizontal loda. The result are as follows. 1. In every implant, stress to the bone tends to be concenturated on the cortical bone. 2. Though the stress of the cancellous bone is larger at the apex of implants, it is less compared with cortical bone. 3. Under 20N horizontal load, stress of the left and right sides of implant shows a symmetrical pattern. But under 100N eccentric vertical load, loaded side shows much larger stress value. 4. In the 1mm interface, stress distribution among implants tend to have a similar pattern. But under 20N horizontal load apposite side of being loaded shows less stress in IMZ. 5. In the case of screw type implant, stress tends to vary along with screw shape. 6. According to the result determined with microstrain, cancellous bone id generally under the condition of overload, while cortical bone is usually within the limitation of physiologic load. 7. In the Branemark implant, maximum stress to the cortical bone is larger than any other implant except for the condition of 20N horizontal force and 0.05mm interface. 8. Damping effects of implants is maximum in IMZ.

  • Guyed mast structures exhibit characteristics such as high flexibility, low mass, small damping ratio, and large aspect ratio, leading to a complex wind-induced vibration response mechanism. This study analyzed the time- and frequency-domain characteristics of the wind-induced response of a guyed mast structure using measured acceleration response data obtained from the Shenzhen Meteorological Gradient Tower (SZMGT). Firstly, 734 sets of 1-hour acceleration samples measured from 0:00 October 1, 2021, to 0:00 November 1, 2021, were selected to study the vibration shapes of the mast and the characteristics of the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution. Secondly, six sets of typical samples with different vibration intensities were further selected to explore the Gaussian property and modal parameter characteristics of the mast. Finally, the modal parameters of the SZMGT are identified and the identification results are verified by finite element analysis. The findings revealed that the guyed mast vibration shape exhibits remarkable diversity, which increases nonlinearly along the height in most cases and reaches a maximum at the top of the tower. Moreover, the GEV distribution characteristics of the 734 sets of samples are closer to the Weibull distribution. The probability distribution of the structural wind vibration response under strong wind is in good agreement with the Gaussian distribution. The structural response of the mast under wind loading exhibits multiple modes. As the structural response escalates, the first three orders of modal energy in the tower display a gradual increase in proportion.

  • Striations are growth-induced inhomogeneities which hamper the applications of solid-solution crystals and of doped crystals in numerous technologies. Thus the optimized performance of solid solutions often can not be exploited. The inhomogeneity problem can be solved in specific cases by achieving a distribution coefficient one in growth from melts and from solutions. Macrostep-induced striations can be suppressed by controlling the growth mode, by achieving growth on facets thereby preventing step bunching. Thermal striations are commonly assumed to be caused by convective instabilities so that reduced convection by microgravity or by damping magnetic fields was and is widely attempted to reduce such inhomogeneities. Here it will be shown that temperature fluctuations at the growth interface cause striations, and that hydrodynamic fluctuations in a quasi-isothermal growth system do not cause striations. The theoretically derived conditions were experimentally established and allowed the growth of striation-free crystals of $KTa_{1-x}Nb_xO_3$"KTN" solid solutions. Hydrodynamic variations from the accelerated crucible rotation technique ACRT did not cause striations as long as the temperature was controlled within $0.03^{\circ}$ at $1200^{\circ}C$ growth temperature. Alternative approaches to solve or reduce the segregation and striation problems in growth from melts and from solutions are discussed as well.

  • The very large container ships have been built recently and those ships have very small structural rigidity compared with the other conventional ships. As a result, the destruction of ship hull is occurred by the springing including to warping phenomena due to encounter waves. In this study, the solutions of hydrodynamic coefficients are obtained by solving the three dimensional source distribution method and the forward speed Green function representing a translating and pulsating source potential for infinite water depth is used to calculating the integral equation. The vessel is longitudinally divided into various sections and the added mass, wave damping and wave exciting forces of each section is calculated by integrating the dynamic pressures over the mean wetted section surface. The equations for six degree freedom of motions is obtained for each section in the frequency domain and stiffness matrix is calculated by Euler beam theory. The computations are carried out for very large ship and effects of bending and torsional ridigity on the wave frequency and angle are investigated.

  • This study conducted wide-tank experiments and numerical calculations for a vessel in various positions such as upright and inclined by 2 and 4 degrees, with the goal of investigating the motion amplitude response of a small damaged fishing boat subject to a beam sea. Numerical calculations were conducted based on the three-dimensional source distribution method. The good agreement of the numerical calculation and experimental results confirmed that the present calculation method can be efficiently used for the initial design of a small fishing boat. In addition, while the chine-line type has been frequently adopted to improve a ship's resistance performance in the design of a small fishing boat, it is considered that the possibility of a deterioration in rolling performance should be thoroughly considered.

  • A numerical procedure is described for predicting the dynamic structural responses of tension leg platforms(TLPs) in current and waves. The developed numerical approach is based on a combination of the three dimensional source distribution method and the dynamic structural analysis method, in which the superstructure of the TLPs is assumed to be flexible instead of rigid. The hydrodynamic interactions among TLP members, such as columns and pontoons, and the structural damping are included in the dynamic structural analysis. The equations of motion of a whole structure are formulated using element-fixed coordinate systems which have the origin at the nodes of the each hull element and move parallel to a space-fixed coordinate system. The dynamic structural responses of a TLP were analyzed in the case of including the current or not including the one in waves and the effects of current on the TLP were investigated.

  • A numerical procedure is described for predicting the motion and structural responses of tension leg platforms(TLPs) in waves. The developed numerical approach is based on a combination of a three dimensional source distribution method and the dynamic response analysis method, in which the superstructure of TLPs is assumed to be flexible instead of rigid. Restoring forces by hydrostatic pressure on the submerged surface of a TLP have been accurately calculated by excluding the assumption of the slender body theory. The hydrodynamic interactions among TLP members, such as columns and pontoons, and the structural damping are included in the motion and structural analysis. The equations of motion of a whole structure are formulated using element-fixed coordinate systems which have the orgin at the nodes of the each hull element and move parallel to a space-fixed coordinate system. Numerical results are compared with the experimental and numerical ones, which are obtained in the literature, concerning the motion and structural responses of a TLP in waves. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.
