The global performance of the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine in random waves with or without steady/dynamic winds is numerically simulated by using the turbine-floater-mooring fully coupled dynamic analysis program FAST-CHARM3D in time domain. The numerical simulations are based on the complete second-order diffraction/radiation potential formulations along with nonlinear viscous-drag force estimations at the body's instantaneous position. The sensitivity of hull motions and mooring dynamics with varying wave-kinematics extrapolation methods above MWL(mean-water level) and column drag coefficients is investigated. The effects of steady and dynamic winds are also illustrated. When dynamic wind is added to the irregular waves, it additionally introduces low-frequency wind loading and aerodynamic damping. The numerically simulated results for the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine by FAST-CHARM3D are also extensively compared with the DeepCWind model-test results by Technip/NREL/UMaine. Those numerical-simulation results have good correlation with experimental results for all the cases considered.
Clearances are essential for the assemblage of mechanisms to allow the relative motion between the joined bodies. This clearance exists due to machining tolerances, wear, material deformations, and imperfections, and it can worsen the mechanism performance when the precision and smoothly-working are intended. Energy is a subject which is less paid attention in the area of clearance. The effect of the clearance on the energy of a flexible slider-crank mechanism is investigated in this paper. A clearance exists in the joint between the slider and the coupler. The contact force model is based on the Lankarani and Nikravesh model and the friction force is calculated using the modified Coulomb's friction law. The hysteresis damping which has been included in the contact force model dissipates energy in clearance joints. The other source for the energy loss is the friction between the journal and the bearing. Initial configuration and crank angular velocity are changed to see their effects on the energy of the system. Energy diagrams are plotted for different coefficients of friction to see its influence. Finally, considering the coupler as a flexible body, the effect of flexibility on the energy of the system is investigated.

This paper studies the finite element modeling and analytical parameters for the numerical evaluation of dynamic stiffness of large foundation for shipboard equipments such as marine diesel engine. For the purpose, numerical method and procedure to evaluate the dynamic stiffness are established based on the impact test method, which are applied for the dynamic stiffness evaluation of a real diesel generator foundation of ship. Numerical investigations compared with the measured data are carried out to evaluate the effects of modeling ranges of ship substructure, finite element sizes, lower support structures and damping coefficients. From the results, modeling and analytical parameters for proper evaluation of dynamic stiffness of large foundation of shipboard equipment are suggested.

An efficient model for the dynamic analysis of caisson breakwaters under impulsive wave loadings is presented. The caisson structure is. regarded as a rigid body, and the rubble mound foundation is idealized as virtual added masses, springs, and dampers using the elastic half-space theory. The frequency-dependent hydrodynamic added mass and damping coefficients are considered by using the time memory functions and added mass at infinite frequency. To simulate the permanent sliding phenomenon of the caisson, the horizontal spring is modeled as a nonlinear spring with plastic behaviors. Comparisons with experimental results show that the present model gives fairly good results. Sensitivity analysis is performed for the relevant parameters affecting the dynamic responses of a caisson breakwater. Numerical experiments are also carried out to investigate the applicability to the prediction of permanent sliding distance and critical weight of the caisson.
This paper deals with vibration control of a small mount with MR(Magneto-Rheological) fluid as a functional fluid mount for precision equipment of automobiles. Damping and stiffness coefficients of the mount with MR fluid are changed by variations of the applied magnetic field strength. We present the robust control scheme, based on a conventional sliding mode control theory, for the design of a stable controller that is capable of vibration control due to various disturbances such as impact and periodic excitations, and is insensitive to dynamic properties of the mount. We got stable controller by using Lyapunov stability theory. The controller is then realized by using a semi-active control condition in simulations. Chattering problem of the sliding mode control is eliminated by saturation function instead of signum function. The sliding mode control with Lyapunov stability theory is superior to passive and Sky-Hook control in performance.
In order to analyze the vibration control effect of viscous damper in the concrete archaized buildings with lintel-column joints under seismic action, 3 specimens were tested under dynamic excitation. Two specimens with viscous damper were defined as the controlled component and one specimen without viscous damper was specified as the non-controlled component. The loading process and failure patterns were obtained from the test results. The failure characteristics, skeleton curves and mechanical behavior such as the load-displacement hysteretic loops, load carrying capacity, degradation of strength and rigidity, ductility and energy dissipation of the joints were analyzed. The results indicate that the load-bearing capacity of the controlled component is significantly higher than that of the non-controlled component. The former component has an average increase of 27.4% in yield load and 22.4% in ultimate load, respectively. Meanwhile, the performance of displacement ductility and the ability of energy dissipation for the controlled component are superior to those of the non-controlled component as well. Compared with non-controlled component, equivalent viscous damping coefficients are improved by 27.3%-30.8%, the average increase is 29.0% at ultimate load for controlled component. All these results reflect that the seismic performance of the controlled component is significantly better than that of the non-controlled component. These researches are helpful for practical application of viscous damper in the concrete archaizing buildings with lintel-column joints.
In this study, a wavelet-based covariance-driven system identification technique is proposed for damage assessment of structures under ambient excitation. Assuming the ambient excitation to be a white-noise process, the covariance computation is shown to be able to separate the effect of random excitation from the response measurement. Wavelet transform (WT) is then used to convert the covariance response in the time domain to the WT magnitude plot in the time-scale plane. The wavelet coefficients along the curves where energy concentrated are extracted and used to estimate the modal properties of the structure. These modal property estimations lead to the calculation of the stiffness matrix when either the spectral density of the random loading or the mass matrix is given. The predicted stiffness matrix hence provides a direct assessment on the possible location and severity of damage which results in stiffness alteration. To demonstrate the proposed wavelet-based damage assessment technique, a numerical example on a 3 degree-of-freedom (DOF) system and an experimental study on a three-story building model, which are all under a broad-band excitation, are presented. Both numerical and experimental results illustrate that the proposed technique can provide an accurate assessment on the damage location. It is however noted that the assessment of damage severity is not as accurate, which might be due to the errors associated with the mode shape estimations as well as the assumption of proportional damping adopted in the formulation.
A vessel/mooring/riser coupled dynamic analysis program in time domain is developed for the global motion simulation of a turret-moored, tanker based FPSO designed for 6000-ft water depth. The vessel global motions and mooring tension are simulated for the non-parallel wind-wave-current 100-year hurricane condition in the Gulf of Mexico. The wind and current forces and moments are estimated from the OCIMF empirical data base for the given loading condition. The numerical results are compared with the OTRC(Offshore Technology Research Center: Model Basin for Offshore Platforms in Texas A&M University) 1:60 model-testing results with truncated mooring system. The system's stiffness and line tension as well as natural periods and damping obtained from the OTRC measurement are checked through numerically simulated static-offset and free-decay tests. The global vessel motion simulations in the hurricane condition were conducted by varying lateral and longitudinal hull drag coefficients, different mooring and riser set up, and wind-exposed areas to better understand the sensitivity of the FPSO responses against empirical parameters. It is particularly stressed that the dynamic mooring tension can be greatly underestimated when truncated mooring system is used.
The magnetization dynamics was investigated by solving possible origins of overdamped susceptibility observed in ultra-soft magnetic amorphous thin films. The experimental high frequency spectrum and computational spectrum calculated from Gilbert's equation of motion were compared in order to find proper damping factor $\alpha{\approx}20$ and demagnetizing coefficients $D_{x}{\approx}D_{y}{\approx}D_{z}{\approx}0$ for ultra-soft magnetic films. A magnetization vortex mode was, then, proposed to explain the origin of the reversible susceptibility and other anomalies of the ultra-soft magnetic heterogeneous thin films. In this mode it is suggested that there occur, within the nanoscale structural features of the ultra-soft films, incoherent rotational spin motions that are highly damped by the energy transfer from short wavelength spin wave modes and local defect structure mode interactions.

Specification selection, Layout, specifications and combinations of Power Drives, and Ship motions were studied for FGPP(Floating Gas-fired Power Plants), which are still needed in areas such as the Caribbean, Latin America, and Southeast Asia where electricity is not sufficiently supplied. From this study, the optimal equipment layout in ships was derived. In addition, the difference between engine and turbine was verified through LCOE(Levelized Cost of Energy) comparison according to the type and combination of Power Drives. Analysis of Hs(Significant Height of wave) and Tp(spectrum Peak Period of wave) for places where this FGPP will be tested or applied enables design according to wave characteristics in Brazil and Indonesia. Normalized Sloshing Pressures of FGPP and LNG Carrier are verified using a sloshing analysis program, which is CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) software developed by ABS(American Bureau of Shipping). Power Transmission System is studied with Double bus with one Circuit Breaker Topology. A nd the CFD analysis allowed us to calculate linear roll damping coefficients for more accurate full load conditions and ballast conditions. Through RAO(Response Amplitude Operator) analysis, we secured data that could minimize the movement of ships according to the direction of waves and ship placement by identifying the characteristics of large movements in the beam sea conditions. The FGPP has been granted an AIP(Approval in Principle) from a classification society, the ABS.
