  • Phlegm-retention disease, which is called dameum(痰飮), is a kind of a pathologic secretion products, accumulated excessive water in a special part of a body. Urticaria is a common dermatopathy, coming under “eun-jin(隱疹)” in Korean herbal medicine. Headache and vertigo is a very common diseases in life. There are so many causes which induce uticaria, headache and vertigo. We experienced 31-year old woman case suffering from chronic urticaria, headache, vertigo with digestive disorder, nausea. We diagnosed those symptoms as dameum(痰飮). So we administered Jeongjeongamiyijintang-gamibang(正傳加味二陳湯加味方) to the urticaria, and Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang (半夏白朮天麻湯) to the headache, vertigo. They are both famous herbal medicines for treating dameum-related symptoms, because both of them contains Yijin-tang(二陳湯) which is the main Herbal medicine for dameum(痰飮). We suggest that dameun-related urticaria, headache, vertigo can be treated by preceding medicines.

Transepidermal water loss was measured over eight four the Korean twenties and thirties who don't have skin disease from March 14th, 2007 to March 16th 2007. We surveyed cubital fossa and cheek beside nose to measure transepidermal water loss and used vapometer. Result : After analyzed data, we concluded that cheek showed higher transepidermal water loss than cuital fossa. At cheek, the thirties had higher transepidermal water loss than the twenties. The male got higher transepidermal water loss than the female at cheek and in the average. And temperature and humidity effected on transepidermal water loss. Conclusion: In our study, it was observed that temperature and humidity effected on transepidermal water loss. In traditional korean medicine, the inbalance of cold(寒), heat(熱), dryness(燥), wetness(濕) makes many diseases and the inbalance of them induces dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow. Dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow make skin diseases made by abnormal skin barrier function in many ways. So we need to study dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow to take care of patients who have abnormal skin barrier function.

  • Many of the diseases that occur in a life being are either closely related to water, or they occur by loss or deterioration of water metabolism. There are six parts of study on this subject in ${\ulcorner}$Dongeubogam${\lrcorner}$. The parts are, the part of Jinaek the part of Dameum the part of Sobyeon the part of Bujong the part of Changman and the part of Seub. In these parts, it mentions loss of perspiration, abnormal urination, edema, abdominal dropsy, formation of abnormal body fluid and intrusion of dampness into the body and etc as the abnormal water metabolism. Loss of perspiration and urination is a process of eliminating the dampness in the body. Perspiration would be the abnormality of yanghwa[陽化]. Urination would be the loss of eumhwa[陰化]. Eum[飮] is the fluid accumulated in the body that failed to go through the process of Cihwa[氣化]. Dam[痰] is formed when the body fluid is heated by the smoking-fire. Meanwhile, the dampness occurs when the water penetrates into the bones, muscles and joints. Edema and abdominal dropsy are both outcomes of accumulated body fluid. Edema is the liquified body fluid congested on the surface or the peripheral ends of the body. Abdominal dropsy is congestion of fluid, that lost the characteristic of blood due to blood deterioration, in the abdominal part.
