Mathematical Description and Prognosis of Cell Recovery after Thermoradiation Action

  • A mathematical model for the synergistic interaction of physical and chemical environmental agents was suggested for quantitative prediction of irreversibly damaged cells after combined exposures. The model took into account the synergistic interaction of agents and was based on the supposition that additional effective damages responsible for the synergy are irreversible and originated from an interaction of ineffective sublesions. The experimental results regarding the irreversible component of radiation damage of diploid yeast cells simultaneous exposed to heat with ionizing radiation ($^{60}Co$) or UV light (254 nm) are presented. It was shown that the cell ability of the liquid holding recovery decreased with an increase in the temperature, at which the exposure was occurred. A good correspondence between experimental results and model prediction was demonstrated. The importance of the results obtained for the interpretation of the mechanism of synergistic interaction of various environmental factors is discussed.

인삼단백질의 방사선 방어작용 (Radioprotective Effects of Ginseng Proteins)

  • Ginseng proteins were isolated and partially purified to obtain two fractions, namely GI and GII. Radioprotective effects of these fractions were examined on $\gamma$-ray irradiated ICR mice by observing 30-day survival rates after irradiation. Also investigated were the effects of GI fraction on the recovery of radiation damage. As the results, the GI fraction showed strong protection against radiation indicated by the increment of 30-day survival rates, while the GII fraction did not. The GI fraction enhanced the recovery of body and splenic weights and increased the amount of DNA in liver significantly. It also helped to recover the damage done on erythrocytes by increasing the number to normal in short period, however, it had no effect on the recovery of leukocyte counts.

Design and Implementation of Damaged Video File Recovery Tool using Container Format Structure

  • Video files of video devices such as black box and CCTV may be damaged due to repetitive file read / write and physical environment factors. Even though there are available parts of video information, it may happen that playback can't be performed due to damage of some information. To playback the remaining video information normally, it is necessary to recover damaged areas of the files. For this, it is necessary to accurately check the damage range of the files. In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of a tool which detects damaged areas of a video file and recovers the usable area of the file to playback. The proposed tool can analyze and recover without additional information by analyzing common information of video container format and can check detailed damaged ranges with chunks. It is possible to perform recovery just only with the target file and reference file without any other information such as codec specification.

Smart Honeycomb Sandwich Panels With Damage Detection and Shape Recovery Functions

  • In this research, optical fiber sensors and shape memory alloys (SMA) were incorporated into sandwich panels for development of a smart honeycomb sandwich structure with damage detection and shape recovery functions. First, small-diameter fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors were embedded in the adhesive layer between a CFRP face-sheet and an aluminum honeycomb core. From the change in the reflection spectrum of the FBG sensors, the debonding between the face-sheet and the core and the deformation of the face-sheet due to impact loading could be well detected. Then, the authors developed the SMA honeycomb core and bonded CFRP face-sheets to the core. When an impact load was applied to the panel, the cell walls of the core were buckled and the face-sheet was bent. However, after the panel was heated over the reverse transformation finish temperature of the SMA, the core buckling disappeared and the deflection of the face-sheet was relieved. Hence the bending stiffness of the panel could be recovered.

The effect of aronia, montmorency, and Prunus mume supplementation on blood fatigue factors and muscle damage enzymes after running 10 km

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of intake of aronia, montmorency, and Prunus mume on 10 km endurance exercise by investigating changes in blood lactate, ammonia, creatine kinase (CK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and eventually to recommend them as ergogenic aids, which are effective for recovering from exercise fatigue and muscle damage. The subjects were divided into a P. mume intake group, an aronia intake group, a montmorency intake group, and a control group. Blood samples were taken from the brachial vein at rest, and at 0, 30 min, and 24 hr after running to measure recovery status. All data were analyzed by a two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance using SPSS. The results are summarized as follows: The changes in blood ammonia and LDH concentration following 10 km of running were not significantly different among the groups. However, lactate and CK recovery ratio increased significantly in the aronia and montmorency groups compared to those in the P. mume and control groups. In particular, CK concentration was significantly different in the montmorency group compared to that in the other groups. These results suggest that the effects of aronia and montmorency are associated with improved recovery from muscle fatigue and damage induced by highly intensive exercise, endurance exercise, or overtraining. In particular, montmorency is recommended as an ergogenic aid to inhibit muscle pain resulting from high-intensity endurance exercise.

강연선의 국부적 손상에 따른 응력 회복길이 분석 연구 (Study on Stress Recovery Length of 7-Wire Strand due to Local Damage)

  • 본 연구는 PSC(Post Tensioned Concrete) 교량 및 사장교(Cable Stayed Bridge) 등에 많이 적용되는 강연선의 국부적 손상에 따른 응력 회복길이를 분석하였다. 강연선은 PC 강선(Prestressing Strand)을 여러 줄을 꼬은 강재이며, 재료의 특성상 준공후 지속적으로 손상이 발생하며 부식 등이 주요 손상원인이다. 이에 따른 손상에 따른 성능저하가 발생하지만, 구조적인 특성상 케이블 내부의 손상 정도 및 응력 변화 패턴을 파악하기 어렵다. 교량에 적용된 케이블의 경우 설치 형상에 따라 채수 등에 따라 부식에 취약한 부분이 발생하며, 이로 인해 국부적인 손상이 발생할 수 있다. 본 연구는 교량 Post-Tensioning 또는 케이블 사장재에 주로 적용되는 강연선(7-Wire Strand)의 국부적 손상에 따른 성능저하 경향 및 응력 회복길이를 FEA 해석을 통하여 분석하였다. 향후 본 연구에서 구축하고자 하는 해석모델을 활용하여 PSC 교량 및 사장교 케이블 등의 안전성 평가 및 잔존수명 예측에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

The effect of annealing method on dopant-activation and damage-recovery in ion-shower-doped Poly-Si using $PH_3/H_2$

  • Ion shower doping using a source gas of $PH_3/H_2$ was conducted on excimer-laser-annealed (ELA) Poly-Si. As-implanted damage is accumulated more and more with the increase of an acceleration voltage and a doping time. In this study we found that dopant-activation is relatively a rapid kinetic-process while damage-recovery is not.

학교 시설물의 재난유형 분석 및 현물보상 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of Disaster Type for School Facilities and the Application Propriety of In-kind Compensation)

  • The school space is a place for learning activities and community activities, and it is used as a shelter for various disasters. Recently, the frequency and magnitude of damages of school facilities due to various disasters are increasing, and similar accidents occur repeatedly every year, causing enormous damage to school classes. Furthermore, damage to school facilities will require considerable time and safety confirmation measures to restore disaster and normalize the class. In this regards, based on the questionnaire survey on the difficulties and improvement measures of the disaster recovery work of the school safety manager, we propose the application of in-kind compensation for damage to school facilities to ensure rapid disaster recovery, simplification of administrative procedures, and quality of restoration work.

해저침적 HNS 회수용 기계장치의 성능요건 기반 개념설계 (Conceptual Design of Mechanical System for Recovery of Seabed-Deposited Hazardous and Noxious Substances Based on Performance Requirements)

  • 위험유해물질(HNS, Hazardous and Noxious Substances)은 해상운송 과정에서 다양한 사고에 노출되어 있어 많은 양이 바다에 유출될 우려가 있다. HNS 유출에 따른 해양환경의 손상은 유류 유출에 의한 손상보다도 훨씬 큰 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히 해저로 침강하여 침적되는 HNS는 해저생태계에 돌이키기 어려운 피해를 주게 되므로, 반드시 회수되어야 한다. 해저로부터 HNS를 회수하기 위해서는 해저침적 HNS에 대한 정확한 탐지, 안정화 처리 및 회수를 위한 절차와 장비가 필요하다. 그 중에서도 기계적 회수장치를 개발하기 위해서는 성능지표를 이용하여 성능요건을 선정하고, 이를 토대로 기계적 회수장치에 대한 개념설계가 이루어져야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 해저침적 HNS의 회수 절차에서 요구되는 기계적 회수장치에 대한 개념설계안을 제시하였다. 개념설계안으로 해저침적 HNS를 회수하기 위한 기본 시나리오를 제시하고, 자체적 밀폐 성능을 가지는 흡인 기초를 활용하는 방안을 채택하였다. 기계적 회수장치는 흡인 기초, 오염 방지, 펌프 시스템, 제어 시스템, 모니터링 장비, 위치정보 장비, 이송 장비, 탱크로 구성된다. 이러한 개념설계안은 기계적 회수장치의 부품 및 형상을 결정하는 기본설계에 반영되어 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

재해연보 기반 지역특성을 반영한 강풍피해예측함수 개발 : 경상지역을 중심으로 (Development of Estimation Functions for Strong Winds Damage Reflecting Regional Characteristics Based on Disaster Annual Reports : Focused on Gyeongsang Area)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구에서는 재난관리(예방-대비-대응-복구) 중 대비차원으로 활용하고자 강풍피해예측함수를 개발하였다. 연구방법: 본 연구에서 제안하는 강풍피해예측함수는 재해연보이력, 피해당시 기상자료 그리고 지역특성을 고려하였다. 기상자료는 기상청에서 관측한 풍속과 기온, 피해이력에 해당하는 통계자료는 재해연보, 그리고 지역특성을 반영하기 위한 요소로는 재해연보 상 수록된 복구비, 인구, 비닐하우스 면적, 농가수 등을 활용하였다. 연구결과: 본 연구에서 개발한 함수식은 과거에 발생한 강풍피해이력을 기반으로 예측되는 기상인자와 지역특성을 반영하였으며, 단시간에 피해규모를 예측할 수 있다. 결론: 본 연구에서 개발한 강풍피해예측함수는 정책결정자들의 의사결정, 비상인력 및 방재자원의 배치 등과 같은 효율적인 재난관리에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
