  • Community noise has been great concerned in public. A traffic noise from a road or a railway has affected too mush damage on quiet living environment. In this paper, a measured noise signal on a street has been applied to extract a noise source and a path by using a complex cepstrum. An example shows that the waveform of the source and the path could be separated if a temporal windowing is properly applied.

  • In this paper, moving a fragile object from an initial point to a specific location in the minimum time without damage is studied. In order to achieve this goal, initially, the maximum acceleration and velocity ranges are specified. These ranges can be dynamically generate on the planned path by the manipulator. The path can be altered by considering the geometrical constraints. Later, considering the impulsive force constraint on the object, the range of maximum acceleration and velocity are obtained to preserve object safety while the manipulator is carrying it along the curved path. Finally, a time-optimal trajectory is planned within the maximum allowable range of acceleration and velocity. This time-optimal trajectory planning can be applied to real applications and is suitable for both continuous and discrete paths.

  • Almost all power plant boiler has temperature distribution nonuniformity problem in heat transfer tube flow path. It can cause hot spot damage of superheated or reheated heat transfer section and reduce maintenance schedule when nonuniformity is severe. There are two solutions for improvement temperature nonuniformity. one is change of gas flow distribution of gas path and the other is contorl steam flow in tube bank. Of course, first method is very difficulty to apply but second method is'nt. In this paper, control steam flow is used to solve temperature nonuniformity of power plant boiler.

  • Inclined surface milling in the mould and die industries is one of the most commonly needed cutting process. For the variety and complexity of cutting characteristics in various cutting condition, it is difficult to select a optimal tool path orientation. Especially, when the cutting process becomes unstable, it induces self-exited vibrations, a frequent cause of poor tool life, rough surface finish, damage to the workpiece and the machine tool itself, and excessive down time. The comparative results through FFT analysis in this study provide a guideline for the selection tool path orientation.

  • Disassembly of products at their end-of-life (EOL) is a prerequisite for recycling or remanufacturing, since most products should be disassembled before being recycled or remanufactured as secondary parts or materials. In disassembly sequence planning of EOL products, considered are the uncertainty issues, i.e., defective parts or joints in an incoming product, disassembly damage, and imprecise net profits and costs. The paper deals with the problem of determining the disassembly level and corresponding sequence, with the objective of maximizing the overall profit under uncertainties in disassembly cost and/or revenue. The solution is represented as the longest path on a directed acyclic graph where parameter (arc length) uncertainties are modeled in the form of intervals. And, a heuristic algorithm is developed to find a path with the minimum worst case regret, since the problem is NP-hard. Computational experiments are carried out to show the performance of the proposed algorithm compared with the mixed integer programming model and Conde's heuristic algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is fatigue damage assessment for large sized casting parts (hub and mainframe) of the 3MW offshore wind turbine by computer simulation. Hub and mainframe durability assessment is necessary because wind turbine have to guarantee for 20 years. Fatigue life evaluation must be considered all of fatigue load conditions as the components are wind load transmission path. Palmgren-Miner linear damage accumulation hypothesis is applied for fatigue life estimation with stress-life approach. S-N curve for the spheroid graphite cast iron EN-GJS-400-18-LT is derived according to durability guidelines. Reduction factors were applied for survival probability, surface roughness, material quality and partial safety factor according to Germanischer Lloyd rules. To calculate fatigue damage, stress tensors, extracted from the unity load calculation from ANSYS is multiplied with time track of fatigue loads extracted from GH bladed. Damage accumulation is performed with all of fatigue load conditions at each finite element nodes. In this study maximum nodal damage value is under 1.0. casted parts are safe. • The structural intensities have been applied to understand a source point and the path of vibrational energy flows in interested structures by many researchers. In this paper, a feasibility study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of a damaged beam with a inflicted open crack using the structural intensities. The damaged beam was taken as a continuous system with equivalent bending stiffness and the flexural vibrations were only considered in numerical simulation and experiments. A four(4)-transducer array was used to measure the flexural vibrations of the beam and the structural intensities were estimated by means of cross spectral density method. As a result, the magnitude changes of the structural intensities could be observed in the vicinity of the damage location and a damage index was newly proposed to identify the damage zone. It has been confirmed that the measurement of the structural intensities was simple and effective method to find out the damage zone.

  • In a gas-turbine engine, fan blades in flow path are confronted with many kinds of loading. The study of the excited force by the wake of struts has proposed and the possibility of fatigue failure about rotating fan blades by the excited force at the steady state is evaluated. Equations of the excited force of wakes has been derived at the steady state and the maximum pressure distributions measured at the transient state are proposed. Dynamic characteristics and the fatigue strength of fan blades by experimental test were obtained. To evaluate HCF(High Cycle Fatigue) damage of fan blades, FEM analysis was performed with a steady state harmonic response, which was followed by high cycle fatigue damage factor from goodman diagram.

  • The regulatory periodic inspection program (PSI) conducted at every overhaul period is the most important process for confirming the safety of nuclear power plants. The PSI for operating nuclear power plants in Korea mainly consist of component level performance check that had been developed based on deterministic approach putting the same degree of importance to all the inspection items. This inspection methodology is likely to be effective for preoperational inspection. However, once the plant is put into service, the PSI must be focused on whether to minimize the risk of accident using defense-in-depth concept and risk insight. The incorporation of defense-in-depth concept and risk insight into the deterministic based safety inspection has not been well studied so far. In this study, two track approaches are proposed to make sure that core damage be avoided: one is to secure success path and the other to block the failure path in a specific event tree of PSA. The investigation shows how to select safety important components and how to set up inspection group to ensure that core damage would not occur for a given initiating event, which results in strengthening defense-in-depth level 3.

  • Multi-span steel-concrete composite (SCC) bridges are very sensitive to earthquake loading. Extensive damage may occur not only in the substructures (piers), which are expected to yield, but also in the other components (e.g., deck, abutments) involved in carrying the seismic loads. Current seismic codes allow the design of regular bridges by means of linear elastic analysis based on inelastic design spectra. In bridges with superstructure transverse motion restrained at the abutments, a dual load path behavior is observed. The sequential yielding of the piers can lead to a substantial change in the stiffness distribution. Thus, force distributions and displacement demand can significantly differ from linear elastic analysis predictions. The objectives of this study are assessing the influence of piers-deck stiffness ratio and of soil-structure interaction effects on the seismic behavior of continuous SCC bridges with dual load path, and evaluating the suitability of linear elastic analysis in predicting the actual seismic behavior of these bridges. Parametric analysis results are presented and discussed for a common bridge typology. The response dependence on the parameters is studied by nonlinear multi-record incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). Comparisons are made with linear time history analysis results. The results presented suggest that simplified linear elastic analysis based on inelastic design spectra could produce very inaccurate estimates of the structural behavior of SCC bridges with dual load path.
