This study aimed to evaluate the growth, yield, and grain quality characteristics of rice varieties that were subjected to water stress during the tillering stage. We also sought to identify whether water stress could be indicated via the plants' response to chlorophyll fluorescence. In this study, we induced water stress by intentionally cutting off water for 30 days, starting 15 days after transplanting the rice varieties to a greenhouse. We analyzed nine rice varieties, including Ilpum, which is the most frequently cultivated variety in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The control group was planted in a paddy field where irrigation was entirely dependent on rainfall. Our results revealed that the heading stage of the nine studied varieties occurred approximately ten days earlier in the rain shelter than in the field. Moreover, the rice yield, head rice rate, and palatability score decreased by 18.6%, 17.1%, and 8.3%, respectively, while protein content increased by 20.2% compared with the control group. The Saenuri and Haimi varieties showed the lowest reduction in yield under the water stress conditions, while the Daebo and Samkwang varieties showed the highest reduction in yield. The chlorophyll fluorescence response after re-irrigation was measured between July 30th and August 17th. The ratio of variable fluorescence to maximum chlorophyll fluorescence (FV/FM) values failed to recover to their baseline values, resulting in either no change or a reduction in fluorescent response, even after re-irrigation of Daebo and Samkwang varieties. These results can be utilized as empirical data for drought-affected farms to select resistant varieties that can respond to spring drought in the southern plains of Gyeongsangbuk-do.
The Geodo granodiorite intruded into the Joseon Supergroup is fine-grained at the marginal part, and medium-grained and more leucocratic at the central part. The Quartz monzonite porphyry intruded inte Precambrian granite and Geodo granodiorite has abundant plagioclase phenocryst. The Imog granite intruded into the Yulri Group and the Joseon Supergroup is mediumgrained biotite granite with partly pinkish feldspar phenocryst. The K/Ar ages obtained from the biotite of the Geodo granodiorite and Imog granite are Early ($111{\pm}1{\sim}107{\pm}1$ Ma) and Late ($93{\pm}1{\sim}92{\pm}1$ Ma) Cretaceous, respectively. The K/Ar sericite age of the quartz-sericite zone of the lower Jangsan quartzite occuring in the western area gave much younger age (about 170 Ma) than that of the Jangsan quartzite, that might be reset due to the regional metamorphism of the Daebo orogeny. The granitic rocks of the area are felsic to mafic, metaluminous to peraluminous, calc-alkalic (alkali-lime index${\fallingdotseq}$ 57) and I-type (magnetite-series) based on the chemical data_ And they appear to have been fractionated at the order of Geodo granodiorite, Quartz monzonite porphyry and Imog granite. In terms of mineralogy, geochemistry and K/Ar biotite age, a rock suite of monzodiorite, quartz monzodiorite and quartz monzonite-granodiorite in the Geodo stock was fractionally differentiated from a magmatic body from its margin to inward.
In order to make economic and geological evaluation of coal in Korea, proximate and ultimate analyses were carried out as well as coal petrological studies such as maceral analyses, vitrinite reflectance and sporinite fluorescence measurement. The coeffcient of correlation between each factor of both conventional utilization and coal petrological parameters were studied as in Table 5 and 6. Their conclusions were as follow: (1) for anthracite, the good parameters of coal rank are mean vitrinite reflectance, carbon content, hydrogen content and H/C atomic ratio: (2) for brown coal and sub-bituminous coal, the good parameters of coal rank are carbon content, calorific value, moisture content, hydrogen content, oxygen content and O/C atomic ratio as well as vitrinite reflectance and sporinite fluorescence. An attempt is made to infer the coalforming environment by utilization of coal petrological analyses and to make comparison of coal analyses with proximate and ultimate analyses throughout the island arc region including Japan, Philippine and Indonesia and continental region including USA, Canada and Australia. As a result, meceral composition of Paleozoic and Mesozoic anthracite are similar to that of the Paleozoic continental coals, which were formed under dry conditions or low water table, but the coalification degree suddenly increased during Daebo orogeny (middle Jurassic to lower Cretaceous). The Tertiary coal resembles those of Tertiary island arc region coal characterized by higher calorific value, volatile matter content and H/C atomic ratio and by the formation of coal under wet conditions or higher water table.
Gabbroic rocks in which titanomagnetite orebodies are embedded were emplaced in Precambrian metasedimentary rocks. Hornblende K-Ar ages for equigranula and gneissic gabbros were obtained to be $1021.8{\pm}14.5$ Ma and $1468.4{\pm}20.8$ Ma, respectively. Biotite-granite has an age of 116.4 Ma, which has corresponded to Daebo granite. Amphibole minerals of the gabbroic rock and the magnetite orebodies belong to calcic amphibole group such as ferroan pargasite, pargasite, and ferro-pargasite. The gabbroic rocks have unusually high content of $TiO_2$ ranging from 0.88 to 6.03 wt.% with an average value of 3.46 wt.% as compared to normal gabbroic rock with 1.32 wt.% in $TiO_2$. Incompatible elements such as Ba and Sr of the gabbros are negatively correlated with $SiO_2$. In contrast, Co and Cr have a positive correlation with $SiO_2$, suggesting a normal differentiation trend of gabbroic magma.
Paleomagnetic data have been obtained from the Lower Triassic Tonggo formation which is exposed in the E-W trending Baekunsan syncline comprising the Pyongan Supergroup in eastern Korea. Two ancient components of magnetization are recovered in this formation by detailed thermal demagnetization: a post-folding component and a pre-folding component The post-folding component ($D/I=58.8/55.5^{\circ}$) is normally magnetized and appears to acquire in the Cretaceous Normal Superchron. It is a magnetic signature of the Daebo Orogeny and has been rotated clockwise since this magnetization has been acquired, in common with the main synclinal axis. The pre-folding component ($D/I=1.1/19.4^{\circ}$, Paleopole at $306.1^{\circ}E$, $63.2^{\circ}N$) passes fold and reversal tests and is inferred to be a post-depositional or early chemical diagenetic remanence of Lower-Middle Triassic age. This paleopole corresponds only with the Lower Triassic poles from the North China Block: it is removed from the contemporary poles from the South China Block. If the result of this study is corrected for the clockwise rotation deduced from the Cretaceous overprint, the enhanced agreement with the Lower Triassic poles from the North China block can be achieved. Therefore, a first order correlation between the Korean Peninsula and North China at least since Lower Triassic times is identified in this study.
Igneolls rocks of the Hamyang area consist of Hamyang foliated granites and hornblende diorite. Hamyang foliated granites are classified into four rock types in terms of mineral composition and texture. The four rock types are foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite, foliated porphrytic granodiorite, foliated fine biotite granodiorite and foliated leuco granite. Petrochemical data of these rocks suggest that Hamyang foliated granites is calc-alkali rock series of differentiated products of cogenetic magma by fractional crystallization. Igneous rocks of studied area correspond to I-type, peraluminous and calc alkali rock series. Rb-Sr age and $Sr^{87}/Sr^{86}$ initial ratio for foliated prophrytic granodiorite is $200{\pm}Ma$and $0.711{\pm}0.0037$, respectively. K-Ar(hornblende) age of hornblende diorite is $179{\pm}9Ma$. These data come to an coincidence with Igneous activity of South Korea which were proposed by O.J. Kim(1975), that is, they correspond to Hamyang foliated granites of products of Songrim Disturbance, and to hornblende diorite of Daebo Orogeny.
Palemagnetic study on the Deadong Super Group in the Mungyong area has been carried out to obtain the direction of NRM and virtual geomagnetic pole(VGP), and to investigate geomagnetic stratigraphy and geotectonic evolution. Twenty eight core specimens from five sites in Dangog and Bongmyongsan Formations yield magnetically stable results by thermal demagnetization test. Mean declination and inclination of Dangog and Bongmyongsan formations are $52.4^{\circ}E$ and $-57.3^{\circ}$, respectively, which indicate reversal polarity. VGP is located at $1.2^{\circ}N$ in latitude and $269.4^{\circ}E$ in longitude, which is quite different from those of other contemporary formations in China. This suggests that the study area has suffered from differnt tectonic movement caused by Daebo Orogeny occurred in the Korean Peninsula during post-Daedong and pre-Kyongsang Systems. As compared VGP of Daedong Super Group in the Mungyong area with wordwide Mesozoic paleomagnetic polarity stratigraphy, it is correlated with the reverse Epoch in the Graham normal interval. This suggests that the time of formations of Dangog and Bongmyongsan is in the age of 190-195 my.
Honam Shear Zone is a mylonite zone approximately parallel to the NE-SW trend located southern part of Korea peninsula. Geologic ages and petrogenesis of foliated granites in this zone are as follows: Igneous rocks of this zone are composed of granite gneiss, Paleozoic granites, Songrim granites, Jurassic granites and Cretaceous granites. Foliated granites show deformed phase of Paleozoic and Songrim granites during Daebo Orogeny. And isotopic ages obtained from foliated granites are early Permian to late Triassic period (276~200 Ma). Most of foliated granite masses are igneous complex consisting of a series of differential product of cogenetic magma. The individual rock mass of foliated granites plotted on Harker diagram shows mostly similar trend of calc-alkali series. REE diagram indicates that LREE amount of foliated granites are more enriched than HREE and negative Eu anomalies of them are weaker than those of the other granites. From these data, we suggest the rocks are generated from continental margin under syntectonic environment. Original magma type of foliated granites correspond to I-type, syn-collision type and Hercyano type. In compressive stress field between Ogcheon folded belt and Youngnam massif, foliated granites had formed due to mylonitic deformation. Those facts indicate that magma of foliated granites would had been generated by melting in lower crust or contamination in upper mantle.
The Okdong Fault is situated in Okdong-Hamchang area, the central part of Korea. The area consists of Precambrian gneisses and granitoids, Paleozoic clastic and carbonate rocks, and Mesozoic clastic rocks and igneous intrusives. The Okdong Fault is situated along contact boundary between the lowermost Cambrian Basal Quartzite and Precambrian basements. Mylonites occur as narrow zone which is extended over 100km and is restricted to within 10m-30m along the Okdong Fault. The main features of mylonites are quartz mylonite derived from Cambrian Basal Quartzite and mylonitic granitoids from Precambrian granitoids. Movement sense is deduced as a sinistral strike-slip movement with evidence of rotation of sheared porphyroclasts, rotation of fragments and S/C-bands. The mylonite zone has been reactivated as fault which reveals oblique-slip movement. The fault resurges as faults which reveals normal(to the NW) and reverse(to the SE) dip-slip movement. Normal faults are dominant in the northern and southern part and reverse or thrust faults are dominant in the central part of the Okdong Fault. The thrust movement can be correlated with the Daebo Orogeny of Jurassic Period. Granites and dyke rocks intruded into Paleozoic and Precambrian rocks during Cretaceous Period.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the improvement of symptoms by Korean medicine in acute hemorrhagic infarction. Method: The patient was diagnosed with a cerebral infarction of the right temporal lobe accompanied by cerebral hemorrhage of the left basal ganglia. He did not receive intravenous thrombolytic treatment.
