  • In this study, we modified the conventional tensile split Hopkinson bar(TSHB) apparatus typically used for the high strength steel to evaluate the tensile deformation behavior of soft metallic sheet materials under high strain rates. Stress-strain curves of high purity single and multi-crystalline materials were obtained using this experimental procedure. Grain morphology and initial crystallographic orientation were characterized by EBSD(Electron Backscattered Diffraction) method measured in a FE-SEM(Field emission-scanning electron microscopy). The fractured surfaces were observed by using optical microscopy. The relationship between plastic deformation of aluminum crystalline materials under high-strain rates and the initial microstructure and the crystallographic orientations has been addressed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect that three resin indexing materials had on the distortion of split cast in the procedures of solder indexing and block fabrication. The specimen had two cylinders and connecting bar Two cylinders were a reference cylinder and a test cylinder that were machined precisely and placed on metal base. The total of specimens were 30 and they were divided into 3 groups according to the resin indexing materials : Acrylic $solder^{(R)}$, G-C Pattern $resin^{(R)},\;Z-100^{(R)}$. The relative coordinates (X, Y, Z) of centroids of both cylinders were measured by using 3-D cool dinates measuring machine. The value of indexing distortion was obtained after application of indexing material, and the value of the block distortion was obtained after fabrication of soldering block, and the value of total distortion was a value sum of indexing distortion and block distortion. Intercentroidal linear distortion ${(\sqrt{X^{'2}+Y^{'2}+Z^{'2}}-{\sqrt{X^2+Y^2+Z^2)}$ and global distortion $(\sqrt{{(X^'-X)}^2+{(Y^'-Y)}^2+{(Z^'-Z)}^2}$ were calculated from data of coordinates of centroids at each measuring stages. The results of this study were as belows ; 1. The intercentroidal distance between the split casts was reduced by indexing distortion and increased by block distortion. 2. The indexing global distortion between the split casts was smaller than block global distortion. 3. The intercentroidal linear distortion and the global distortion were no significant difference between indexing materials.

  • Specifically designed mandrel is needed to expand tube of the heat exchanger with inner grooves. Configuration of the expanded tube depends upon the shape and feeding velocity of the mandrel. 3D simulation software LS-DYNA was used to obtain optimum design conditions of the mandrel. We show how configuration of the expanded tube varies with different design parameters such as the approaching angle, diameter , and the feeding velocity of the mandrel. Material property data for analysis were obtained through experiments with SHPB ( Split Hopkinson Pressure Bars ).

  • An experiment has been carried out to investigate the aerodynamic effect of surface roughness on the characteristics of the turbulent separation and reattaching flow downstream of a backward-facing step. The distributions of boundary layer parameters, forward-flow fraction and turbulent stresses in the region near the reattachment point are measured with a split film sensor. It is demonstrated that the streamwise distributions of the forward-flow fraction in the recirculation and reattachment regions are similar, independent of the roughness. The reattachment length is found to be only weakly affected by the roughness. It is also shown that the velocity profile on the rough surface approaches to that of the equilibrium turbulent boundary layer faster than that on the smooth surface in the redeveloping region after reattachment.

  • This study aims at finding appropriate adhesive conditions with special regard the material of 'fusible padding cloth inter ling' was frequently used for leather. As for leather material, pig suede, sheep suede were selected and drum dyed, cow split, napa have also been used. Mixed spinning non-woven fabric (polyester $50\%$, nylon $50\%$) were used as for padding cloth. Experimental appearance has been observed under the following adhesive conditions: Temperature of press were devided four levers; $120^{\circ}C$, $130^{\circ}C$, $140^{\circ}C$, $150^{\circ}C$, respectively. Adhesive time has been limited 5, 10, 15 second each. And the pressure has been conditioned as $0.2kg/cm^2$ continuously. After all this experiment, it was discovered that the material which had long contact with low temperature conditions has similar adhesive power to material that has short contact with high temperature conditions. There is a great difference according to the leather's dying process, the finishing method of the cloth, and the part of leather surface. The best condition for suede are $140^{\circ}C$, $150^{\circ}C$, at 10 seconds. and for D/D, NAPA, $130^{\circ}C$, at 10 seconds. Although the conditions of $150^{\circ}C$, at 15 seconds was possible for split, the process time can be shortened according to the increase of temperature.

  • This paper describes a low power asynchronous successive approximation register (SAR) type 12b analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for biomedical applications in a 0.35 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The digital-to-analog converter (DAC) uses a capacitive split-arrays consisting of 6-b main array, an attenuation capacitor C and a 5-b sub array for low power consumption and small die area. Moreover, splitting the MSB capacitor into sub-capacitors and an asynchronous SAR reduce power consumption. The measurement results show that the proposed ADC achieved the SNDR of 68.32 dB, the SFDR of 79 dB, and the ENOB (effective number of bits) of 11.05 bits. The measured INL and DNL were 1.9LSB and 1.5LSB, respectively. The power consumption including all the digital circuits is 6.7 ${\mu}W$ at the sampling frequency of 100 KHz under 3.3 V supply voltage and the FoM (figure of merit) is 49 fJ/conversion-step.

  • This study presents a new, simple method for improving the front-to-back (F/B) ratio of a microstrip patch antenna. The back radiation of the microstrip patch antenna is reduced by removing some metallic parts around the ground plane and placing a new soft-surface configuration, consisting of an array of stand-up split-ring resonators on a bare dielectric substrate near the two ground plane edges. Compared to the F/B ratio of a conventional microstrip patch antenna with a full ground plane of the same size, our proposed microstrip patch antenna experimentally achieves an improved F/B ratio of 9.6 dB.

  • We have presented the electrical properties of the quantum wire fabricated by split gate on GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures by using the Shubnikov de Haas oscillation and quantum Hall effect measurements. We observed the 1D properties of the sample as increasing gate voltage. The misfit between quantum Hall plateau and minima in Shubnikov do Haas oscillations are interpreted as Landauer-B$"{u}$ tikker formula based on the edge state transport.port.

  • The missile for this study has shown different natural frequency characteristics depending on the test conditions; natural frequencies obtained from its flight test are higher than those in its ground test. It was found that the hinged joints connecting front airframe to rear one had the nonlinear stiffness and caused the missile to show very complex dynamic characteristics. The angular stiffness at hinged joints was calculated using 3D finite element analysis, and it was verified that there was a highly nonlinear relationship between angular stiffness and external load. Natural frequencies calculated considering the nonlinearity of angular stiffness were nearly the same as test results. Through this study, the dynamic characteristics of a missile having split airframes with hinged joints could be clearly identified and a way of maintaining its natural frequencies consistent was generated.
