  • This paper presents the effects of free-stream turbulence on streamwise surface pressure fluctuations on two-dimensional rectangular cylinders. Particular attention is given to possible effects of turbulence integral scale on fluctuation and peak pressures. The mean, standard deviation, peak pressure coefficients, spectra and cross-correlation of fluctuating pressures were measured to investigate the nature of the separation and reattachment phenomenon in turbulent flows over a wide range of turbulence intensity and integral scale.

  • Three-dimensional numerical analysis of the flow around rectangular cylinders with various side ratios, D/H, from 0.2 to 2.0 is carried out for Reynolds number of 1000 by using multi-directional finite difference method in multi-grid. The predicted results are well compared with the experimental data. It is found that fluid dynamics characteristics alternate between high pressure mode. and low pressure mode of the base pressure for rectangular cylinder of D/H=0.2-0.6.

  • We consider del Pezzo surfaces with du Val singularities. We'll prove that a del Pezzo surface X with du Val singularities has a $-K_X-polar$ cylinder if and only if there exist tiger such that the support of this tiger does not contain anti-canonical divisor. Also we classify all del Pezzo surfaces X such that X has not any cylinders.

  • A wide band design method of an electromagnetic wave absorber with square ferrite cylinders in the second layer, which has very wide band frequency characteristics, is proposed and discussed. A theoretical model using the equivalent material constants method is also evaluated and proposed for its accuracy by comparison with Hashin-Shtrikman formulas. Based on the developed model, wide band electromagnetic wave absorbers with excellent reflective frequency characteristics in the frequency range of 30MHz to 3, 690MHz were designed.

  • The bucking and postbuckling behavior of composite laminated long cylinders under lateral pressure are investigated by the nonlinear finite element method. A long cylinder of 3-D shell problem is modelled as 2-D plane strain problem for analysis. And for the finite element analysis, eight nodes quadratic element is utilized. Arc-length method is adopted for the iteration and load-increment along postbuckling equilibrium path. The composite laminated cylinders in study are composed of cross-plied uniaxially reinforced shells. As a prsult, buckling load and postbuckling behavior are discussed.

  • In this study, a position and force simultaneous trajectory tracking control algorithm is proposed for a driving apparatus that consists of two pneumatic cylinders connected in series. The controller applied to the driving apparatus is composed of a non-interaction controller to compensate for interaction between cylinders and a disturbance observer aimed to reduce the effect of model discrepancy that cannot be compensated by the non-interaction controller. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is proved by experimental results.

  • The attenuation pattern of the E-polarized electromagnetic fields scattered by two empty circular cylinders in a dielectric medium is analyzed to calculate the effects of the inhomogenuity in hte background medium. Inthe amplitude pattern of the electromagnetic field scattered by one cylinder, double dips occur at the locations corresponding to its top and bottom boundaries. The distorton of the original double dip pattern is calculated when other air cavity approaches or its size increases.

  • Transient solution of asymmetric mechanical and thermal stresses for hollow cylinders made of functionally graded material is presented. Temperature distribution, as function of radial and circumferential directions and time, is analytically obtained, using the method of separation of variables and generalized Bessel function. A direct method is used to solve the Navier equations, using the Euler equation and complex Fourier series.

  • This study concentrates on the second-order diffraction problem around circular cylinders in multi-frequency waves. The method of solution is a time-domain Rankine panel method which adopts a higher-order approximation for the velocity potential and wave elevation. In the present study, the multiple second-order quadratic transfer functions are extracted from the second-order time signal generated in random waves, and the comparison with other bench-mark test results shows a good agreement. This approach is directly applicable to prediction of nonlinear forces on offshore structures in random ocean.

  • Steady-state natural convection heat transfer characteristics from cylinders in a multiply-connected bounded region are clarified. A spectral finite difference scheme (spectral decomposition of the system of partial differential equations, semi-implicit time integration) is applied in numerical analysis, with a boundary-fitted conformal coordinate system through a Jacobian elliptic function with a successive transformation to formulate a system of governing equations in terms of a stream function, vorticity and temperature. Multiplicity of the domain is expressed explicitly.
