  • The effects of surface conditions of the C-2 cemented carbide substrate on the adhesion of diamond film were investigated. The substrates were pretreated for different times with Murakami's reagent and then the acid solution of an H2SO4-H2O2. The adhesion strength was estimated by a peeling area around the Rockwell-A indentation. The cutting performance of the diamond-coated tools was evaluated by measuring flank wears in dry turning of Al-17% Si alloy. The morphology of deposited diamond crystallites was dominated by (111) and (220) surfaces with a cubooctahedral shape. The diamond film quality was hardly affected by the surface conditions of the substrate. The variation of tool life with longer substrate etching times resulted from a compromies between the increase of film adhesion at the interface and the decrease of toughness at the substrate surface. The coated tools were mainly deteriorated by chipping and flaking of the diamond film form a lock of adhesion strength, differently from the wear phenomena of PCD tools.

  • Titanium used in industry has been widely applied for aerospace important parts and automobile important parts, etc. because the titanium is higher in strength compared to the steel and light in weight compared to the steel. This study is to investigate the effect of cutting tool cooling method and cutting time on the spindle speed and feed rate of vertical machining center as a parameter to find the rough cutting time in the medium speed cutting machining of the titanium alloy. It is found that the cutting machining heat are increased as the feed rate, cutting time and spindle speed are raised.

  • We have studied internal quality including chemical compositions, microscopic structure and nonmetallic inclusion of test materials. We have analyzed tensile strength value, hardness value, impact value etc. In analyzing internal quality, all of the test materials showed typical ferrite+pearlite structure. But nonmetallic inclusion showed oxide and sulfide inclusions in medium carbon steels, and sulfide inclusion is S-free cutting steels. In ca+ S-free cutting steels, the calcium aluminate and sulfide complex inclusion had low-melting points as deformation of sulfide and oxide inclusion is existed. It was found that tensile strength and hardness give maximum value in medium carbon steels, where as minimum in Ca + -free cutting steels. But values of elongation, reduction of area impact are reverse. Fracture surface of impact specimen is ductile in free cutting steels but brittle in medium cabon steels.

  • The machinability of material was evaluated using high speed steel drill on hot-rolled high strength steel. Cutting resistance and tool wear were investigated by drilling experimentation. When the steel-board specimens were drilled in industrial condition, the relationship between average of thrust and cutting resistance was random because of slip of chuck and strain of workpiece. The primary objective of this study is to develop the strategy of analysis that can detect drilling states in industrial condition and such strategy is programmed with visual C++. The developed program can analyze thrust of initial rising zone. The result is obtained that thrust of rising zone is closely related to tool wear in despite of industrial condition.

  • Undercutting using an actuated disc cutter (ADC) involves more complex cutting mechanism than traditional rock cutting does, requiring the application of various new cutting parameters, such as eccentricity, cutter inclination angle, and axis rotational speed. This study presents cutting-edge laboratory-scale testing equipment that allows performing ADC tests. ADC tests were carried out on a concrete block with a specified strength of 20 MPa, using a variety of cutting settings that included penetration depth (p), eccentricity (e), and linear velocity (v). ADC, unlike pick and disc cutting, has a non-linear cutting path with a dynamic cutting direction, requiring the development of a new method for predicting cutting force and specific energy. The influence of cutting parameters to the cutter forces were discussed. The ratio of eccentricity to the penetration depth (e/p) was proposed to evaluate the optimal cutting condition. Specific energy varies with e/p ratio, and exhibits optimum values in particular cases. In general, actuated undercutting may potentially give a more efficient cutting than conventional pick and disc cutting by demonstrating reasonably lower specific energy in a comparable cutting environment.

  • The use of roadheaders has been increasing to mitigate the problems of noise and vibration during tunneling operations in urban area. Since lack of experience of roadheader for hard rock, the selection of appropriate machines and the evaluation of cutting rates have been challenging. Currently, empirical models developed overseas are commonly used to evaluate cutting rates, but their effectiveness has not been verified for domestic rocks. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to assess the rock cutting force, cutterhead capacity, and cutting rate to select the appropriate machine and evaluate its performance. The cutterhead capacity was reviewed based on the literature results for the site. Furthermore, a new empirical model and simplified method for predicting cutting rates were proposed through data analysis in relation to operation time and rock strength, and compared with those of the conventional model from the manufacturer. The results show good agreement for high strength range upper 80 MPa of uniaxial compressive strength.

  • A hypereutectic Aluminum-Silicon Alloyis widely used in the parts of automobile because of high-resistance and good strength. In this study, the cutting of a hypereutectic A1-Si alloy (A390) for extraction of Si particle was experimentally investigatec. By proper selection of cutting tool material and optimization of cutting conditions economical machining of this alloy is achieved. The surface roughness relate closely with the feed rate and cutting speed.

  • Titanium is one of the most attractive materials due to their superior properties of high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The applications in aerospace and medical industries demand machining process more frequently to obtain more precise products. Machining of titanium is faced with strong challenges such as increased component complexity i.e. airframe components manufacturing processes. The machining cost on titanium have traditionally demanded high cutting tool consumable cost and slow machining cycle times. Similarly, the high wear of the cutting tools restricts the cutting process capabilities. Titanium screws applied to fasten parts In the several corrosion environment. In the thread cutting of titanium alloys, the key point for successful work is to select proper cutting methods and tool materials. This study suggests a guidance fur selecting the cutting methods and the tool materials to improve thread quality and productivity. Some experiments investigate surface roughnesses, cutting forces and tool wear with change of various cutting parameters including tool materials, cutting methods, cutting speed. As the results, the P10 type insert tip was assured of the best for thread cutting of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. Also the initial depth of infeed was desirable to use the value below 0.5mm as the uniform cutting area method is applied.

  • The effects of forming presure, organic binder content and moisture on flexural strength were investigated. As moisture content increased in the granules during compaction, the density and strength of the green body were increased. Green strengths were found to improve more strongly with increasing forming pressure in the case of using the granules of higher organic content. The sintered strength was the highest with the organic content of 0.2wt% under all forming pressures.

  • In this study it was measured seam strength of T/C which has the different processing methods and density. Also it was measured seam strength by the change of angle in the pattern and the kinds of threads. The results of this study are as follows; The seam strength is stronger in order of $90^{\circ}/90^{\circ}$ > $0^{\circ}/0^{\circ}$ > $70^{\circ}/-70^{\circ}$ > $70^{\circ}/70^{\circ}$ > $60^{\circ}/60^{\circ}$ > $60^{\circ}/-60^{\circ}$ > $30^{\circ}/30^{\circ}$ > $30^{\circ}/-30^{\circ}$ > $45^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}$ > $45^{\circ}/45^{\circ}$ by the cutting directions, in order of T/C3>T/C1>T/C4>T/C2 by the samples and in order of 60's/3>40's/2>60's/2>50's/2 by the threads.
