In the study will look into how Baroque concepts are expressed in architectural space by analyzing the concepts of Baroque formative vocabularies applied in his architecture through a Spanish architect Paolo Portoghesi. Baroque is regarded as the philosophical thought that means enlargement toward diversity of a firm and fixed trend beyond the concept of a certain epochal form of 16th and 17th century architecture. In addition, it is from the free attitude and the intelligent and formal stereotype, and signifies common conditions more than one style in architecture history. Paolo Portoghesi proposes to express gestalt approach by Baroque precedent in his architecture through plasticity and geometric collision technique. Here, the expression of plasticity means the effect that gives formative rhythm to Baroque curved structures. That is the method to expand the formative possibility by changing various materials such as bricks, concrete, and timbers. Second, the geometric collision technique is the technique to constitute the flat form of overall space through the juxtaposition technique, Baroque symmetrical and homogeneous geometric manipulation technique. Accordingly, this study will overcome Inlimitation of formative monotony and expression of abstraction that modernism architecture has, and examine formative waste and conflicts which may be derived from impractical architectural languages of the concept of excessive disorder or the minimum form. This discussion is considered as the first step to tune balance between productivity and formativeness in modern architecture.

Eco-friendly mountain railways operate on concrete rack tracks embedded on existing sharp curved and steep roads to preserve the environment in mountainous areas. Owing to the narrow roads, single lines are inevitable, and many branches are required. In branches, previous switchers and heating devices cannot be applied, because of the limited spacing for the rack and the slow removal of thick ice. To solve these problems, a switch and a heating device have been developed. The switcher changes the line by moving the block of concrete track with hydraulic actuators. The lack of discontinuity reduces the derailment risk and makes locking simple. The heating device uses high frequency induction coils to increase the efficiency and melt the thick ice rapidly. The prototype switcher and heating device were produced and operated to prove their performance. The heating device yielded a 10 times greater efficiency than the previous one. The switcher and heating device are the essential core technologies for the operation of mountain trams in winter and contribute to the spread of mountain railways to domestic or foreign resort areas by enhancing safety and efficiency. In addition, they can provide transportation rights to local residents in poor winter traffic, and bring about tourism and local economic growth.

This study suggests the design and assembly drawing of the prefabricated precast concrete arch ammo magazines using the numerical analysis as well as the explosion verification test. The protective capacity of the proposed magazines is identified with the maximum support rotation angles measured by explosion verification tests according to the U.S. Unified Facility Criteria 3-340-02. Using numerical analysis, it is examined that oval-type members are better than the semi-circle ones in terms of protective capacity. Based on this numerical results, the design and assemble drawing for the prefabricated precast concrete arch ammo magazine are developed. It is identified that the structure constructed by invented design and assembly drawing has enough protective capacity against blast pressure caused by 133.75kg TNT explosion. The detonation point cannot be open due to the military security. In sum, it could be concluded that the ammo magazine proposed in this study has reliable protective capacity with enough redundancy. The redundancy means that there are more economic design approach with reducing the curved wall thickness.
Up to now, the studies for a pond of ancient palace of Korea are mainly achieved in a landscape architectural field. In fact, we can't grasp the general aspects but we are only heard about the fragmentary ruins and remains by the people who are in charge of an archaeological excavation. In this thesis, therefore, I attempt to grasp the relational categories of the ponds of an ancient palace of Korea, and find out the ideological backgrounds of the ponds of a palace construction through classify them excavated so far. The ancient ponds of Korea are divided to the class of square ponds(I) and curved ponds(II) according a shapes of planes. The class of square ponds(I) are subdivided to the form IA of the class of square ponds and form IB of the class of square ponds by whether it has an island, artificial hill and ornamental stone or not. And the class of the curved ponds(II) are divided to the form IIC that is only composed of curves in shore and the form IID that is composed of curves and straight lines. According the size, it is divided to a small size that is below the maximal diameter, 20m, and a large size that is more than 45m, after all, the ponds of the ancient palaces are devided to IAa, IAb, IBa, II Ca, IICb, IIDa. The square ponds and the curved ponds are co-exist from the initial stage when a pond of a place was found in our country and are succeeded or changed after Silla unified the three Kingdoms. In other words, we can infer a continuity from the earlier stage from the fact that there is a flat figure ground mainly constituted by the ponds of a palace mixed up of a straight line and a curved line in United Silla Kingdom while it succeeds the ponds of a palace that has a square form of Goguryo in Balhai. Different from the successional relation of the flat figure grounds, in an aspect of the elements of the construction, the site of the arbor at the top of the island and the bridge facilities in a field of a palace those are not exist in three Kingdoms period are appeared in United Silla Kingdom. The point that this aspect is simultaneously appeared in a neighboring country, or Japan, allows us to infer that there may be some motivations cause the changes in a construction of the ponds of a palace of Korea, China and Japan from the latter half of the 7th century to the first half of the 8th century. The ideological backgrounds of the ponds of a palace construction are divided roughly into Taoism and Buddhism. We can recognize that the ponds of a palace made up of the islands, the artificial hills and the garden rocks reflect Taiosm, considering the records of the ponds a palace of Korea and China are all use the term, Taoism, or the concrete statement represents that the islands, the artificial hills and the garden rocks are used in the description of the ponds of a palace of Korea. Both two are, therefore, obviously differentiated from the ponds of a palace that doesn't include them. We can conclude that the ponds of a palace that doesn't include them are colored by Buddhism since they are overtly distinguished from the class of curved ponds that reflect Taoism at the same period and they are identical with the site of an ancient temples in an aspect of their type and construction.

This study is about an arrangement method of trapezoidal pre-cast segment lining that can be applied in shield tunnel construction. Trapezoidal segment lining is formed by assembling tapered pre-cast concrete segments taking advantage of the tapered shape of pre-cast segments upon delivery on site. By calculating tapering of the segments manufactured in single type and rotating the segments when putting them together, a variety of tunnel alignments can be arranged in the most efficient way. Once the design criteria and tunnel alignment (straight or curved) is analyzed, the sequence of assembling trapezoidal segments in compliance with tunnel alignment will be computed. On site an operator can utilize the softwareto automatically determine sequential arrangement of trapezoidal segments. When the actual arrangement of segmental lining is different from the computed output, the operator can input the actually measured values to coincide the computerized calculation with the real status of assembly. Then the adjustment will be the basis of subsequent arrangement of segments, thus the continuity of work can be guaranteed.
Argonne National Laboratory of the United States and Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology (KIPT) of Ukraine have cooperated on the development, design, and construction of a neutron source facility. The facility was constructed at Kharkov, Ukraine, and its commissioning process is underway. The facility will be used for researches, producing medical isotopes, and training young nuclear specialists. The neutron source facility is designed with a provision to include a cryogenically cooled moderator system-a cold neutron source (CNS). This CNS provides low-energy neutrons, which will be used in the scattering experiment and material structures analysis. Cold neutron guides, coated with reflective material for the low-energy neutrons, will be used to transport the cold neutrons to the experimental site. The cold neutron guides would keep the cold neutrons within certain energy and angular space concentrated inside, while most of the gamma rays and high-energy neutrons are not affected by the cold neutron guides. For the KIPT design, the cold neutron guides need to extend several meters outside the main shield of the facility, and curved guides will also be used to remove the gamma and high-energy neutron. The neutron guides should be installed inside a shield structure to ensure an acceptable biological dose in the facility hall. Heavy concrete is the selected shielding material because of its acceptable performance and cost. Shield design analysis was carried out for the CNS guide hall. MCNPX was used as the major computation tool for the design analysis, with neutron and gamma dose calculated separately. Weight windows variance reduction technique was also used in the shield design. The goal of the shield design is to keep the total radiation dose below the $5.0{\mu}Sv/hr$ guideline outside the shield boundary. After a series of iterative MCNPX calculations, the shield configuration and parameters of CNS guide hall were determined and presented in this article.

This research identifies specific user experience factors that have positive impact on user's behavior intention to use so that a new technology called stretchable display(SD) can be accepted and spread in the market. To show how these factors can be applied to SD home appliances, a few concrete designs have been suggested. In the first stage of the research, the initial concept of innovative product design with stretchable display was derived by developing a scenario that solves the expected experience by home product users through the attributes of the SD technology. In the second stage, a scenario of the product to which a stretchable display was applied was suggested to investigate the expected experience factors that influence the behavior intention to use. As a result of the analysis, users showed a positive intention to use for the factors of Functionality of Space and Life Support, Presentation of Preferences, and Customization of Emotions, provided by the product with SD technology applied. In the next stage, based on the verified user experience factors, multifunctional kitchen appliances design, smart furniture design with flexible surfaces, and smart interior wall tile design have been derived. After all, the differentiated transformable interface designs shown through this process have been suggested as three-dimensional soft-physical button design and attachable design for multi-curved soft furniture. This study is significant as it emphasizes a user-centered design process over a technology-centered approach, enhancing market acceptability and focusing on design features aligned with the user's expected experience.

Recently, the interest and demand on free formed structure providing aesthetic value as well as functionality has been increasing. Formwork has numerous advantages such as high strength, convenience, accuracy and good quality of surface roughness. Nevertheless, it increases construction cost and period to build complex shapes. For these purpose, deposition construction systems such as Contour Crafting and Concrete Printing have been developed with active collaboration between university and industry by applying the rapid prototyping technology to the construction industry in USA and England. Since there has been no related research in Korea, the possibility of spin-off technology and its fusion cannot be expected. In this paper, design elements including mechanical system and control system related to automatic deposition construction system prototype for constructing a free curved structure without mold are described. As for an appropriate material for the system, fiber reinforced mortar was selected by experiments on compressive strength, fluidity, viscosity and setting time. By performing transfer and extrusion experiments, the possibility of the development of deposition construction system was demonstrated. Based on this research results, it is required to keep the automatic deposition construction system improve and extend it into the new application area in construction industry.

A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete beam under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment-curvature models and the layered section approach, the proposed model takes into consideration the bond-slip effect by using monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing to layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures. The modification of the moment-curvature relation to reflect the fixed-end rotation and pinching effect is also introduced. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model.

A study for the nonlinear analysis method of prestressed concrete(PSC) girders with external tendons is presented. The PSC girders with external tendons show the complex nonlinear behavior due to the slip of external tendons at deviator and the change of eccentricity between the girders and external tendons. The external tendon between anchorage-deviator or deviator-deviator is modeled as an assemblage of the curved elements. The slip effect of the external tendon at deviator is taken into account using the force equilibrium relationship between the friction force and the driving force at each deviator. The finite element model and analysis method of the external tendon suggested herein are integrated in the nonlinear analysis program of segmentally erected PSC frames developed by the authors. The proposed analysis method is verified through the comparison of the analysis and experimental results obtained from other investigators. From the ultimate analysis results of PSC beams with external tendons having different number of deviators, the yielding and ultimate loads of PSC beams found to be increased as the number of deviators are increased. In addition, the ultimate capacity of the PSC beam increases according to the increase of friction coefficient between deviator and external tendon, whereas found to decease over the certain value of friction due to the effect of the moment transmitted to the member by the friction force exerted from the external tendon.
