  • In South Korea, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) has been enforced since 2004 to restore and manage water quality in the watersheds. However, the appraisal of TMDL in South Korea has lots of weaknesses to establish the plan for recovery of water quality because it just evaluates the target water quality during the particular flow duration interval. In the United States, Load Duration Curve (LDC) method bas been widely used in the TMDL to evaluate the water quality and pollutant loads considering variation of stream flow. In a recent study, web-based Load Duration Curve system was developed to create the LDC automatically and provide the convenience of use. In this study, web-based Load Duration Curve system was applied in the Gapyeongcheon watershed using the daily flow and 8-day interval water quality data, and Q-L Rating Curve was used to evaluate the water quality and pollutant load in the watershed, also. As a result of study, water quality and pollutant load in Gapyeongcheon watershed were met with water quality standard and allocated load in the all flow durations. Web-based Load Duration Curve system could be applied to the appraisal of South Korean TMDL because it can be used to judge the impaired flow duration and build up the plan of load reduction, and it could enhance the publicity. But, web-based Load Duration Curve system should be enhanced through addition of load assessment tools such as Q-L rating curve to evaluate water quality and pollutant load objectively.

  • A study was carried out to establish the detection method of irradiated agricultural products cultivated in Korea by Thermoluminscece(TL). Samples were irradiated using Co-60 gamma rays at various doses(0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 kGy). After irradiation, separated minerals of the samples measured by TL. TL intensity increased with increasing doses and the irradiated samples were higher than the non-irradiated samples. TL first and second glow curves showed maximum TL temperature point at $176.16{\sim}190.08^{\circ}C$ and $143.84{\sim}146.56^{\circ}C$, respectively. All the irradiated samples can be classified correctly by the shape of the glow curve and the glow curve ratio. Correlation coefficients of ginger, carrot, potato and sweet potato were 0.9968, 0.8522, 0.9612 and 0.9071, respectively, that showed very high correlation between irradiation dose and TL intensity. Therefore, these results suggest that TL measurement is an useful detection method for irradiated agricultural products.

  • Following a series of experiments on isolated low-rise RC shear walls with openings, a theoretical study on the backbone curve of a perforated shear wall shows that there are some important observations from experimental results that make clear a semi-empirical formula of the backbone curve of a perforated wall. Critical shear zones can be depicted from the configuration of shear walls with openings. Different factors, including the size and location of shear wall openings, the wall's height/width ratio, horizontal and vertical steel bar ratios, and location and amount of diagonal steel bars are involved in the derivation of the backbone curve. Bending and shear effects are also considered in the paper. In addition, a comparison of load and displacement for solid and perforated shear walls is discussed. Generally, the comparison between experimental curves and computed backbone curves is favorable.

  • We classify all semigroups each of which arises as a Weierstrass semigroup at a pair of non-Weierstrass points on a smooth plane curve of degree 5. First we find the candidates of semigroups by computing the dimensions of linear series on the curve. Then, by constructing examples of smooth plane curves of degree 5, we prove that each of the candidates is actually a Weierstrass semigroup at some pair of points on the curve. We need to study the systems of quadratic curves, which cut out the canonical series on the plane curve of degree 5.

  • In 3-dimensional Euclidean space, the geometric figures of a regular curve are completely determined by the curvature function and the torsion function of the curve, and surfaces are the fundamental curved spaces for pioneering study in modern geometry as well as in classical differential geometry. In this paper, we define parametrizations for surface by using parametric functions whose images are in the normal plane of each point on a given curve, and then obtain some results relating the Gaussian curvature of the surface with curvature and torsion of the given curve. In particular, we find some conditions for the surface to have either nonpositive Gaussian curvature or nonnegative Gaussian curvature.

  • This research is to evaluate of the J-R curve characteristic in 5083 aluminum alloy weldment by utilizing the load ratio analysis. This analysis method can be evaluated the J-R curve only with load-displacement curve without any particular precision instrument equipment in CT specimen. For validity, the results of the load ratio analysis are compared with the those of the J-R curve, which are obtained by the ASTM standard unloading compliance method. The calculated crack length of the load ratio analysis is well appropriate that the measured final crack length. And the J-R curve slope estimated by the load ratio analysis is slightly smaller than that by the ASTM unloading compliance method.

  • A simple method to derive an optimal pressure curve, characterized by initial pressure, final pressure and pressure path, has been proposed. The initial pressure has been determined from the condition to prevent recoiling phenomenon in the early stage, while the final pressure is from the FE analysis and pressure path is from the punch penetration volume. In order to realize the pressure curve, an open loop control system based on a proportional relief valve has been developed for the renovated CNC hydroforming press. Through the comparison of experiment and analysis, the predicted pressure curve has been verified optimal curve since no defect has been observed.

  • Productivity of shoe industry in Korea is still more excellent then that of China or Vietnam, But manufacturing technology and productive facility are underdevelopment in comparison advanced country. CAD/CAM system development, one of the most important technology, is totally nonexistent. specially, the automatic generation function and the grading function in shoe sole modeling are dependent of the foreign software. The CAD/CAM software only for shoe modeling is very expensive, so that it is going to weaken shoe industry of Korea. Therefore, We developed 3D gauge curve generation method using 2D NURBS curve in shoe sole modeling.

  • Because most common assumption is normality in statistical analysis, testing normality is very important. We propose a new plot and test statistic to test for normality based on the modified Lorenz curve that is proved to be a powerful tool to measure the income inequality within a population of income receivers. We also compare the proposed test statistics with the W test (Shapiro and Wilk (1965)), TL test (Kang and Cho (1999)) in terms of the power of test through by Monte Carlo method. The proposed test is more usually powerful than the other tests except some case.

  • Fracture toughness defined near the initiation of stable crack growth is investigated by R-curve and Direct Current electric Potential Determination(DCPD) under mode I plane strain conditions for CT specimen with 25.4mm thickness of SS400 steel. Fracture toughness. $J_{IC}$lit near crack tip of CT specimen by R-curve is 17.14 $kg_{f}/mm$ and however. its value by DCPD is 22.82 $Rg_{f} mm$ The value of fracture toughness by DCPD is larger than that by R-curve. Therefore, it is suggested that the evaluation of fracture toughness by R-curve is optimum than by DCPD, when considering amount of crack growth about each of fracture toughness.
