To fabricate a metal mold for injection molding, hot-embossing and imprinting process, mechanical machining, electro discharge machining (EDM), electrochemical machining (ECM), laser process and wet etching ($FeCl_3$ process) have been widely used. However it is hard to get precise structure with these processes. Electrochemical etching has been also employed to fabricate a micro structure in metal mold. A through mask electrochemical micro machining (TMEMM) is one of the electrochemical etching processes which can obtain finely precise structure. In this process, many parameters such as current density, process time, temperature of electrolyte and distance between electrodes should be controlled. Therefore, it is difficult to predict the result because it has low reliability and reproducibility. To improve it, we investigated this process numerically and experimentally. To search the relation between processing parameters and the results, we used finite element simulation and the commercial finite element method (FEM) software ANSYS was used to analyze the electric field. In this study, it was supposed that the anodic dissolution process is predicted depending on the current density which is one of major parameters with finite element method. In experiment, we used stainless steel (SS304) substrate with various sized square and circular array patterns as an anode and copper (Cu) plate as a cathode. A mixture of $H_2SO_4$, $H_3PO_4$ and DIW was used as an electrolyte. After electrochemical etching process, we compared the results of experiment and simulation. As a result, we got the current distribution in the electrolyte and line profile of current density of the patterns from simulation. And etching profile and surface morphologies were characterized by 3D-profiler(${\mu}$-surf, Nanofocus, Germany) and FE-SEM(S-4800, Hitachi, Japan) measurement. From comparison of these data, it was confirmed that current distribution and line profile of the patterns from simulation are similar to surface morphology and etching profile of the sample from the process, respectively. Then we concluded that current density is more concentrated at the edge of pattern and the depth of etched area is proportional to current density.

Many researchers have been tried to improve the performance of the phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode(PHOLED) by controlling of the dopant profile in the emission layer. In this work, as shown in Fig. 1 insert, a typical red PHOLED device which has the structure of ITO/NPB(50nm)/CBP(30nm)/TPBi(10nm)/Alq3(20nm)/LiF(0.8nm)/Al(100nm) is fabricated with a 5nm thick doping section in the emission layer. The doping section is formed by co-deposition of CBP and Ir(btp)2acac with a doping concentration of 8%, and it's location(x) is changed from HTL/EML interface to EML/HBL in 5nm steps. The current efficiency versus current density of the devices are shown in Fig. 1. By changing the location of doping section, as shown in Fig. 1 and 2, at x=5nm, the efficiency shows the maximum of 3.1 cd/A at 0.5 mA/cm2 and it is slightly decreased when the section is closed to HTL and slightly increased when the section is closed to HBL. If the doping section is closed to HTL(NPB) the excitons can be quenched easily to NPB's triplet state energy level(2.5eV) which is relatively lower than that of CBP(2.6eV). Because there is a hole accumulation at EML/HBL interface the efficiency can be increased slightly when the section is closed to HBL. Even the thickness of the doping section is only 5nm,. the maximum efficiency of 3.1 cd/A with x=5 is closed to that of the homogeneously doped device, 3.3 cd/A, because the diffusion length of the excitons is relatively long. As a result, we confirm that the current efficiency of the PHOLED can be improved by the doping profile optimization such as partially, not homogeneously, doped EML structure.

There are many types of the geometric transitions such as dent, bulge, protrusion, expansion, etc, on the inner and outer surfaces of heat exchanger tubes, steam generator tubes, and condenser tubes of nuclear power plants. Such geometric transition causes a local residual stress in heat exchanger tubes and acts as a structural factor accelerating the evolution of defects, in particular stress corrosion cracks. In the conventional eddy current test methods, the bobbin coil profilometry can provide 2-dimensional geometric information on the variation of the average inner diameter along the tube length, but the 3-dimensional distribution and the quantitative size of a local geometric transition existing in the tube cannot be measured. In this paper, a new eddy current probe, developed for the 3-dimensional profile measurement, is introduced and its superior performance is compared with that from the conventional bobbin coil profilometry for the various types of geometric transition. Also, the accuracy of the probe for the quantitative profile measurement is verified by comparing the results with that from the laser profilometry. It is expected that the new eddy current probe and techniques can be effectively used for an optimization of the tube expansion process, and the management of tubes with geometric transitions in service.
The results of measurements of shear current induced in water by wind in wind wave tunnel are presented briefly. The shear current distributions are found to fit reasonably well an exponentiall form. This form was used to estimate surface velocity and boundary layer thickness used in stability analysis. An analysis of hydrodynamic stability of the shear current was carried out, using a broken line as an approximate profile, to see the stability as a possible mechanism of wind wave generation. Comparison between experimental results and theoretical ones shows that there exists a large discrepancy particularly in phase velocity and hydrodynamic instability of the shear current seems not to be the basic mechanism of wind wave generation.
In an effort to investigate the structure and variability of the coastal current in the East Sea, a moored ADCP observation was conducted off Uljin from late May to mid-October 2006. Owing to the transition of season from summer to autumn, the features of the current and wind can be divided into two parts. Until mid-August (Part-I), a southward flow is dominant at all depths with a mean alongshore velocity of 4.2~8.9 cm/s but northward winds are not strong enough to reverse the near-surface current. During Part-II, a strong northward current occurs frequently in the upper layer but winds are predominantly southward including two typhoons that have deep-reaching influence. Profile of mean velocity has three layers with a northward velocity embedded at 12~28 m depth. The near-surface current of Part-II significantly coheres with winds at 4-8 day periods with a phase lag of about 12 hours. The modal structure of the current obtained by EOF analysis is: (1) Mode-1, having 83.6% of total variance, represents the current in the same direction at all depths corresponding to the southward North Korean Cold Current (NKCC). (2) Mode-2 (11.7%) reveals a two-layer structure that can be explained by the northward East Korean Warm Current (EKWC) in the upper layer and NKCC in the lower. (3) Mode-3 (2.6%) has three layers, in which the EKWC is reversed near the surface by opposing winds. This mode is particularly similar to the mean velocity profile of Part-II.

Flexible roll forming allows profiles to have variable cross-sections. However, the profile may have some shape errors, such as, warping which is a major defect. The shape error is induced by geometrical deviations in both the concave zone and the convex zone. In the current study, flexible roll forming was modeled with FE simulations to analyze the shape error and the longitudinal strain distribution along the flange section over the profile. A distribution of analytically calculated longitudinal strains was used to develop relationships between the shape error and the longitudinal strain distribution as a function of the defined shape parameters for the profile. The FE simulations showed that the shape error is primarily affected by the deviations between the distribution of analytically calculated longitudinal strain and the longitudinal strain distribution of the profile. The results show that the shape error can be controlled by designing the shape parameters to control the geometrical deviations at the flange section in the transition zones.
The PC1D is widely used for modeling the properties of crystalline silicon solar cell. Optimized doping profile in crystalline silicon solar cell fabrication is necessary to obtain high conversion efficiency. Doping profile in the forms of a uniform, gaussian, exponential and erfc function can be simulated using the PC1D program. In this paper, the doping profiles including junction depth, dopant concentration on surface and the form of doping profile (gaussian, gaussian+erfc function) were changed to study its effect on electrical properties of solar cell. As decreasing junction depth and doping concentration on surface, electrical properties of solar cell were improved. The characteristics for the solar cells with doping profile using the combination of gaussian and erfc function showed better open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current and conversion efficiency.
Flow analysis of profile extrusion is essential for design and production of a profile extrusion die. Velocity, pressure, and temperature distribution in an extrusion die are predicted and compared with the experimental results. A two dimensional numerical method is proposed for three dimensional analysis of the flow field within the profile extrusion die by applying a modified cross-sectional numerical method. Since the cross-sectional shape of the die is varied gradually, it is assumed that the pressure is constant within a cross-sectional plane that is perpendicular to the flow direction. With this assumption, the velocity component in the cross-sectional direction is neglected. The exact cross-sectional shape at any position is calculated based on the geometry of standard cross-sections. The momentum and energy equations are solved with proper boundary conditions at a cross-section and then the same calculation is carried out for the next cross-section using the current calculated values. An L-shaped profile extrusion die is produced and employed for experimental investigation using a commercially available polypropylene. Numerical prediction for the varying cross-sectional shape provides better results than the previous studies and is in good agreement with the experimental results.

Various techniques to measure the three-dimensional (3D) surface profile of a 3D micro- or nanostructure have been proposed. However, it is difficult to apply such techniques directly to industrial uses because most of them are relatively slow, unreliable, and expensive. The HiLo optical imaging technique, which was recently introduced in the field of fluorescence imaging, is a promising wide-field imaging technique capable of high-speed imaging with a simple optical configuration. It has not been used in measuring a 3D surface profile although confocal microscopy originally developed for fluorescence imaging has been adapted to the field of 3D optical measurement for a long time. In this paper, to the best of our knowledge, the HiLo optical imaging technique for measuring a 3D surface profile is proposed for the first time. Its optical configuration and algorithm for a precisely detecting surface position are designed, optimized, and implemented. Optical performance for several 3D microscale structures is evaluated, and it is confirmed that the capability of measuring a 3D surface profile with HiLo optical imaging technique is comparable to that with confocal microscopy.
In this study, Two dimensional spatial profile of electromagnetic field for capacitively coupled plasma source is calculated. Based on one dimensional fluid equation, spatial profile for the axial direction of electric field and conduction current density is firstly calculated. The two dimensional spatial profile for the electromagnetic field is calculated from solution of Maxwell equation that is expanded to power series for ${\omega}r/c$ into the radial direction.
