Position estimation that uses only active phase voltage and current is presented, to perform high accuracy position sensorless control of a SRM drive. By extracting the amplitude of the first switching harmonic terms of phase voltage and current for a PWM period through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), the flux-linkage and position are estimated without external hardware circuitry, such as a modulator and demodulator, which result in increased cost, as well as large position estimation error, produced when the motional back EMF is ignored near zero speed. A two-phase SRM drive system, consisting of an asymmetrical converter and a conventional closed-loop PI current controller, is utilized to validate the performance of the proposed position estimation scheme in comprehensive operating conditions. It is shown that the estimated values very closely track the actual values, in dynamic simulations and experiments.

This paper presents a new rotor position estimation method for brushless DC motors. The estimation error of the rotor position clearly provokes the phase shift angle misaligned between the phase current and the back-EMF waveforms, which causes torque ripple in brushless DC motor drives. Such an estimation error can be reduced with the help of the proposed neutral-voltage-based estimation method, which is structured as a closed loop observer. A neutral voltage appearing during the normal mode of the inverter operation is found to be an observable and control table measure, which can be used for estimating an exact rotor position. This neutral voltage is obtained from the DC-link current, the switching logic, and the motor speed values. The proposed algorithm, which can be easily implemented by using a single DC-link current and the motor terminal voltage sensors, is verified by simulation and experiment results.

This paper studies the state estimation problem for the current of DC/DC boost converters with parasitic inductor resistance. The parasitic resistance increases the system uncertainty when the output load variation occurs. In order to enhance the observation performance of the Luenberger observer this paper includes the integral of the estimation error signal to the estimation algorithm. By using the proposed PI observer the converter current signal is successfully reconstructed with the voltage measurement regardless of the load uncertainty. Computer simulation has been carried out by using Simulink/Sim Power System. Simulation results show the proposed method maintains robust estimation performance against the model uncertainty.

An Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler(ADCP) measures the current velocity and analyzes the degree of turbulence using Doppler effects of ultrasonic waves. Therefore, the autocorrelation or FFT spectrum estimates are obtained for extraction of current velocity in each spatial region. However, if the correlation method does not satisfy the assumption that the return signal spectra are symmetric Gaussian, the large bias errors can occur. Also, the accurate estimation of autocorrelation or FFT spectrum is difficult due to the short acquisition interval when the rapid changes of current velocity occur. Thus, in this paper, the estimation method of the autoregressive spectrum peak is suggested for the accurate current velocity measurement of both symmetric and asymmetric spectra. It is shown that estimation quality can be improved using the suggested method comparing with the conventional methods. Many return signals under the various environment are simulated and the results are compared and analyzed for evaluation of the suggested method.

This paper presents the sinusoidal tracking controller in error to eliminate the steady state control error and to improve the transient characteristics for input current in voltage source PWM converter with input current estimation. The estimation method of input current values and configuration of controller are described. DC output voltage is controlled by PI controller, and sinusoidal tracking current controller which tracks directly AC input current is used as input current controller. The sinusoidal tracking current controller can be used without any coordinate transformation algorithms. It is proved that the steady state deviation of input current reduces to zero and the proposed control system is not affected by input voltage from transfer functions of input current control system. The validity of proposed scheme is verified by simulations and experimental results for load resister and input voltage variation.

Nowadays, Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) has become very popular in streaming multimedia contents. In DASH, a client estimates current network bandwidth and then determines an appropriate video quality with bitrate matching the estimated bandwidth. Thus, estimating accurately the available bandwidth is a significant premise in the quality of video streaming, especially when network traffic fluctuates substantially. To cope with this challenge, researchers have presented various filters to estimate network bandwidth adaptively. However, experiment results show that current schemes either adapt slowly to network changes or adapt fast but are very sensitive to delay jitter and produce sharply changed estimation. This paper presents a novel bandwidth estimation scheme based on Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD). We applied an MACD indicator and its two thresholds to classifying network states into stable state and agile state, based on the network state different filters are applied to estimate network bandwidth. In the paper, we studied the performance of various MACD indicators and the threshold values on bandwidth estimation. Then we used a DASH proxy-based environment to compare the performance of the presented scheme with current well-known schemes. The simulation results illustrate that the MACD-based bandwidth estimation scheme performs superior to existing schemes both in the speed of adaptively to network changes and in stability in bandwidth estimation.

This paper presents the method for an estimation of discharge current waveshapes in short gap discharge by radiated electromagnetic fields. The method of current waveform estimation described is using the one antenna method(single field method) and two antennal method(complex field method) with a measured electric or magnetic fields at given field point by a time domain antenna. In order to verify the availability of the estimation theory, the discharge current waveshape estimation was performed by one and two antenna methods using the measured electric fields of Wilson & Ma and compared with experiments.
In this paper, a new method for the online estimation of equivalent series resistances (ESR) of the DC-link capacitors in induction machine (IM) drive systems with a front-end diode rectifier is proposed, where the ESR estimation is conducted during the regenerative operating mode of the induction machine. In the first place, a regulated AC current component is injected into the q-axis current component of the induction machine, which induces the current and voltage ripple components in the DC-link. By processing these AC signals through digital filters, the ESR can be estimated by a recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm. To acquire the AC voltage across the ESR, the DC-link voltage needs to be measured at a double sampling frequency. In addition, the ESR current is simply reconstructed from the stator currents and switching states of the inverter. Experimental results have shown that the estimation error of the ESR is about 1.2%, which is quite acceptable for condition monitoring of the capacitor.
