This paper describes a new sensorless speed control method for permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) using direct torque control(DTC). The direct torque control offers fast torque response, lesser hardware and processing costs as compared to vector controlled drives. In this paper the current error compensation technique is applied for sensorless speed control of synchronous motor. Through this method, the controlled stator voltage is applied to the synchronous motor so that the error between stator currents of the mathematical model and the actual motor can be forced to decay to zero as time proceeds and therefore, the motor speed approaches to the setting value. Especially, any PI controllers are not necessary in this control method. The simulation results indicate good speed and load responses from the low speed range to the high.
This paper presents how to design speed control of wound rotor induction motors with slip energy recovery. The speed is limited at some range of sub-synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field. The problem with speed control by adjusting resistance value in the rotor circuit reduces the efficiency of power, because of the slip energy is lost when it passes through the rotor resistance. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor, where it recovers loss energy by returning it to the system to improve the efficiency. A new PI control method of adaptive control [1],[13]is applied for the system with cascade type PI controller on the main loop to keep the speed constant and the internal loop to adjust the rotor appropriated current of the load provides the good transient response without overshoot.
Grafting of fruit-bearing vegetables has been widely used to increase the resistance to soil-borne diseases, to increase the tolerance to low temperature or to soil salinity, to increase the plant vigor, and to extend the duration of economic harvest time. After grafting, it is important to control the environment around grafted seedlings for the robust joining of a scion and rootstock. Usually the shading materials and plastic films are used to keep the high relative humidity and low light intensity in greenhouse or tunnel. It is quite difficult to optimally control the environment for healing and acclimation of grafted seedlings under natural light. So the farmers or growers rely on their experience for the production of grafted seedling with high quality. If artificial light is used as a lighting source for graft-taking of grafted seedlings, the light intensity and photoperiod can be easily controlled. The purpose of this study was to develop a prototype system for the graft-taking enhancement of grafted seedlings using artificial lighting and to investigate the effect of air current speed on the distribution of air temperature and relative humidity in a graft-taking enhancement system. A prototype graft-taking system was consisted by polyurethane panels, air-conditioning unit, system controller and lighting unit. Three band fluorescent lamps (FL20SEX-D/18, Kumho Electric, Inc.) were used as a lighting source. Anemometer (Climomaster 6521, KANOMAX), T-type thermocouples and humidity sensors (CHS-UPS, TDK) were used to measure the air current speed, air temperature and relative humidity in a graft-taking system. In this system, air flow acted as a driving force for the diffusion of heat and water vapor. Air current speed, air temperature and relative humidity controlled by a programmable logic controller (UP750, Yokogawa Electric Co) and an inverter (MOSCON-G3, SAMSUNG) had an even distribution. Distribution of air temperature and relative humidity in a graft-taking enhancement system was fairly affected by air current speed. Air current speed higher than 0.1m/s was required to obtain the even distribution of environmental factors in this system. At low air current speed of 0.1m/s, the evapotranspiration rate of grafted seedlings would be suppressed and thus graft-taking would be enhanced. This system could be used to investigate the effects of air temperature, relative humidity, air current speed and light intensity on the evaportranspiration rate of grafted seedlings.
This paper deals with the robust speed regulation of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) that is subject to parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed approach retains a conventional cascade control configuration composed of an outer-loop speed control module and inner-loop current control modules. Baseline proportional-integral (PI) controllers are designed for nominal modular systems without accounting for the uncertainties to set a desired control performance of the closed-loop system. After studied in both frequency and time domains, a reduced-order proportional-integral observer (PIO), as a modular disturbance observer, is incorporated with each control module to maintain the ideal performance of the modules. Theoretical analysis confirms the desired performance recovery of the augmented system with modular PIOs to the nominal system. Comparative computer simulations and experimental results validate the proposed cascade control method for SPMSM speed regulation.

In this paper the robust vector control method of induction motor for the purpose of improving the system performance deterioration caused by parameter variations is proposed. The estimations of the stator current and the rotor flux are obtained by the full order state observer with corrective prediction error feedback. and the adaptive scheme is constructed to estimate the rotor speed with the error signal between real and estimation value of the stator current. Adaptive sliding observer based on the variable structure control is applied to parameter identification. Consequently predictive current control and speed sensorless vector control can be obtained simultaneously regardless of the parameter variations.

The speed at which the SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) makes a transition from chopping control to single pulse operation. (i.e., low speed to high speed operation). It is unsatisfied with performance at all operational regimes. In this paper, the operational performance of SRM can be improved by using current hysteresis control method. This method maintains a generally flat current waveform. At the high speed, the current chopping capability is lost due to the development of the back-EMF. Therefore SRM operates in single pulse mode. By using zero-current switching and zero-voltage switching technique, the stress of power switches can be reduce in chopping mode. When the commutation from one phase winding to another phase winding, the current can be zero as fast as possible in this period because several times negative voltage of DC-source voltage produce in phase winding. This paper is compared to performance based on energy efficient C-dump converter topology and the proposed resonant C-dump converter topology. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.
This paper describes simple control structures for a vector controlled stand-alone induction generator (IG) for use under variable speeds. Different control principles, indirect vector control and deadbeat current control, are developed for a voltage source PWM converter and the three-phase variable speed squirrel-cage IG to regulate DC-link and generator voltages with a newly designed phase locked loop circuit. The required reactive power for the variable speed IG is supplied by means of a PWM converter and a capacitor bank to buildup the voltage of the IG without the need for a battery, to reduce the rating of the PWM converter while using only three sensors and to eliminate the harmonics generated by the PWM converter. These proposed schemes can be used efficiently for variable speed wind energy conversion systems. The measurements of the IG systems at various speeds and loads are given and show that these systems are capable of good AC and DC voltage regulation.
The development of the frequency converter using semiconductor enables to easily control the speed of alternating current machineries. In such case, it is desired to observe how several characteristics are changed, such as primary current, power factor, torque, secondary output, efficiency and transient performance. In this paper, the above characteristics are investigated by means of computational method from various constants relating to the motor which is designed in rated frequency 60 cycles. Transient fluctuations in motor speed are also observed with graphical method. These have been validated by the experimental results. When the frequency is to be varied in order to control the speed, it is seen that some of characteristics are getting better and others worse contrarily. The above characteristics may be applied to the optimum electrical, mechanical design of the motor which puts emphases on speed control.

When the vector control, which does not need a speed signal from a mechanical speed sensor, it is possible to reduce the cost of the control equipment and to improve the control performance in many industrial application. This paper describes a rotor speed identification method of induction motor based on the theory of flux model reference adaptive system. The estimator execute the rotor speed identification so that the vector control of the induction motor may be achieved. The improved auxiliary variable of the two model are introduced In perform accurate rotor speed estimation. The control system is composed of the PI controller for speed control and current controller using space voltage vector PWM technique. High speed calculation and processing for vector control is carried out by TMS320C31 digital signal processor. Validity of the proposed control method is verified through simulation and experimental result.
In this paper, a novel loss minimization of an induction generator in wind energy generation systems is presented. The proposed algorithm is based on the flux level reduction, for which the generator d-axis current reference is estimated using support vector regression (SVR). Wind speed is employed as an input of the SVR and the samples of the generator d-axis current reference are used as output to train the SVR algorithm off-line. Data samples for wind speed and d-axis current are collected for the training process, which plots a relation of input and output. The predicted off-line function and the instantaneous wind speed are then used to determine the d-axis current reference. It is shown that the effect of loss minimization is more significant at low wind speed and the loss reduction is about to 40% at 4[m/s] wind speed. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by experimental results.
