PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to develop bridge deck concrete materials based on ordinary Portland cement concrete, and to evaluate the applicability of the developed materials through material properties tests. METHODS : For field implementation, raw material (cement, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate) properties, fresh concrete properties (slump and air content), strength (compressive, flexural and bond strength) gain, and durability (freeze-thaw resistance, scaling resistance, and rapid chloride penetrating resistance) performance were evaluated in the laboratory. RESULTS : For the selected binder content of $410kg/m^3$, W/B = 0.42, and S/a = 0.48, the following material performance results were obtained. Considering the capacity of the deck finisher, a minimum slump of 150 mm was required. At least 6 % of air content was obtained to resist freeze-thaw damage. In terms of strength, 51.28 MPa of compressive strength, 7.41 MPa of flexural strength, and 2.56 MPa of bond strength at 28 days after construction were obtained. A total of 94.9 % of the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity after 300 cycles of freeze-thaw resistance testing and $0.0056kg/m^2$ of weight loss in a scaling resistance test were measured. However, in a chloride ion penetration resistance test, the result of 3,356 Coulomb, which exceeds the threshold value of the standard specification (1000 Coulomb at 56 days) was observed. CONCLUSIONS : Instead of using high-performance modified bridge deck materials such as latex or silica fume, we developed an optimum mix design based on ordinary Portland cement concrete. A test construction was carried out at ramp bridge B (bridge length = 111 m) in Gim Jai City. Immediately after the concrete was poured, the curing compound was applied, and then wet mat curing was applied for 28 days. Considering the fact that cracks did not occur during the monitoring period, the applicability of the developed material is considered to be high.
Exposed to various environments, concrete confronts degradation by a lot of physical and chemical reaction. Though so many experiments and theorizations on the single condition of concrete degradation have been carried out by constant studies, the truth for now is that there are few studies on the compound phenomenon of degradation related with marine environments. Accordingly, this study measured the degree of degradation in the change of external shape, the change of unit weight and compressive strength, ultrasonic velocity test, and the change of length, etc. after exposing the specimen of cement mortar to the environment between 0 cycle and the maximum of 300 cycles under the condition of aquatic curing, freezing and thawing, and compound degradation, using mineral admixture effective for concrete degradation as a binder. The result indicated that the case of adding mineral admixture showed greater resistance than that of using OPC only, and specifically, the specimen with the additive of slag powder and three component system showed very excellent resistance to freezing and thawing, and compound degradation.

The effect of temperature on ACF thermocompression bonding for FPD assembly was investigated, It was found that Au bumps on driver IC's were not bonded to the glass substrate when the bonding temperature was below $140^{\circ}C$ so bonds were made at temperatures of $163^{\circ}C$, $178^{\circ}C$ and $199^{\circ}C$ for further testing. The bonding time and pressure were constant to 3 sec and 3.038 MPa. To test bond reliability, FPD assemblies were subjected to thermal shock storage tests ($-30^{\circ}C$, $1\;Hr\;{\leftrightarrow}80^{\circ}C$, 1 Hr, 10 Cycles) and func! tionality was verified by driver testing. It was found all of FPDs were functional after the thermal cycling. Additionally, Au bumps were bonded using ACF's with higher conductive particle densities at bonding temperatures above $163^{\circ}C$. From the experimental results, when the bonding temperature was increased from $163^{\circ}C$ to $199^{\circ}C$, the curing time could be reduced and more conductive particles were retained at the bonding interface between the Au bump and glass substrate.
Stabilization of clayey soil has been studied from past to present by mixing different additives to the soil to increase its strength and durability. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in stabilization of soils with natural pozzolans. Despite this, very few studies have investigated the impact of pozzolanic additives under freeze-thaw cycling. This paper presents the results of an experimental research study on the durability behavior of clayey soils treated with lime and perlite. For this purpose, soil was stabilized with 6% lime content by weight of dry soil (optimum lime ratio of the the soil), perlite was mixed with it in 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 25% and 30% proportions. Test specimens were compacted in the laboratory and cured for 7, 28 and 84 days, after which they were tested for unconfined compression tests. In addition to this, they were subjected to 12 closed system freeze-thaw cycles after curing for 28 days. The results show that the addition of perlite as a pozzolanic additive to lime stabilized soil improves the strength and durability. Unconfined compressive strength increases with increased perlite content. The findings indicate that using natural pozzolan which is cheaper than lime, has positive effect in strength and durability of soils and can result cost reduction of stabilization.

Concrete surfaces, industrial floors, sidewalks, roads and parking lots are typically subjected to abrasions. Many studies indicated that the abrasion resistance is directly related to the ultimate strength of the cured concrete. Chemical reactions, freeze-thaw cycles, and damages under abrasion are among many factors negatively affecting the concrete strength and durability. One of the major solutions to address the abrasive resistance of the concrete is to use fibers. Fibers are used in the concrete mix to improve the mechanical properties, strength and limit the crack propagations. In this study, implementation of the steel fibers in concrete to enhance the abrasive resistance of the concrete is investigated in details. The abrasive resistance of the concrete with and without steel fibers is studied with the sandblasting technique. For this purpose, different concrete samples are made with various hooked steel fiber ratios and investigated with the sandblasting method for two different strike angles. In total, 144 ASTM verified cube samples are investigated and it is shown that those samples with the highest steel fiber ratios have the highest abrasive resistance. In addition, the experiments determine that there is a meaningful correlation between the steel fiber percentage in the mix, strike angle and curing time which could be considered for improving structural behavior of the fiber-reinforced concrete.
Resonant frequency tuning of micro devices is essential to achieve performance uniformity and high sensitivity. Previously reported frequency tuning methods using electrostatic force or mass deposition are not directly applicable to non-conducting polymer devices and have limitations such as dielectric breakdown or low tunable bandwidth. In this paper, thermally frequency-tunable microactuators with poly-dimethylsiloxane membranes are proposed. Permanent and/or nonpermanent frequency tunings are possible using a simple temperature control of the device. Resonant frequency and Q-factor variations of devices according to temperature change were studied using a micro heater and laser Doppler vibrometer. The initial resonant frequencies determined by polymer curing and hardening temperatures are reversibly tuned by thermal cycles. The measured resonant frequency of 9.7 kHz was tuned up by ${\sim}25%$ and Q-factor was increased from 14.5 to 27 as the micro heater voltage increased from 0 to 70 V.

One of the hot issues in composite patching is to reduce the thermal residual stresses between composite patch and aluminum surface which occurs after bonding of composite patch. In this study, the edge crack patching is adopted for different curing cycles. For the analysis, three layer Mindlin plate elements are used, and Paris' law is adopted to predict the fatigue life of composite patch plate. The analysis results show a good agreement with the experimental fatigue life and this technique can be applied for the prediction of fatigue life of aircraft structures.
From ancient times, the diagnosis method of the oriental medicine has been performed by curing diseases by means of rectifying and adjusting the unbalance in the physiological function of the five viscera and the six bowels of a human body. Diseases have been diagnosed by the condition of blood circulation that cycles a human body through blood vessels by dint of the vitality of the heart. Based on such a systematic pulse diagnosis method, the article presents parameters that will be beneficial to clinical application on the basis of its analysis of the filtering for eliminating noises from pulse signals inputted from sensor group, the digital hardware dealing with signals necessary for recognition algorithm, and the structure of diagnosis algorithm and components of pulse waveform.
Flame-retardant finished silk fabrics could release carcinogenic formaldehyde resulting from the conventional finishing agents. New water-soluble cyclophosphazene derivative can be used as a formaldehyde-free flame retardant for the silk protein. Dichloro tetrakis{N-[3-dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamido}cyclophosphazene(DCTDCP) can be cured by heat or UV irradiation as a durable flame retardant for the silk fabrics. Treatment conditions were optimized including curing temperature and time, finishing formulations, and UV energy. At the 30% DCTDCP application, peak HRR and THR decreased by 42.6% and 49.6% respectively compared to the pristine silk fabrics. Also char residue increased up to 48% from 11% indicating solid-phase retarding mechanism. The flame-retardant silk fabrics showed a LOI of 31.1 and the washed sample maintained a LOI of 26.8 even after ten laundering cycles.

This study investigated the effect of intermittent polymerization on the rate of polymerization shrinkage and cuspal deflection in composite resins. The linear polymerization shrinkage of each composite was measured using the custom-made linometer along with the light shutter specially devised to block the light at the previously determined interval. Samples were divided into 4 groups by light curing method; Group 1) continuous light (60s with light on); Group 2) intermittent light (cycles of 3s with 2s light on & 1s with light off for 90s): Group 3) intermittent light (cycles of 2s with 1s light on & 1s with light off for 120s); Group 4) intermittent light (cycles of 3s with 1s light on & 2s with light off for 180s). The amount of linear polymerization shrinkage was measured and its maximum rate (Rmax) and peak time (PT) in the first 15 seconds were calculated. For the measurement of cuspal deflection of teeth, MOD cavities were prepared in 10 extracted maxillary premolars. Reduction in the intercuspal distance was measured by the custom-made cuspal deflection measuring machine. ANOVA analysis was used for the comparison of the light curing groups and t-test was used to determine significant difference between the composite resins. Pyramid showed the greater amount of polymerization shrinkage than Heliomolar (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the linear polymerization shrinkage among the groups. The Rmax was group 4 < 3, 2 < 1 in Heliomolar and group 3 < 4 < 2, 1 in Pyramid (p < 0.05). Pyramid demonstrated greater cuspal deflection than Heliomolar. The cuspal deflection in Heliomolar was group 4 < 3 < 2, 1 and group 4, 3 < 2, 1 in Pyramid (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the reduced rate of polymerization shrinkage by intermittent polymerization can help to decrease the cuspal deflection.
