Dehydrocoupling of Bis(silyl)alkylbenzenes to Network Polysilanes, Catalyzed by Group 4 Metallocene Combination

  • Bis(silyl)alkylbenzenes such as bis(1-sila-sec-butyl)benzene (1) and 2-phenyl-1,3-disilapropane (2) were synthesized in high yields by the reduction of the corresponding chlorosilanes with $LiAlH_4$ in diethyl ether. The dehydrocoupling of 1 and 2 was performed using group IV metallocene complexes generated in situ from $Cp_2MCl_2$/Red-Al and $Cp_2MCl_2$/n-BuLi (M = Ti, Hf), producing two phases of polymers. The TGA residue yields of the insoluble polymers were in the range of 64-74%. The molecular weights of the soluble polymers produced ranged from 700 to 5000 ($M_w$ vs polystyrene using GPC) and from 500 to 900 ($M_w$ vs polystyrene using GPC). The dehydropolymerization of 1 and 2 seemed to initially produce a low-molecular-weight polymer, which then underwent an extensive cross-linking reaction of backbone Si-H bonds, leading to an insoluble network polymer.

Preparation and Characterization of Chemical Gel Based on [Epoxy/PEG/PVdF-HFP] Blend for Lithium Polymer Battery Applications ([Epoxy/PEG/PVdF-HFP] 복합체를 이용한 리튬고분자전지용 화학겔의 제조 및 분석)

  • In this study, we have designed [Epoxy/PEG] polymer gel electrolyte systems by thermal curing the mixtures of epoxy, PEG, imidazole catalyst, and a plasticizer of 1:1 ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate in the presence of $LiPF_6$ salt. In order to enhance the poor mechanical property of the Corresponding [Epoxy/PEG] gel electrolyte PVdF-HFP was incorporated into the system. The ionic conductivities of the polymer gel electrolytes were related to the amount of PVdF-HFP in blends as well as the amount of liquid electrolyte. The optimized gel system showed room-temperature conductivities of $2.56\times10^{-3}S/cm$.

Properties of Rubbers and Coated Fabrics according to Different Cross-linking Density of Coating Agent (코팅제의 가교 밀도에 따른 고무와 코팅원단의 물성 변화)

  • Silicone rubber is widely used in most industries due to diverse advantages like heat stability, UV stability, durability, chemical resistance, environment friendliness, inertness and so on. But there is limitation to expand applications due to relatively weak rubber strengths such as tensile strength and tear strength, especially in fabric coating applications. The purpose of this study is to find influence of coating agent on performances of rubber and coated fabrics and their correlation according to different crosslinking densities of silicone rubbers. Addition cure type of silicones were formulated using crosslinked MQ-type silicone resin consisting of M (R3SiO1/2) and Q (SiO4/2) and linear polymers. Raw materials used were; 1) linear vinyl endblocked polymers and vinyl functional MQ resin as main polymers, 2) linear silicone hydride polymers as crosslinkers, 3) platinum catalyst and 4) inhibitor to control curing speed. Rubber specimens were prepared to check mechanical strength using universal testing machine (UTM). Crosslinking density was calculated using Flory-Rhener equation using solvent swelling method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) were used to characterize rubbers. Consequently, it was found that physical properties of silicone rubbers and coated fabrics can be expected by crosslinking density of rubbers. Silicone rubber formulations that contain 20 ~ 30 wt% of vinyl MQ resin showed strongest balanced performances.

Synthesis and Characterization of Water-soluble Polyamine Durable Antistatic Agent (수용성 폴리아민 내구성 대전방지제의 합성과 그의 특성화)

  • PEG 600-diglycidyl ethers(PDE) were synthesized using $BF_3$ catalyst by the reaction of epichlorohydrin and PEG 600 which is known to have the hygroscopicity, softening property, and antistatic property. Water-soluble long chain polyamines(PDET) were synthesized by coreaction of PDE and triethylenetetramine which is high conductive aliphatic amine curing agent. To prevent the gelation of the PDET and increase the water-solution stability, water-soluble quaternary ammonium polyamines were synthesized by cationation of PDET with acetic acid. Antistatic agents PDET-2A, PDET-5A, PDET-6A, PDETA-2A and PDETA-4A were prepared by the mixing of PDET-2, PDET-5, PDET-6, PDETA-2 and PDETA-4 with water. Synthesized antistatic agents were treated on PET textiles with and without resin. Then surface electrical resistivity and half life characteristics value were tested. As the results there were no remarkable decreasing changes in antistatic abilities of the textiles treated with PDETA-2A and PDETA-4A after 50 times washing. So PDETA-2A and PDETA-4A were proved to be durable antistatic agents. Surface electrical resistivity of the textiles treated with PDETA-2A and PDETA-4A before washing were $1{\times}10^7{\Omega}$ and $2{\times}10^7{\Omega}$, respectively, and half life characteristics values were 0.8sec and 1.1sec, respectively. Therefore PDETA-2A and PDETA-4A were proved to be good antistatic agents.

  • The microstructures of NATM were examined by SEM, FT-IR spectra, tensile properties, mole % of [NCO/OH], and particle size analyzer. Growing concerns in the environment-friendly industries have led to the development of solvent-free formulations that can be cured. We had synthesized NATM(New Austria Tunnel Method) resin having the ability to protect stainless steel against corrosion. Comparing with general NATM resin and coatings, this resin that synthesized with polyurethane and epoxy was highly stronger in intensity and longer durability. Hybrid resin was composed of polyols, MDI, epoxy, silicone surfactant, catalyst and crosslink agent, and fillers. Moreover, fillers such as fume silica not only accelerated the curing rate but also improved the physical property as thermal barriers. The rigid segments of synthetic resin in mechanical properties were due to fume silica and the increase the mole% of [NCO/OH] for corrosion protection. In conclusion, the hybrid resin microstructure with crosslink agent and fume silica are good material for thermosetting coating of metal substrates such as stainless steel.

A Study on the Preparation of Durable Softening Water-repellenting Agent by Blending Acrylic Copolymer and Fatty Carbamide - I. Water-repellent Finish of Cotton Fabrics - (아크릴 공중합체와 지방산 카르바미드의 블렌딩에 의한 내구유연발수제의 제조에 관한 연구 - I. 면직물에의 발수가공 -)

  • Each of the three cationized compounds synthesized previously, poly(OMA-co-DAMA)[PODC], poly(DMA-co-DAMA)[PDDC] and poly(EMA-co-DAMA)[PEDC] was blended with waxes, emulsifiers and cationized fatty carbamide(ODTCC) synthesized in this study for the preparation of some durable softening water-repellenting agents, PODCW, PDDCW and PEDCW. The results of washability, tearing strength, crease recovery and contact angle of the cotton fabrics treated with PODCW, PDDCW and PEDCW with and without textile finishing resin, showed remarkable improvement of the physical properties. Rating of water repellency of cotton fabric treated with PODCW was 80, but those treated with PDDCW and PEDCW were not high enough to use in industry. Proper curing temperature of the synthesized water-repelleting agents was $140^{\circ}C$; proper using concentration was 3wt%; sodium acetate was the best catalyst for water-repellenting agents among the used, and proper concentration was 0.6wt%. From the results of reaction mechanism of cellulosic fiber with water-repellenting agent and washability of the fibers treated with water-repellenting agents the prepared water-repellenting agent proved to be durable. Surface structures of cotton fabrics treated with water-repellenting agent were investigated by SEM.

Curing and Rheological Behavior of Epoxy Resin Compositions for Underfill (언더필용 에폭시 수지 조성물의 경화 및 유변학적 거동)

  • The cure and rheological behavior of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F/nadic methyl anhydride resin system with the kinds of imidazole were studied using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and a rotational rheometer. The isothermal traces were employed to analyze cure reaction. The DGEBF/ anhydride conversion profiles showed autocatalyzed reaction characterized by maximum conversion rate at $20{\sim}40 %$ of the reaction. The rate constants ($k_1,\;k_2$) showed temperature dependance, but reaction order did not. The reaction order (m+n) was calculated to be close to 3. There are two reaction mechanisms with the kinds oi catalyst. The gel time was determined by using G'-G" crossover method, and the activation energy was obtained from this results. From measurement of rheological properties it was found that the logarithmic 1:elation time of fused silica filled DBEBF epoxy compounds linearly increased with the content of filler and decreased with temperature. The highly filled epoxy compounds showed typical pseudoplastic behavior, and the viscosity of those decreased with increasing maximum packing ratio.

  • Polyurethane waterproof (PW) coatings are increasingly demanded in Korea for repairing cracks on old building roofs and construction of many sporting facilities. Calcium carbonate, a common filler, is incorporated in PW compositions. In this study, PW coatings were prepared by substituting a part of calcium carbonate with fly ash. The maximum amounts of calcium carbonate which can be substituted by fly ash obtained in the cyclone and bag filter dust collectors were 20 and 10%, respectively. It was found that the curing rate of PWs ran be controlled by varying the amount of Pb-octoate catalyst. The elongations at break as well as tensile strength and tear strength of PW coatings containing fly ash could also be adjusted such that their values were comparable to those of a standard PW coating by varying relative amounts of some components. However, the amount of cadmium, mercury, and lead leached from PW coatings containing fly ash obtained from the bag filter collector exceeded the respective allowed upper limits, mainly due to the initial high contents of them in the fly ash. On the other hand, PW coatings containing fly ash obtained from the cyclone collector exhibited better mechanical properties and did not release any significant amounts of the heavy metals. Thus, it was concluded that PW coatings containing fly ash can be utilized for practical applications as long as an appropriate fly ash is used.

Improvement of Bleaching Performance of Photosensitive Electrochromic Device by the Additive of TEMPOL (TEMPOL 첨가제 적용에 의한 광감응형 전기변색 소자 탈색성능 향상)

  • We have developed photosensitive electrochromic smart windows that does not require any transparent conducting oxide (TCO) substrate. In our previous study, we demonstrated that a flexible film-type device made with a low temperature curing WO3 sol and TiO2 sol could show a reversible and rapid switching between colored and bleached state via incorporation of platinum catalysts on the surface of WO3 layer. However, when these devices were exposed to sunlight over 4 hour, it was confirmed that they did not return to fully bleached state in the darkened state due to their overcoloring process. In this study, we added 4-hydroxy-(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl (TEMPOL) as an additive to the electrolyte of photosensitive electrochromic device to effectively prevent the undesired overcoloring process. The resulting device with TEMPOL indeed did not undergo excessive coloration and showed great reversibility even after being exposed to sunlight for over 4 hours. Various concentrations of TEMPOL were applied to compare changes in the visible transmittance and coloring/bleaching kinetics of devices. In terms of energetic point of view, we proposed a plausible mechanism of TEMPOL to prevent excessive coloration.

The Meanings and Values of Korean Wave(Hallyu) for the Reunification of the South Korea and North Korea (통일과정에서의 한류의 의미와 가치)

  • A variety of the approaches to the unification of the South Korea and North Korea have been implemented based on both the view of the national-centered unification and that of the reunification of the South and North Korea as a unit of nation through political, economic, military and diplomatics. A culture itself plays a significant role for people to understand one another through communicating and sharing cultural values. At this point, Korean-Wave called'Hallyu' should have various meanings and values for the reunification of South and North Korea. It has been expanded to the world beyond Asia as an icon of the culture. In this situation, North Korea is not exceptional. In other words, North Korea should be influenced by the Korean wave. Sharing a cultural value about Korean-Wave between South and North Koreans would be a way to speed up the reunification by having a common sense about the national identifications. The culture of Hallyu reflecting on the national identification could be helpful to enhance national pride and play a part for curing for the scarlet letters that they have got since the Korea was divided by two parts. The North Korean government's distorted policy to have blamed for the South Korean governing would be challenged if the Korean-wave would be epidemic in the Korean peninsular. In addition, if the North Koreans would be perceptive to the real freedom and universal value for the humanity, it would be more feasible for two Koreas to be reunified than before. In fact, it must serve as a catalyst for the reunification, two Koreas experiencing the Korean wave as a cultural value. As a result, the reunification for the people should have a meaning of the universal value as like everyone in the world can pursue for their own happiness. Through the Hallyu, That is, the change of the people's perception to the reunification will facilitate the reunification of two Koreas more than we expected.
