  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate 2 years cumulative survival rate of implants on augmented sinus area using MBCP, mixture of MBCP and ICB, and mixture of MBCP and autogenous bone by means of clinical and radiologic methods. Materials and Methods: In a total of 37 patients, 41 maxillary sinuses were augmented and 89 implant fixtures were installed simultaneously or after a regular healing period. The patients were divided in 3 groups: MBCP only, MBCP combined with ICB, MBCP combined with autogenous bone. After delivery of prosthesis, along 2 years of observation period, all implants were evaluated clinically and radiologically. And the results were as follows. Results: The results of this study were as follows. 1. A 2 year cumulative survival rate of implants placed with sinus augmentation procedure using MBCP was 97.75%. 2. Survival rate of implants using MBCP only was 97.62%, MBCP and ICB was 100%, MBCP and autogenous bone was 95%. There was no statistically significant difference between 3 groups. 3. Only 2 of 89 implants were lost before delivery of prosthesis, so it can be regarded as an early failure. And both were successfully restored by wider implants. Conclusion: It can be suggested that MBCP may have predictable result when used as a grafting material of sinus floor augmentation whether combined with other graft(ICB, autogenous bone) or not. And the diameter, length, location of implants did not have a significant effect on 2 year cumulative survival rate.

  • The early exposure of cover screws is a common complication of 2-stage implant technique. The exposure of cover screws between stage I and IT surgery may cause inflammation in the soft tissues surrounding the implants, and lead to peri-implantitis or marginal bone loss. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the early exposure of cover screws on implants placed using 2-stage technique. Two hundred and nineteen implants in 77 patients were examined for cumulative survival rate, radiographic marginal bone level change, cause and frequency of the early exposure. The results were as follows: 1. Twenty-five implants showed early exposure of cover screws with a frequency of 11.4%. 2. Cumulative survival rate of the implants with early cover screw exposure was 88.0%, and that of the implants without cover screw exposure was 96,9%. 3. At the time of stage IT surgery and 1 year after loading, the marginal bone loss was greater around the implants with early exposure of cover screws than around the implants without cover screw exposure(p <0.05), 4, There was no statistically significant difference in the frequency of the early exposure according to the implant diameter, gender, and smoking(p >0,05).

  • Pores produced by carbonization in bulk graphite process degrade the mechanical and electrical properties of bulk graphite. Therefore, the pores of bulk graphite must be reduced and an impregnation process needs to be performed for this reason. In this study, bulk graphite is impregnated by varying the viscosity of the impregnant. The pore volume and pore size distribution, according to the viscosity of the impregnant, are analyzed using a porosimeter. The total pore volume of bulk graphite is analyzed from the cumulative amount of mercury penetrated. The volume for a specific pore size is interpreted as the amount of mercury penetrating into that pore size. This decreases the cumulative amount of mercury penetrating into the recarbonized bulk graphite after impregnation because the viscosity of the impregnant is lower. The cumulative amount of mercury penetrating into bulk graphite before impregnation and after three times of impregnation with 5.1cP are 0.144 mL/g and 0.125 mL/gm, respectively. Therefore, it is confirmed that the impregnant filled the pores of the bulk graphite well. In this study, the impregnant with 5.1 cP, which is the lowest viscosity, shows the best effect for reducing the total pore volume. In addition, it is confirmed by Raman analysis that the impregnant is filled inside the pores. It is confirmed that phenolic resin, the impregnant, exists inside the pores through micro-Raman analysis from the inside of the pore to the outside.

  • Large steel industries have time-varying nonlinear loads such as electric arc furnaces. These nonlinear loads generate harmonic currents and create distortions on the sinusoidal voltage of the power system. The main objective of the static var compensator is to maintain the rms voltage at the point of common coupling within the limit. In this research, harmonic mitigation studies were conducted with and without the SVC, and time-varying harmonics were evaluated according to the international harmonic standards (IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519) using a cumulative probabilistic approach.

  • An analytical study was conducted to investigate the effect of the shape and spacing of modified inclined studs used as shear connector between concrete and steel plate on the cyclic behavior of steel plate concrete (SC) shear wall. 9 different analysis cases were adopted to determine the optimized shape and spacing of stud. As the results, the skeleton curves were obtained from the load-displacement hysteresis curves, and the ultimate and yielding strengths were increased as the spacing of studs decrease. In addition, the strength of inclined studs is shown to be bigger compared to that of conventional studs. The damping ratios increased as the decrease of stiffness ratio. Finally, with decreasing the spacing distance of studs, the cumulative dissipated energy was increased and the seismic performance was improved.

  • An energy balance procedure is developed to incorporate the effects of earthquake duration which involves the effect of cyclic loading and the corresponding cumulative plastic deformation. Particular emphasis is given to the flexural failure of non-seismically designed columns of reinforced concrete frames. For this, conceptual strength deterioration models for columns, governed by concrete, anchorage failure and longitudinal steel fracture due to low-cycle fatigue, are proposed. It is evident that the energy-based method has good agreement with the experimental data and is able to predict the failure mode.
