Instead of using UN COMTRADE data as with other researches on the similar studies, this paper adopts Google Trends query index with keyword 'Korean drama'as a proxy variable for cultural trade. With controlling export determining factors such as GDPs of import and export countries, distance, R&D, and FTA, this paper examines whether the Korean wave represented by Google Trends contributes to the explosive increase of Korean cosmetics export in the recent years. Moreover, this study also investigates the possible effects of the Korean wave on export that could vary according to the different trade groups by classifying import countries into two groups: 74 countries worldwide and 9 ASEAN member countries. The results reveal that the Korean wave indeed leads to cosmetics export to ASEAN countries but show weak relation with cosmetics export to worldwide.

  • The purpose of this study was to review the importance of authoritative parenting for children's social adjustment. From the review it was suggested that the importance of authoritative parenting might be different according to the cultural contexts, which are Western and Asian cultures, and aggressive and social withdrawal behaviors. From the comparative cultural viewpoint, authoritarian parenting is not considered negatively by Asian parents, comparing with Western parents. Therefore the assumption that authoritative parenting has universal positiveness and authoritarian parenting has universal negativeness should be reconsidered. Regardless of cultures, children's aggressive behavior was related to the authoritarian parenting positively. But, in Asia, especially in China, the social withdrawal did not show at least negative relation with authoritative parenting. And it was reported that the authoritarian parenting could contribute to the change of inhibited behavior and enhancing the social adjustment. In addition, some implications were suggested for future researches about the relation between children's social adjustment and child rearing practices. Though this literature review was not exclusively based on the empirical studies, it would be valuable for reconsidering the perspective of Korean developmentalists interested in the relation between parenting and children's development in Korean culture.

  • The purpose of this study is to seek the methods of constructing a cultural information system based on GIS. It is impossible for regional culture to be formed apart from its surrounding space, so a study of culture should be based on realizing the features of its space. It is important to note that the elements composing a culture complicatedly interact with each other in their function and continuously change. Also they are interrelated in space and plentiful in their amount. Nevertheless, those studies practised so far in relation to culture and constructing cultural database are too limited in establishing cultural area or community life area required to recognize the regional identity. So it is now essential that we should study the methods of cultural expression surpassing objective historical and cultural site maps instead of simple maps depicting historical remains or sites. From this viewpoint, this study tries to find various cultural phenomena in relation to their space through seeking the methods of constructing the cultural database model using XML. In addition, this study tries to construct a base for increasing the utilization of information in making the cultural contents.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factor influencing in order to increase the intention to revisit rural experience tourism. 181 men and women who had experienced rural experience tourism were surveyed in a Self-Assessment Questionnaire. Some farming experience, life experience, cultural experience, and leisure experience were set as independent variables as representative programs of rural experience tourism, satisfaction and trust as mediated variables, and relationships as dependent variables. Here, the relationship is regarded as a variable representing the intention to revisit. When performing multi-group path analysis by separating men and women, both men and women had a statistically significant positive (+) effect in the Leisure experience→Satisfaction path and the Trust→Relation path. In addition, the paths that were statistically significant for women were not statistically significant, but were statistically significant only for men were Farm experience→Satisfaction path, Farm experience→Relation path, and Leisure experience→Relation path. In addition, the paths that were not statistically significant for men, but statistically significant for women were Culture experience→Satisfaction and Trust→Satisfaction. According to this study, in order to increase the intention to revisit, both men and women should consider leisure experience. And men should emphasize farming experience, while women should emphasize cultural experience. It is considered that there is a need to further subdivide leisure experience, farming experience and cultural experience for the region. This study has a limitation of only 181 people. More large-scale research will be possible in the future.

  • Fifty ancient Korean coins originated in Choson dynasty have been determined for 9 elements such as Sn, Fe, As, Ag, Co, Sb, Ir, Ru and Ni by instrumental neutron activation analysis and for 3 elements such as Cu, Pb, and Zn by atomicalsorption spectrometry. Bronze coins originated in early days of the dynasty contain as major constituents Cu, Pb and Sn approximately in the ratio 90 : 4 : 3, where as, those in latter days contain in the ratio 7 : 2 : 0. Brass coins which had begun in 17century contain as major constituents Cu, Zn and Pb approximately in the ratio 7 : 1: 1. The multivariate date have been analyzed for the relation among elemental contents through the variance-covariance matrix. The data have been fur theranalyzed by a principal component mapping method. As the results training set of 8class have been chosen, based on the spread of sample points in an eigenvector plotand archaeolgical data such as age and the office of minting.
