Palladium nanoparticles having cubic silsesquioxanes (POSS) (Pd-POSS) were produced by the reaction of palladium (II) acetate and octa(3-aminopropyl)octasilsesquioxane octahydrochloride (POSS-${NH_3}^+$ in methanol at room temperature. Functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT-COOH) were prepared by acid treatment of pristine MWNTs. The hybrid nanocomposites of Pd-POSS and MWNT-COOH (Pd-MWNT nanocomposites) were synthesized by self-assembly method via ionic interaction between positively charged Pd-POSS and negatively charged MWNT-$COO^-$. The spherical aggregates of Pd-POSS with a diameter of 40-60 urn were well attached to the surfaces of MWNT-COOH on Silicon wafer. The composition, structure, and surface morphology of Pd-MWNT nanocomposites were studied by UV-vis spectrophotometer, energy dispersive spectrum (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscope (AFM).

The intersection problem of three-dimensional free form surfaces can be solved by geometrical and numerical methods. Up to now, the subdivision technique, which is classified under the former, has been largely employed to find the cross section of ship hull form. In this paper, an algorithm is presented for intersecting ship hull form in high speed. The high speed calculation algorithm is based on simple numerical methods, such as the secant method, false position method and bisection method. The algorithm is directly applicable to depicting arbitrary ship cross sections, drawing ship lines and constructing the offset table.

A general curve and surface is a basic method to generate Free-form object using the fundamental properties of blending function. In typical method, there is an overhead of calculating to present Free-form object with the line segments and interpolation algorithm, In this paper, for resolving this problem efficiently, it will propose the flexible Free-form curves/surfaces using Ball curve shape-preserving property. This method includes Geometric Continuity that is needed to design Free-form Surface of high degree consisted with many curves. Also, when lots of data are reduced using Geometric Property of Free-form curves, the shape-preserving property of resulting object can be maintained, then it can represent any Free-form object with less calculating .
In this paper, we present a study of the structure and electro-optic behavior of hybrid liquid-crystal-silica sphere composite photonic crystals, formed by filling the (26% by volume) void space of fee (face centered cubic) silica opals infiltrated with a nematic liquid crystal. Three dimensional photonic crystals of visible range were fabricated via a self assembly method of silica spheres of submicron diameter. The expected fee structure was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the dehydrated crystal with glass removed. The photonic crystal exhibited significant electric-field-induced shift of the optical Bragg reflection peak when the liquid crystal has the long molecular axis oriented parallel to the sphere surfaces.
Kriging is a nonparametric regression method used in geostatistics for estimating curves and surfaces for spatial data. It may come as a surprise that the Kriging estimator, normally derived as the best linear unbiased estimator, is also the solution of a particular variational problem. Thus, Kriging estimators can also be interpreted as generalized smoothing splines where the roughness penalty is determined by the covariance function of a spatial process. We build off the early work by Silverman (1982, 1984) and the analysis by Cox (1983, 1984), Messer (1991), Messer and Goldstein (1993) and others and develop an equivalent kernel interpretation of geostatistical estimators. Given this connection we show how a given covariance function influences the bias and variance of the Kriging estimate as well as the mean squared prediction error. Some specific asymptotic results are given in one dimension for Matern covariances that have as their limit cubic smoothing splines.

This paper presents some of the efforts by the authors towards numerical prediction of springing of ships. A time-domain Higher Order Boundary Element Method (HOBEM) based on cubic shape function is first presented to solve a complete second-order problem in terms of wave steepness and ship motions in a consistent manner. In order to avoid high order derivatives on the body surfaces, e.g. mj-terms, a new formulation of the Boundary Value Problem in a body-fixed coordinate system has been proposed instead of traditional formulation in inertial coordinate system. The local steady flow effects on the unsteady waves are taken into account. Double-body flow is used as the basis flow which is an appropriate approximation for ships with moderate forward speed. This numerical model was used to estimate the complete second order wave excitation of springing of a displacement ship at constant forward speeds.
Most interaction schemes in virtual environment are indirect in one way or another. ln particular, without a haptic device (which introduces its own problems due to its cumbersomeness), users must rely on visual (or/and aural) feedback, and can not directly appreciate the 3Dness of the interaction object even with stereoscopy. This causes a drop in object presence because people are used to, for instance, observing objects in one's hand, rotating and manipulating them with physical contact. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposes a hand-held cubic screen, named TangibleScreen, on which the appearance of the target interaction object is projected. We choose the Relief Texture Mapping as the rendering method to correctly generate the viewer dependent textures to be projected on the non-planar surfaces of the TangibleScreen.

A new linkage framework between elastic shell element with finite rotation and computar-aided geometric design (CAGD) (or surface is developed in the present study. The framework of shell finite element is based on the generalized curved two-parametric coordinate system. To represent free-form surface, cubic B-spline tensor-product functions are used. Thus the present finite element can be directly linked into the geometric modeling produced by surface generation tool in CAD software. The efficiency and accuracy of the Previously developed linear elements hold for the nonlinear element with finite rotations. To handle the finite rotation behavior of shells, exponential mapping in the SO(3) group is employed to allow the large incremental step size. The integrated frameworks of shell geometric design and nonlinear computational analysis can serve as an efficient tool in shape and topological design of surfaces with large deformations.

A new collolidal silver (Ag) system is present in which a fine colloidal Ag is in situ deposited onto functionalized porous poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (poly (EGDMA)) microspheres. The effectiveness of Ag deposition was investigated considering the surface characteristics of poly (EGDMA) microspheres, The result reported in this study illustrates that the control of surface area and surface functionality (in this study, a hydroxyl group) of poly (EGDMA) microspheres is an important factor that determines practically the degree of deposition of colloidal Ag. The x-ray analysis showed that Ag nanoparticles were dispersed evenly inner and outer surfaces and has a face center cubic(fcc) phase. In the preservation test, the Ag-containing poly (EGDMA) microspheres had a powerful anti-bacterial performance, showing a high potential for a new preservative.

Heteroepitaxial growth of cubic silicon carbide films on Si(001) and Si(111) substrates at temperatures 900-$1000^{\circ}C$ has been achieved by high vacuum chemical vapor deposition using the single precursor 1, 3-disilabutane without carrying out the carbonization process of the substrate surfaces. The deposition temperature range is much lowered compared with conventiontional chemical vapor deposition where separate sources for silicon and carbon are employed. The deposition procedure is quite simple and safe. The qualities of the films were found to be very good judging from the results obtained by various characterization techniques including reflection high energy electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, X-ray pole figure analysis, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, Auger depth profiling, and transmission electron diffraction.
