The hydrological simulation program FORTRAN (HSPF) is a comprehensive watershed model that employs the hydraulic function table (FTABLE) (depth-area-volume-flow relationship) to represent the geometric and hydraulic properties of water bodies. The hydraulic representation of the HSPF model mainly depends on the accuracy of the FTABLES. These hydraulic representations determine the response time of water quality state variables and also control the scour, deposition, and transport of sediments in the water body. In general, FTABLES are automatically generated based on reach information such as mean depth, mean width, length, and slope along with a set of standard assumptions about the geometry and hydraulics of the channel, so these FTABLES are unable to accurately describe the geometry and hydraulic behavior of rivers and reservoirs. In order to compensate the weakness of HSPF for hydraulic modeling, we generated alternate method to improve the accuracy of FTABLES for rivers, using the surveyed cross sections and rating curves. The alternative method is based on the hydraulics simulated by HEC-RAS using the surveyed cross sections and rating curves, and it could significantly improve the accuracy of FTABLES. Although the alternate FTABLE greatly improved the hydraulic accuracy of the HSPF model, it had little effect on the hydrological simulation.
Based on the Butler scattering kernel for D$_2$O, a computer code DEUKEB has been developed to compute the scattering laws, differential scattering cross sections and total scattering cross sections. Interference scattering between ally two atoms of a D$_2$O molecule is important in resolving the distribution of scattered neutrons in thermal energy region. Energy-transfer scattering cross sections are, therefore, studied in the various incident neutron energies. This study may be put in practice to utilize the kernel in determining the neutron spectrum in a reactor system. The study also shows that the scattering process in D$_2$O is somewhat different from that in $H_2O$.
Twenty six pressure models of high rise buildings with various cross-sections including twisted models were tested in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The cross-sections were triangular, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, dodecagon, circular, and clover. This study investigates variations in peak pressures, and effects of various cross-sections and twist angles on peak pressures. To study the effects of various configurations and twist angles on peak pressures in detail, maximum positive and minimum negative peak pressures at each measurement point of the building for all wind directions are presented and discussed. The results show that peak pressures greatly depend on building cross-section and twist angle.
Due to the limitation of the computers, the conventional homogenization method is based on many assumptions and approximations, and some tough problems such as energy spectrum and boundary condition are faced. To deal with those problems, the Monte Carlo global homogenization is adopted. The Reactor Monte Carlo code RMC is used to study the global homogenization method, and the one-step global homogenization method is proposed. The superimposed mesh geometry is also used to divide the physical models, leading to better geometric flexibility. A set of multigroup homogenization cross sections is online generated for each mesh under the real neutron energy spectrum and boundary condition, the cross sections are adjusted by the superhomogenization method, and no leakage correction is required. During the process of superhomogenization, the author-developed reactor core program NLSP3 is used for global calculation, so the global flux distribution and equivalent homogenization cross sections could be solved simultaneously. Meanwhile, the calculated homogenization cross section could accurately reconstruct the non-homogenization flux distribution and could also be used for fine calculation. This one-step global homogenization method was tested by a PWR assembly and a small reactor model, and the results show the validity.
The effects of nuclear data uncertainties are studied on a typical PWR fuel assembly model in the framework of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency UAM (Uncertainty Analysis in Modeling) expert working group. The "Fast Total Monte Carlo" method is applied on a model for the Monte Carlo transport and burnup code SERPENT. Uncertainties on $k_{\infty}$, reaction rates, two-group cross sections, inventory and local pin power density during burnup are obtained, due to transport cross sections for the actinides and fission products, fission yields and thermal scattering data.
As an efficient way of modeling bodies of complicated shapes, the sweeping and skinning operations have been implemented. These two operations are very powerful modeling method when the body is defined by the cross sections at various locations. For the implementation, the data structure for storing the cross sections and the resulting three dimensional body has been constructed. The resulting object is defined by the boundary representation based on the non-uniform nonperiodic B-spline surface.
Design curves have been prepared for prestressed rectangular beam section based on BS 8110, for determining area of steel for any given cross section, for stresses in concrete and steel and for the design moment. The design moment and the area of steel have been expressed in dimensionless form in terms of cross sectional dimensions and the characteristic strength of concrete. The choice and combination of design parameters result in considerably less number of curves as aid for design of rectangular prestressed beam sections, than those reported in CP 110 (Part 3).
Circular-to-rectangular transition ducts are used as exhaust components of high performance fighter aircraft with vectored thrust nozzles. Three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes solver is used to analyze the transition duct. Cross sections of transition duct are defined by superelliptic equation. The grid system is generated by Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline, after generating surface grid by blending the cross sections. Good agreement between the results of the computational simulation and the experimental data is observed.

A two-dimensional cross-section analysis program based on the finite element method has been developed for composite blades with arbitrary cross-section profiles and material distributions. The modulus weighted approach is used to take into account the non-homogeneous material characteristics of advanced blades. The CLPT (Classical Lamination Plate Theory) is applied to obtain the effective moduli of the composite laminate. The location of shear center for any given cross-sections are determined according to the Trefftz' definition while the torsion constants are obtained using the St. Venant torsion theory. A series of benchmark examples for beams with various cross-sections are illustrated to show the accuracy of the developed cross-section analysis program. The cross section cases include thin-walled C-channel, I-beam, single-cell box, NACA0012 airfoil, and KARI small-scale blades. Overall, a reasonable correlation is obtained in comparison with experiments or finite element analysis results.

In this paper, we propose the cross-section processing method which is simple in describing the SHGC of objects in a range image and which can describe the SHGC of occluded objects for the recognition of 3D objects. This method produces the cross-sections of an object along the assumed axis of the SHGC and describes the SHGC of the object by processing the produced cross-sections of the object using $\psi$ -S curves with invariant properties in position and size. Our method is simple in a process and can descirbe the SHGC of partially occluded objects because it uses range images with 3-D informations of objects without matching contours of objects with a model base. Thus it is a useful description method of a range image for the recognition of 3D objects shaped in SHGC form and we proved the usefulness of it in experiments.
