  • This paper first proposes a technique to separate clean speech signals and mixed noise signals by using an independent vector analysis algorithm of frequency band for 4 channel speech source signals with a noise. An improved output speech signal from the proposed independent vector analysis algorithm is obtained by using the cross-correlation between the signal outputs from the frequency domain delay-sum beamforming and the output signals separated from the proposed independent vector analysis algorithm. In the experiments, the proposed algorithm improves the maximum SNRs of 10.90dB and the segmental SNRs of 10.02dB compared with the frequency domain delay-sum beamforming algorithm for the input mixed noise speeches with 0dB and -5dB SNRs including white noise, respectively. Therefore, it can be seen from this experiment and consideration that the speech quality of this proposed algorithm is improved compared to the frequency domain delay-sum beamforming algorithm.

  • Accurate response analysis of long span bridges subjected to seismic excitation is important for earthquake hazard mitigation. In this paper, the performance of a typical four span continuous reinforced concrete bridge model subjected to asynchronous multiple seismic excitations at the supports is investigated in both the time and frequency domains and the results are compared with that from a relevant uniform support excitations. In the time domain analysis, a linear modal superposition approach is used to compute the peak response values. In the frequency domain analysis, linear random vibration theory is used to determine the root mean square response values where the cross correlation effects between the modal and the support excitations on the seismic response of the bridge model are included. From the two sets of results, a practical range of peak factors which are defined to be the ratio of peak and the root mean square responses are suggested for displacements and forces in members. With reliable practical values of peak factors, the frequency domain analysis is preferred for the performance based design of bridges because of the computational advantage and the generality of the results as the time domain analysis only yields results for the specific excitation input.

  • This study is intended to compare the performances of sound source localization methods used for stable automobile control by improving voice recognition rate in automobile environment and suggest how to improve their performances. Generally, sound source location estimation methods employ the TDOA algorithm, and there are two ways for it; one is to use a cross correlation function in the time domain, and the other is GCC-PHAT calculated in the frequency domain. Among these ways, GCC-PHAT is known to have stronger characteristics against echo and noise than the cross correlation function. This study compared the performances of the two methods above in automobile environment full of echo and vibration noise and suggested the use of a median filter additionally. We found that median filter helps both estimation methods have good performances and variance values to be decreased. According to the experimental results, there is almost no difference in the two methods' performances in the experiment using voice; however, using the signal of a song, GCC-PHAT is 10% more excellent than the cross correlation function in terms of the recognition rate. Also, when the median filter was added, the cross correlation function's recognition rate could be improved up to 11%. And in regarding to variance values, both methods showed stable performances.

  • Hypersensitivity of cells lacking Brcal to DNA interstrand .ross-link (ICL) agents such as cisplatin and mitomycin C(MMC) implicates the important role of Brcal in cellular response following ICL treatment. Brca1 plays an essential role in DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair through homologous recombination (HR)-dependent and -independent process. Recently, our group has been reported that Brca1 involves in cellular ICL response through HR-dependent repair process (Yun J. et at., Oncogene 2005). In this report, the involvement of Brca1 protein in HR-independent repair process is examined using isogenic $p53^{-/-}\;and\;p53^{-/-}\;Brcal^{-/-}$ mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) and psoralen cross-linked reporter reactivation assay. Brcal-deficient MEFs showed significantly low HR-independent repair activity compare to Brca1-proficient MEFs. Hypersensitivity to MMC and ICL reporter repair activity were restored by the reconstitution of Brca1 expression. Interestingly, MEFs expressing exon 11-deleted isoform of Brca1 $(Brca1^{\Delta11/\Delta11})$ showed high resistance to MMC and ICL reporter repair activity comparable to Brca1-reconstituted MEFs. Taken together, these results suggest that Brca1 involves in ICL repair through not only HR-dependent process but also HR-independent process using N-terminal RINC finger domain or C-terminal BRCT domain rather than exon 11 region which mediate interaction with Rad50.

  • High-quality sea-ice surface models generated from aerial images can be used effectively as field data for developing satellite-based remote sensing methods but also as analysis data for understanding geometric variations of Arctic sea-ice. However, the lack of texture information on sea-ice surfaces can reduce the accuracy of image matching. In this paper, we analyze the performance of matching cost functions for homogeneous sea-ice surfaces as a part of high-quality sea-ice surface model generation. The matching cost functions include sum of squared differences (SSD), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and zero-mean normalized cross-correlation (ZNCC) in image domain and phase correlation (PC), orientation correlation (OC), and gradient correlation (GC) in frequency domain. In order to analyze the matching performance for texture changes clearly and objectively, a new evaluation methodology based on the principle of object-space matching technique was introduced. Experimental results showed that it is possible to secure reliability and accuracy of image matching only when optimal search windows are variably applied to each matching point in textureless regions such as sea-ice surfaces. Among the matching cost functions, NCC and ZNCC showed the best performance for texture changes.

  • In this paper, plasma modeling is achieved using fluid dynamics, thereby electron density is derived. The way proposes the key to overcoming the limitations of conventional researches which adopt simplified plasma model. The result is coupled with Maxwell-Boltzmann system in order to calculate scattering waves in various incident angle. The first part is dedicated to perform plasma modeling in dielectric barrier discharge(DBD) structure. Suzen-Huang model is adopted among various models due to the fact that it uses time independent variables to calculated potential and electron distribution in static system. The second part deals with finite difference time domain(FDTD) scheme which computes the scattered waves when the modulated Gaussian pulse is incident. Founded on it, radar cross section(RCS) is observed. Consequently, RCS is decreased by 1~2 dB with DBD plasma. The result is analogous to the RCS measurement in other researches.

  • In this paper, as a way of improving the availability and spectral efficiency of radio relay system, a co-channel radio relay system based upon the synchronous digital hierarchy is developed and its performance measured by 64-QAM with a never-seen multi-purpose ASIC chip is illustrated. This system provides a couple of transmission capacity compared with alternative channel arrangement. By adopting a powerful complex 13-tap adaptive time domain equalizer and cross-pol interference canceller, improvement of more than 1.5 ~ 2.0 dB in signature is obtained in comparison to 9 or 11-tap adaptive time domain equalizer, and about 22.5 dB in improvement factor of cross-pol interference canceller is achieved at C/N of 24.5 dB. In addition, digital filter makes it possible to optimize the occupied bandwidth by selecting an appropriate roll-off factor externally. It is expected that co-channel radio relay system with the powerful multi-purpose ASIC chip plays a key role in creating a value-added product, reliability, and reducing the outage time.

  • The BPEL is standard of workflow. A domain experts not familiar with programming languages and he can write workflow. But he need new function without BPEL. We must develop or modify a BPEL engine for new functions. This method is expensive. In this paper, We propose the XAS4B documents that extend the XML schema. And We describe method that can process new function in BPEL using Aspect-Oriented Programming. AOP can cross-cut concern adding to core concern using weaving without modification. We use an existing B2J (BPEL to JAVA) engine that is transfer a BPEL's document to a JAVA program and B2J execute a JAVA program. This system adding new functions to BPEL's flow using AOP. In this system, A JAVA program is core concern and a program of new function is cross-cut concern. And this system weave a JAVA program made in B2J and a program of new function. This method provide abstract grammar for new functions. And domain experts can easily write new function is a BPEL Document and reuse new function using abstract grammar.

  • Aiming at motion analysis and compensation, it is essential to conduct motion detection with images. However, motion detection and tracking from low-altitude images obtained from an unmanned aerial system may pose many challenges due to degraded image quality caused by platform motion, image instability and illumination fluctuation. This research tackles these challenges by proposing a modified joint transform correlation algorithm which includes two preprocessing strategies. In spatial domain, a modified fuzzy edge detection method is proposed for preprocessing the input images. In frequency domain, to eliminate the disturbance of self-correlation items, the cross-correlation items are extracted from joint power spectrum output plane. The effectiveness and accuracy of the algorithm has been tested and evaluated by both simulation and real datasets in this research. The simulation experiments show that the proposed approach can derive satisfactory peaks of cross-correlation and achieve detection accuracy of displacement vectors with no more than 0.03pixel for image pairs with displacement smaller than 20pixels, when addition of image motion blurring in the range of 0~10pixel and 0.002variance of additive Gaussian noise. Moreover, this paper proposes quantitative analysis approach using tri-image pairs from real datasets and the experimental results show that detection accuracy can be achieved with sub-pixel level even if the sampling frequency can only attain 50 frames per second.
