  • A 2.1 kb cDNA clone for rat transketolase was isolated from rat liver ${\lambda}gt11$ cDNA library and its sequence was determined. The predicted rat transketolase (655 amino acids with $M_r$ 71,186) is highly similar (92%) to that of the human enzyme except that it contains an extra 32 amino acids at its N-terminus. Although it is less similar (<27%) to transketolases from non-mammalian species, the functional motifs such as the catalytic sites and thiamine binding domain are well conserved in the rat enzyme. Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA verified that transketolase appears to be derived from a single gene. Immunoblot and Northern blot analyses suggested that hepatic transketolase was activated pretranslationally by a 2.1-fold while little change was observed in brain enzyme, indicating a tissue-specific pretranslational activation during postnatal development.

  • The radar cross section (RCS) of a warship is one of the most important design features in terms of her survivability in hostile environments. Ocean waves continuously changes the attitude of an objective warship to hostile radar and distorts the RCS as a result. This paper presents a dynamic RCS analysis technique and procedure that considers temporal ship motion. First, data sets are prepared for ship motions in 6 degrees of freedom, which are numerically simulated for an objective warship via frequency to time domain conversion with response amplitude operators and specified ocean wave spectra. Second, a series of RCS analysis models are transformed geometrically by referring to ship motion data sets. Finally, temporal RCS analyses are carried out with the RCS simulation code, SYSCOS. As an example, RCS analysis results are given for a virtual warship, which show that ship motions temporally change RCS values and cause RCS reduction compared with static value in terms of mean values.

  • In this paper, we propose a cross-correlation property and a related technique based on the validity of image block in a public watermarking and we embed messages into the high frequency band in the DCT domain because of its imperceptibility and fragility. As a result, we were able to inspect the identity of valid block between error corrected original images and watermarked images through experiments. And we confirmed the viability of this cross-correlation as an application for future public watermarking.

  • An automatized latency calculation method of an e-OAE(evoked otacoustic emission) is proposed. The e-OAE signal measured from a normal adult is averaged 1000 times to remove noises. This averaged signal is converted to digital signal and that is processed by IBM-AT computer for latency calculation. we separate the stimulated and the emitted signal on the time domain by a modified LPC (linear prediction coding) spectrum, and the latency is calculated by cross-correlation method. By proposed latency calculation method the latency is 7.9[ms] for normal adult. The performance of the proposed method is also compared with that of the auto-correlation and cross performance of the proposed method is also compared with that of the auto-correlation and cross-correlation method. The result show that the proposed method has same precision with the conventional methods and can automatically calculate latency without subjective observation.

  • In this study, in order to analyze the low-temperature sintering process of silver and copper nanoparticles, we calculate their melting temperatures and surface melting temperatures with respect to particle size. For this calculation, we introduce the concept of mean-squared displacement of the atom proposed by Shi (1994). Using a parameter defined by the vibrational component of melting entropy, we readily obtained the surface and bulk melting temperatures of copper and silver nanoparticles. We also calculated the absorption cross-section of nanoparticles for variation in the wavelength of light. By using the calculated absorption cross-section of the nanoparticles at the melting temperature, we obtained the laser threshold energy for the sintering process with respect to particle size and wavelength of laser. We found that the absorption cross-section of silver nanoparticles has a resonant peak at a wavelength of close to 350 nm, yielding the lowest threshold energy. We calculated the intensity distribution around the nanoparticles using the finite-difference time-domain method and confirmed the resonant excitation of silver nanoparticles near the wavelength of the resonant peak.

  • There are many techniques for underwater source localization. These are the methods based on TDOA (Time Difference Of Arrival) estimation. beamforming techniques and high resolution techniques, etc. In this Paper we estimate the underwater source position using MCPSP (Modified Cross Power Spectrum Phase) function that is calculated on frequency domain using sensors of small number. However, the performances of the localizing method based on MCPSP function drops greatly in the case of CW (Continuous Wave) signal . In this Paper we proposed the TDOA estimation method for pulsed CW signal. In the Proposed method we composed of new segment including a edge of ping. This segment was computed by short-time energy detection. With theoretical representation the performances of the proposed method were analyzed under various environment.

  • This paper describes a continuum variational formulation for design optimization of nonlinear structures in the elastic-plastic domain, where unloading and reloading of the structures are allowed to occur. The Total Lagrangian procedure is used for the description of the structural deformation. The direct differentiation approach is used to derive the sensitivities of the various structural response measures with respect to the design parameters. Since the material goes into the inelastic range and unloading and reloading of the structure are allowed to occur, the structural response is path dependent and an additional step is needed to integrate the constitutive equations. It can be shown, consequently, that design sensitivity analysis is also path-dependent. The theory has been discretized by the finite element technique and implemented in a structural analysis code. Mathematical programming approach is used for the optimization process. Numerical applications on trusses are performed, where cross-sectional areas and nodal point coordinates are treated as design variables. Optimal designs have been obtained and compared by using two different strategies: a two level strategy where the levels are defined accordingly the type of design variables, cross sectional areas or node coordinates, and optimizing simultaneously with respect to both types of design variables.

  • In accurate prediction of cross-flow based on detailed knowledge of the velocity field in subchannels of a nuclear fuel assembly is of importance in nuclear fuel performance analysis. In this study, the low-Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model has been adopted in too adjacent subchannels with cross-flow. The secondary flow is accurately estimated by the anisotropic algebraic Reynolds stress model. This model was numerically calculated by the finite element method and has been verified successfully through comparison with existing experimental data. Finally, with the numerical analysis of the velocity Held in such subchannel domain, an analytical correlation of the lateral loss coefficient is obtained to predict the cross-flow rate in subchannel analysis codes. The correlation is expressed as a function of the ratio of the lateral How velocity to the donor subchannel axial velocity, recipient channel Reynolds number and pitch-to-diameter.

  • The cause of Huntington's disease (HD) is a pathological expansion of the polyglutamine domain within the N-terminal region of huntingtin. Neuronal aggregates composed of mutant huntingtin within certain neuronal populations are a characteristic hallmark of HD. Because tissue transglutaminase (tTG) cross-links proteins into aggregates and polypeptide-bound glutamines are primary determining factors for tTG-catalyzed reactions, it has been hypothesized that tTG may contribute to the formation of aggregates. • This paper proposes a new absorbing boundary condition(ABC) for the FDTD simulation of waveguide problems. It is based on the exact analytic expression for the time domain EM wave propatation in the waveguide. The ABC derived from the expression has a convolution form whose kernel (the discrete Green's function) has a simple, closed form formula. Also, it is applicable to the wide variety of waveguide types with conducting boundaries and complex cross-sectional shapes.
