In most LMFBR(Liquid Metal Fast Breed Reactor) design, the operating temperature is very high and the time-dependent creep and stress-rupture effects become so important in reactor structural design. Therefore, unlike with conventional PWR, the normal operating conditions can be basically dominant design loading because the hold time at elevated temperature condition is so long and enough to result in severe total creep ratcheting strains during total service lifetime. In this paper, elevated temperature design of the conceptually designed baffle annulus regions of KALIMER(Korea Advanced Liquid MEtal Reactor) reactor internal strictures is carried out for normal operating conditions which have the operating temperature 53$0^{\circ}C$ and the total service lifetime of 30 years. For the elevated temperature design of reactor internal structures, the ASME Code Case N-201-4 is used. Using this code, the time-dependent stress limits, the accumulated total inelastic strain during service lifetime, and the creep-fatigue damages are evaluated with the calculation results by the elastic analysis under conservative assumptions. The application procedures of elevated temperature design of the reactor internal structures using ASME Code Case N-201-4 with the elastic analysis method are described step by step in detail. This paper will be useful guide for actual application of elevated temperature design of various reactor types accounting for creep and stress-rupture effects.
The apparent activation energy, the applied stress exponent, and rupture life have been measured from creep experiments over the range of $200^{\circ}C$ to $220^{\circ}C$ and the applied stress range of 64MPa to 94MPa. The materials were used AZ31 magnesium alloys treated by plasma electrolytic oxidation of $20{\mu}m$ and $40{\mu}m$ at surface to investigate the its influence on creep behavior, and creep tests were carried out under constant applied stress and temperature. The experimental results showed that the dipper the thickness of surface treatment the higher the activation energy and stress exponent. And the higher temperature and applied stress, the lower stress exponent and activation energy, respectively. Also the dipper the thickness of surface treatment the longer creep rupture time.
In this paper, the elevated temperature tensile properties and short-time creep rupture characteristics were investigated for the friction welded joints of dissimilar materials, Cu-1%Cr-0.5%Zr and STS316L. The joining tests on Cu-1%Cr-0.5%Zr/STS316L by friction welding were performed, and optimum joining conditions of the friction welded joints were determined. The characteristics of the elevated temperature tensile strength, hardness, fractographs were examined, and the creep rupture characteristics for the optimum welded joints were investigated under uniaxal static load at 300, 400 and $500^{\circ}C$.
The boiler tubes and steam Pipes operating both at high temperature and pressure for a long period of time in a power plant are degraded by creep because of internal pressure. So, the remaining life of a component is evaluated by the creep rupture strength. Although the conventional method to evaluate the creep damage is widely used, it has some disadvantages such as requires large size specimen and long employed to evaluate the correlation between fracture toughness and evaluation time. Recently, new method so called "small lunch test' is used to evaluate degradation of creep. In this study, a conventional creep test and a small punch test are conducted using 2.25Cr-1Mo steel which is mainly used for the boiler tubes and steam pipes in power plant. The creep life, approximately 1,500 hrs, is determined by conventional method under a severe condition then specimens for a small Punch test are obtained after certain time intervals such as 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of final rupture time, respectively.
Commercially pure copper is tested to obtain creep curves at 2500C. Constitutive relations adopting continuum damage mechanics concept is found to be appropriate to model the creep defor mation up to the tertiary stage. Microscopic observation by SEM reveals that creep condition induces cavities and microcracks subsequently. The constitutive equations along with evaluated creep parameters are implemented into finite element analysis code. The analysis reproduces creep curves under step loading as well as constant loading with reasonable accuracy. Distribution and evolution of damage under creep loading are numerically simulated for two different types of notched specimen. Predicted creep life agrees quite well with rupture test results. The influence of mesh size at notch tip on rupture time prediction is studied, and a degree of refinement is suggested for the specific notched specimens.
The characteristics of the probability distribution for mechanical properties, e.g. tensile strength, reduction of area ana elongation, for STS304 stainless steel in elevated temperature were investigated from tensile test performed by constant cross head speea controls with 1mm/min, Recently, in order to clarify the strengthening mechanisms at high temperature, a new scheme to improve high temperature mechanical properties is desired. Therefore, the test ,technique development of high temperature creep behaviors for this material is very important. In this paper, the creep praperties and creep life prediction by Larson-Miller parameter method for STS304 stainless steel to be used for other high temperature components were presented at the elevated temperatures of 600, 650 and $700^{\circ}C$.
Recently small punch creep testing (or miniature disc bend creep test) has received much attention through European collaborative research projects. This method was considered as a substitute for the conventional creep rupture testing by which the residual creep life is measured from the specimen taken out from serviced components of high temperature plants. It would be beneficial if the material creep properties such as power law creep constants as well as the creep rupture life can be measured from the small punch creep test. In this paper a method of assessing creep constants from the small punch creep testing is proposed. Finite element analyses were performed to investigate evolution of stress and strain rate at the weakest locations of the small punch creep specimen. Elastic-plastic-secondary creep analyses were carried out. The estimation equations for creep constants by the small punch creep testing are proposed based on the finite analysis results. Small punch creep tests were also performed with 9Cr steel and the accuracy of the proposed equation was verified by the experimental results.
