  • A new elastic-plastic-creep constraint parameter is proposed to quantify the effect of constraint on creep crack initiation times. It represents the difference between the transient elastic-plastic-creep crack-tip opening stress and the Riedel-Rice opening stress field in plane strain, which can be determined analytically. Application of the proposed parameter to a large set of creep crack growth test data using C(T) and SEN(B) specimens of Type 316H stainless steel at 550℃ shows that creep crack initiation times can be more accurately characterized by the C⁎-integral together with the proposed parameter.

  • Thermal creep properties of the advanced zirconium fuel claddings named by HANA alloys which were developed for high burn-up application were evaluated. The creep test of HANA cladding tubes was carried out by the internal pressurization method in temperature range from 350 to $400^{\circ}C$ and in the hoop stress range from 100 to 150 MPa. Creep tests were lasted up to 800 days, which showed the steady-state secondary creep rate. The creep resistance of HANA fuel claddings was affected by final annealing temperature and various factors, such as alloying element, applied stress and testing temperature. From the results the microstructure observation of the samples before and after creep test by using TEM, the dislocation density was increased in the sample of after creep test. The Sn as an alloying element was more effective in the creep resistance than other elements such as Nb, Fe, Cr and Cu due to solute hardening effect of Sn. In case of HANA fuel claddings, the improved creep resistance was obtained by the control of final heat treatment temperature as well as alloying element.

  • The factors affecting the long-term design strength of geogrid can be classified into factors on creep deformation, installation damage, temperature, chemical degradation and biological degradation. Especially, creep deformation and installation damage are considered as main factors to determine the long-term design strength of geogrid. Current practice in the design of reinforced soil is to calculate the long-term design strength of a reinforcement damaged during installation by multiplying the two partial safety factors, $RF_{ID} and RF_{CR}$. This method assumes that there is no synergy effect between installation damage and creep deformation of geogrids. Therefore, this paper describes the results of a series of experimental study, which are carried out to assess the combined effect of installation damage and creep deformation for the long-term design strength of geogrid reinforcement. The results of this study show that the tensile strength reduction factors, RF, considering combined effect between installation damage and creep deformation is less than that calculated by the current design method.

  • This paper attempts to quantify the effect of mismatch in creep properties on steady-state stress distributions for a welded branch vessel. A particular geometry for the branch vessel is chosen. The vessel is modeled by only two materials, the base and weld metal. Idealized power law creep laws with the same creep exponents are assumed for base and weld metals. A mismatch factor is introduced, as a function of the creep constant and exponent. Steady-state stress distributions within the weld metal, resulting from threedimensional, elastic-creep finite element (FE) analyses, are then characterized by the mismatch factor. We can find that average stresses in the weld can be characterized by the mis-match factor. And there is an analogy between elastic-creep and elastic-perfectly plastic.

  • Thermal creep is a key property of zircaloy cladding. CZ developed by CGN is a new zircaloy used as PWR fuel cladding. This research is devoted to investigating the thermal creep behavior of CZ and build the thermal creep model of CZ. Twenty internal pressure creep tests were conducted, and the ranges of temperature and Tresca stress were 320-430 ℃ and 70-300 MPa, respectively. Real-time creep data were analyzed by separating primary creep and steady-state creep. Based on Soderberg model and creep test data, CZ thermal creep model is derived. As a whole, the mean value and the standard deviation of P/M of CZ saturated primary creep strain are very close to these from steady-state creep rate, however, the predictive effect of primary creep is less satisfactory. Four conditions, where there exists large deviation between predicted values and test data, are 320 ℃ and 300 MPa, 350 ℃ and 190 MPa, 380 ℃ and 160 MPa, 380 ℃ and 190 MPa, respectively. As primary creep was much smaller than steady-state creep in long-time operation, the thermal creep model built can be applied to predict the thermal creep behavior of CZ cladding.

  • The effect of tensile hold time on the creep-fatigue interaction in AISI 316 stainless steel was investigated. To study the fatigue characteristics of the material, strain controlled low cycle fatigue(LCF) tests were carried out under the continuous triangular waveshape with three different total strain ranges of 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%. To study the creep-fatigue interaction, 5min., 10min., and 30min. of tensile hold times were applied to the continuous triangular waveshape with the same three total strain ranges. The creep-fatigue life was found to be the longest when the 5min. tensile hold time was applied and was the shortest when the 30min. tensile hold time was applied. The cause fur the shortest creep-fatigue life under the 30min. tensile hold time is believed to be the effect of the increased creep damage per cycle as the hold time increases. The creep-fatigue life prediction using artificial neural network(ANN) showed closer prediction values to the experimental values than by the modified Coffin-Manson method.

  • Creep is a major parameter to represent long-term behavior of concrete structures concerning serviceability and durability. The effect of creep is recently taking account into crack resistance analysis of early-age concrete concerning durability evaluation. Since existing creep prediction models were proposed to predict creep for hardened concrete, most of them cannot consider effectively the information on microstructure formation and hydration developed in the early-age concrete. In this study, creep tests for early-age concrete made of the type I cement and the type V cement are carried out respectively and creep prediction models are evaluated for the prediction of creep behavior in early-age concrete. A creep prediction model is modified for the prediction of creep in early-age concrete and also verified by comparing prediction results with results of creep tests on early-age concrete.

  • To evaluate the durability of finger-jointed woods according to change of humidity conditions, four types of finger-jointed woods glued with different kinds of adhesives and finger pitches were made with Sitka spruce, and the effect of humidity conditions on creep performances was investigated. The shape of creep curves differed among humidity conditions, and the inclination of creep curves was greatest in 85%RH, and lowest in 65%RH. Their creep curves showed a linear behavior beyond approximately one hour, regardless of humidity conditions. The A values of the creep curves fitted to power law increased with increasing relative humidity, whereas the A' values were in order of 30 > 85 > 65%RH unlike the A values. The initial deformation increased with increasing relative humidity, whereas the creep deformation unlike the initial deformation was in order of 85 > 30 > 65%RH, and it was found that the creep deformation of finger-jointed woods indicated the smaller amount in air-dry moisture content rather than in a low moisture content less than 30%RH. Finger-jointed woods with 6.8 mm (L) pitch had the greater creep amount than in those with 4.4 mm (S) pitch in all humidity conditions. The difference of creep amount between both adhesives in all humidity conditions was small. Relative creep at 240 hr was greatest as 62.2~71.9% in 85%RH, and the values indicated 2.1~2.6 times that of 30%RH and 3.0~3.6 times that of 65%RH and were equal or slightly greater than that of solid spruce.

  • Several methods have been developed to predict on the remaining life of the old power plants. However, Larson-Miller parameter, one of existing creep life prediction methods, has not reflected the effect of material degradatioin and grain size. So this study has been carried out to research the effects of material degradation and austenite grain coarsening on the life prediction of 3.5Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel. An experimental result shows that carbide coarsening has no significant effects on the creep rupture life and the Larson-Miller parameter, but grain coarsening has an important influence on the creep ruptrure life and the Larson-Miller parameter. Therefore Larson-Miller constant, K should be determined to consider on the chemical composition and the grain size of materials.
