  • This paper studies on the optimal bus network design in the framework of the set covering theory. The theory enables to cover passenger's loading and alighting areas as the set, and maximize the covering set as much as possible. In other words, it calculates the minimal set of the bus routes for covering whole bus passengers demand. After the optimal set of the bus routes is generated by the set covering theory, multimodal traffic equilibrium assignment is used for evaluating the generated set in terms of passenger's mode and route choice behavior. Whilst most previous works on it have been based on analyzing a specific route in a limited area, this study seeks to optimize the whole bus network.

  • In this paper, the effectiveness of three different control algorithms are thoroughly investigated via simulation and a proposed efficiency evaluation method of experimentation. Both the steady state and transient characteristics of each control algorithm along with its measured efficiency are analyzed. Finally, a novel two-mode maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control algorithm combining the constant voltage control and the incremental conduction (IncCond) methods is proposed to improve the efficiency of the 3KW PV power generation system at different insolation conditions. Experimental results show that the proposed two-mode MPPT control provides excellent performance at less than 30% insolation intensity, covering the whole insolation area without additional hardware circuitry.

  • The radiation pattern of a rectangular-grid array antenna consisted of rectangular waveguides is represented by multiplication of its element and array factors. Calculated radiation patterns for excitation of TES110T mode inside the waveguides suffer from the blindness at a particular direction on E-plane. Numerical simulations show that the blindness can be removed by inserting dielectric plug inside the waveguides or covering dielectric sheath in front of the waveguides.

  • In this paper, a planar printed hybrid short/open-ended slot antenna with capacitive coupling feed strips is proposed for hepta-band mobile applications. The proposed antenna is comprised of a slotted ground plane on the top plane and two capacitive coupling feed strips with a chip inductor on the bottom plane. At the low frequency band, the short-ended long slot fed by strip 1 generates its half-wavelength resonance mode, whereas the T-shaped open ended slot fed by strip 2 generates its quarter-wavelength resonance mode for the high frequency band. The antenna provides a wide bandwidth covering GSM850/GSM900/DCS/PCS/UMTS/LTE2300/LTE2500 operation bands. Moreover, the antenna occupies a small volume of $15mm{\times}50mm{\times}1mm$. The operating principle of the proposed antenna and the simulation/measurement results are presented and discussed.

  • The main feature of Buddhist sculpture Is said to lay in how it can materialize the divineness. Therefore lots of people used to pay attention to whether its religious features draw people's reverence or not. However, the robe of Buddhist sculptures has not won its proper attention. The Buddhist robe Is usually considered as a mere measure to make Buddha's supernatural feature more vivid. However, contrary to our expectation, the robe is the very real one which can be found in people's lift. The Gandhara Buddhist sculpture robe does not have sleeves, but several sheet of clothes covered the sculpture. Moreover, we can find same features in monk's robe which appeared in the Gandhara art. I can therefore conclude that this robe is not confined to Buddha, but is very popular one in that time in Gandhara. This article would survey the main feature and its relevant things about Gandhara Buddhist sculpture's robe, especially its change process while it had been transmitted to China.

  • This paper presents a method of design for the energy harvesting of a piezoelectric cantilever beam. Vibration modes have strain nodes where the strain distribution changes in the direction of the beam length. Covering the strain nodes of the vibration modes with continuous electrodes effects a cancellation of the voltages outputs. The use of segmented electrodes avoids cancellations of the voltage for multi-mode vibration. The resistive load affects the voltage and generated power. The optimum resistive load is considered for segmented and continuous electrodes, and then the power output is verified. One of the effective parameters on energy harvesting performance is the existence of concentrated mass. This topic is studied in this paper. Resonance and off-resonance cases are considered for the harvester. In this paper, both theoretical and experimental methods are used for satisfactory results.

  • The optimal design of multiple tuned mass dampers (multiple TMD's) to suppress multi-mode structural response of beams and floor structures was investigated. A new method using a numerical optimizer, which can effectively handle a large number of design variables, was employed to search for both optimal placement and tuning of TMD's for these structures under wide-band loading. The first design problem considered was vibration control of a simple beam using 10 TMD's. The results confirmed that for structures with widelyspaced natural frequencies, multiple TMD's can be adequately designed by treating each structural vibration mode as an equivalent SDOF system. Next, the control of a beam structure with two closely-spaced natural frequencies was investigated. The results showed that the most effective multiple TMD's have their natural frequencies distributed over a range covering the two controlled structural frequencies and have low damping ratios. Moreover, a single TMD can also be made effective in controlling two modes with closely spaced frequencies by a newly identified control mechanism, but the effectiveness can be greatly impaired when the loading position changes. Finally, a realistic problem of a large floor structure with 5 closely spaced frequencies was presented. The acceleration responses at 5 positions on the floor excited by 3 wide-band forces were simultaneously suppressed using 10 TMD's. The obtained multiple TMD's were shown to be very effective and robust.

  • The study for producing the flake powders by milling of aluminum foil and gas atomized powders was carried out. The effects of lifter bars on the ball motions and milling of aluminum foils were also investigated. The aluminum foils were laminated each other, elongated, fragmented into small foils and finally formed into the flake powders during the dry ball-milling. The spherical atomized-powders were milled to coarse flake powders with high aspect ratio and then changed to fine flake powders with lower aspect ratio. Even though long times were required for making flake powders by milling of foils, the water covering areas of them were higher than those of powders milled using gas-atomized powders, suggesting aluminum foils were more plastically deformed by micro-forging. On the other hand, as the number of lifter bars increased, the necessary rotation speeds of milling jar for cascading mode and cataracting mode decreased drastically. It was possible to achieve same quality of milled flake powder by using the lifter bars under the lower milling speeds. The painting test showed that the appearance of painted surface was good and optimum content range of aluminum paste in car paint to maximize the degree of gloss was 3-5%.

  • The Sabine's formula has been widlely used for calculating reverberation time and applied for actual systems. The result of Sabine's method is only same as the reverberation time of one axial wave according to the wave theory. Reverberation time is mainly dependent on the standing waves. In case of the rectangular room the frequencies of three mode covering 250Hz and several intensities at various positions of the room were measures by a spectrograph. It wart found that axial wavers and tangential waves decayed more slowly than oblique waves. The experimental results showed that the amount of axial and tangential wave in a frequency band varies depending on the position in the room. It is concluded that the results give to control reverberation times in a room.

  • Using a panel data set covering 19 Korean manufacturing sectors for the period 2009-2015, this paper investigates the extent to which industry characteristics affect the mode of entering foreign markets. The estimation results across various specifications show that firms prefer affiliate sales to export as firm heterogeneity increases, implying positive effects of productivity regarding foreign relative to domestic operations. The motive for overseas production is reinforced as economies of scale at the plant level decrease and economies of scale at the corporate level increase.
