  • In this paper, a broadband MIMO antenna using the metal cover that is one of the antenna radiators is designed and implemented on the PCB. The proposed antenna consists of a monopole and an IFA fed by the coupling structure and a metal cover radiator. Therefore, a monopole and an IFA with a metal cover radiator operate simultaneously through a hybrid form of operation. The antenna satisfies VSWR 3:1 at the bands of LTE class 13, class 14, CDMA, GSM900, DCS, PCS, WCDMA, LTE class 40 and WiFi. The maximum ECC of diagonally fed MIMO antenna is 0.186. The measured average gain and efficiency were -5.14~-1.28 dBi and 30.87~74.48 % over the desire bands, respectively.

  • This study presents an initial design for a novel system consisting in a coupled nuclear reactor and a phase change material-based thermal energy storage (TES) component, which acts as a buffer and regulator of heat transfer between the primary and secondary loops. The goal of this concept is to enhance the capacity factor of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in the case of high integration of renewable energy sources into the electric grid. Hence, this system could support in elevating the economics of NPPs in current competitive markets, especially with subsidized solar and wind energy sources, and relatively low oil and gas prices. Furthermore, utilizing a prismatic-core advanced high temperature reactor (PAHTR) cooled by a molten salt with a high melting point, have the potential in increasing the system efficiency due to its high operating temperature, and providing the baseline requirements for coupling other process heat applications. The present research studies the neutronics and thermal hydraulics (TH) of the PAHTR as well as TH calculations for the TES which consists of 300 blocks with a total heat storage capacity of 150 MWd. SERPENT Monte Carlo and MCNP5 codes carried out the neutronics analysis of the PAHTR which is sized to have a 5-year refueling cycle and rated power of 300 MWth. The PAHTR has 10 metric tons of heavy metal with 19.75 wt% enriched UO2 TRISO fuel, a hot clean excess reactivity and shutdown margin of $33.70 and -$115.68; respectively, negative temperature feedback coefficients, and an axial flux peaking factor of 1.68. Star-CCM + code predicted the correct convective heat transfer coefficient variations for both the reactor and the storage. TH analysis results show that the flow in the primary loop (in the reactor and TES) remains in the developing mixed convection regime while it reaches a fully developed flow in the secondary loop.

  • We present a new type of receiver-transmitter optical system that can be adapted to the sensor head of a displacement-measuring interferometer. The interferometer is utilized to control positioning error and repetition accuracy of a wafer, down to the order of 1 nm, in a semiconductor manufacturing process. Currently, according to the tendency of scale-up of wafers, an interferometer is demanded to measure a wider range of displacement. To solve this technical problem, we suggest a new type of receiver-transmitter optical system consisting of a GRIN lens-Collimating lens-Afocal lens system, compared to conventional receiver-transmitter using a single collimating lens. By adapting this new technological optical structure, we can improve coupling efficiency up to about 100 times that of a single conventional collimating lens.

  • An improved fuzzy Kalman filtering speed estimation scheme was proposed by means of measuring stator side voltage and current value based on vector control state equation of induction motor. The designed fuzzy adaptive controller conducted recursive online correction of measurement noise covariance matrix by monitoring the ratio of theory residuals and actual residuals to make it approach real noise level gradually, allowing the filter to perform optimal estimation to improve estimation accuracy of EKF. Meanwhile, co-simulation scheme based on MATLAB and Ansoft was proposed in order to improve simulation accuracy. Field-circuit coupling problems of induction motor under the action of vector control were solved and the parameter optimization accuracy was improved dramatically. The simulation and experimental results show that this algorithm has a strong ability to inhibit the random measurement noise. It is able to estimate motor speed accurately, and has superior static and dynamic characteristics.

  • Multiconductor transmission line(MTL) equations are solved by FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method to predict crosstalk and fields to transmission line coupling on lossy multiconductor transmission lines terminated in arbitrary linear loads. Skin effect losses as well as dc losses are included in the analysis. In order to increase computational efficiency, the convolution integral of internal impedance of conductors and the line currents is computed by using Prony method. For boundary conditions of MTLs terminated in linear loads, state-variable formulation is adopted. The simulated results by FDTD method are compared with the measured ones obtained by using TEM cell. The predictions are in good agreement with the measurements. In addition, it has been found that skin effect losses as well as dc losses of the conductors should be included for accurate predictions on relatively high loss transmission lines such as PCB. It has also been found that dc losses and skin-effect losses affect late-time responses and early-time responses, respectively.

  • As one of the core technologies in the field of the optical communication with WDM, the optical cross connector with movements of micro mirrors is getting important day by day. The packaging structure of 2-dimensional NxN MOEMS switch should be determined by the harmonization of the following items such as the geometrical compatability between optical and structural components, the characteristics of optical input and output parts with device, and the electrical performance for the operation of micro mirrors. Therefore, the packaging process could be defined as the integrated technology completed by the optical and electrical science and the material science for the understanding of its thermo-mechanical properties with packaging materials. In the present study, the harmonization between the optical and structural components as well as the optical characteristics of lens system used will be investigated.

  • This study was investigated the effects of exercise and supplementation of L-carnitine and antioxidants on hepatic mitochondrial function, especially oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). Isolated hepatic mitochondria from 4 rat groups were functionally tested by an analysis of respiration and the coupling of this process to ATP synthesis in the presence of ADP. Four groups were non-trained, non-supplemented group (NTNS), non-trained, supplemented group (NTS), long term-trained, non-supplemented group (LTNS) , and long term-trained, supplemented group (LTS). The trained rats run on a treadmill (grade 10°,20 m/min) for 60min/day for 8 weeks. The supplemented rats were treated with L-carnitine (0.5% diet), vitamin E(0.5mg/g BW), vitamin C (0.5mg/g BW) and melatonin (1 $\mu$ g/g BW) for 8 weeks. There were exercise effects on improving mitochondrial OXPHOS. Within non-supplemented groups, exercised rats resulted in a significant decrease in state 4 oxygen consumption, which increased the respiratory control (RC) ratio and ADP : O (P/O) ratio. There were supplementation effects on improving mitochondrial OXPHOS, too. Within non-exercised rats, supplemented rats resulted in a significant decrease in state 4 oxygon consumption. which increased the RC ratio and P/O ratio. There were additive effects of exercise and supplementation on OXPHOS. Within supplemented rats, exercise resulted in an increase in RC ratio. Significant effects of exercise-supplement interaction on improving OXPHOS were identified. It suggests that exercise and supplementation of L-carnitine and antioxidants might improve more efficiently the impaired OXPHOS efficiency in mitochondrial dysfunction that recognized as is an important cause of degenerative diseases. • In this study, we performed an investigation on the variations in the structural capacity of steel plate walls with various infill plate details. Five three-story plate walls with thin web plates were tested. Parameters for the test specimens were the connection details between the moment frame and infill plates, such as weld and bolt connections, the location and length of weld connection, and coupling wall. Regardless of the details of infilled steel plate, the steel plate wall specimens showed excellent initial stiffness, strength, and energy dissipation capacity. However, the wall with bolt-connected infill plates showed slightly low deformation capacity. This result showed that for workability and cost efficiency, various wall details can be used in practice without causing a significant decrease in the structural capacity of steel plate walls. A method for making projections on strength and energy dissipation capacity of steel plate wall specimens with various details was developed.

  • This paper analyzes and accesses the gain of optically pumped surface-normal MQW optical amplifiers. The proposed amplifiers have the advantage of polarization independence, high coupling efficiency to and from optical fibers, and flexibility of operating wavelength. We analyzed the gain characteristics of 100 - 200-period MQWs and verified the dependence of a strained lattice and selective doping. Theoretical analysis of such MQWs showsa single-pass gain of 3 dB with broad operation bandwidth. A single-pass gain of 2.6 dB is obtained experimentally in an InGaAs/InGaAlAs MQW amplifier, which is compared with calculations. The use of Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) structure in an optical amplifier is a useful way to increase the gain, but causes a problem of narrow operation bandwidth when the single-pass gain is low. Therefore, a single-pass gain above 2to 3 dB is a prerequisite to achieve both a high gain and moderate operation bandwidth in FPI-structured opticalamplifiers. We have designed an FPI-structured surface-normal optical amplifier both with a high gain of broad operation bandwidth of 4.6mm, when a single-pass gain is 3 dB.

  • Vertical-structure light-emitting diodes (V-LEDs) by laser lift-off (LLO) have been exploited for high-efficiency GaN-based LEDs of solid-state lightings. In V-LEDs, emitted light from active regions is reflected-up from reflective ohmic contacts on p-GaN. Therefore, silver (Ag) is very suitable for reflective contacts due to its high reflectance (>95%) and surface plasmon coupling to visible light emissions. In addition, low contact resistivity has been obtained from Ag-based ohmic contacts annealed in oxygen ambient. However, annealing in oxygen ambient causes Ag to be oxidized and/or agglomerated, leading to degradation in both electrical and optical properties. Therefore, preventing Ag from oxidation and/or agglomeration is a key aspect for high-performance V-LEDs. In this work, we demonstrate the enhanced thermal stability of Ag-based Ohmic contact to p-GaN by reducing the thermal compressive stress. The thermal compressive stress due to the large difference in CTE between GaN ($5.6{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$) and Ag ($18.9{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$) accelerate the diffusion of Ag atoms, leading to Ag agglomeration. Therefore, by increasing the additional residual tensile stress in Ag film, the thermal compressive stress could be reduced, resulting in the enhancement of Ag agglomeration resistance. We employ the thin Ni layer in Ag film to form Ni/Ag mutli-layer structure, because the lattice constant of NiO ($4.176\;{\AA}$ is larger than that of Ag ($4.086\;{\AA}$). High-resolution symmetric and asymmetric X-ray diffraction was used to measure the in-plane strain of Ag films. Due to the expansion of lattice constant by oxidation of Ni into NiO layer, Ag layer in Ni/Ag multi-layer structure was tensilely strained after annealing. Based on experimental results, it could be concluded that the reduction of thermal compressive stress by additional tensile stress in Ag film plays a critical role to enhance the thermal stability of Ag-based Ohmic contact to p-GaN.
