A Study on the Adjusting Fine Method of Tap-off for CATV Transmitting Circuits Using Coupled-Line Theory (결합선로이론을 이용한 CATV 전송회로용 Tap off의 미조정방법에 관한 연구)

  • Much time and labor has been conventionally paid for fine adjustment of circuit elements by experience to improve the characteristics of Tap-off for CATV systems. To solve the problem, in this paper, the relations between the even- and odd-mode impedance. Z$_{oe}$ and Z$_{oo}$ of symmetrical 4-port coupled-line directional coupler and power dividing characteristics of Tap-off for CATV system have been derived. After the coupling, the reflectivity and the isolation are represented by Z$_{oe}$ and Z$_{oo}$ only, the fine adjustment of all S-parameters can be performed by controling the elements of Z$_{oe}$ and Z$_{oo}$ only. Furthermore, the validity of the new fine adjustment method proposed here has been confirmed by experiments.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy logic controlled new topology of high voltage gain zero voltage switching (ZVS) asymmetrical PWM full-bridge DC-DC boost converter for constant load and high power applications. The APWM full-bridge stage provides high voltage gain and soft-switching characteristics increase the efficiency and reduce the switching losses. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) improves the performance and dynamic characteristics of the proposed converter. A comparison with a classical proportional-integral (PI) controller demonstrates the high performances of the proposed technique in terms of effective output voltage regulation under different operating conditions. Simulation is done by integrating two different simulation platforms $PSIM^{(R)}$ and $Matlab^{(R)}/Simulink^{(R)}$ by using SimCoupler tool of $PSIM^{(R)}$. Experimental results using 120W load have been provided to validate the results.

  • Power line communication, using 25[kV] high voltage of railway catenary, is to provide information which is real-time safety information for train operations and train workers in driving. Lots of noise were occupied in the contact wire by electrical and communication equipments. A signal attenuation was caused characteristics of the contact wire and messenger wire. For relaying communications to transmit information using the contact wire, catenary the noise and signal attenuation were investigated. And the final goal of the study was realized to transmit video information by power line communication on electric railway.

  • The output characteristics of a ceramic Nd:YAC laser pumped by a fiber-coupled laser diode was investigated. An efficiency and a slope efficiency of 33.8 % and 39.3 % respectively were obtained, under an output coupler reflectance of 90.4 %. The laser power has decreased suddenly due to the thermal tensing effect more than 6 W pumping powers.

  • This paper reports a means of improving the abnormal noise of light tactical vehicles (LTVs) by applying a vehicle fitting type generator (hereinafter called generator). LTVs are classified as having generators, and there are no differences in the noise level. On the other hand, quality improvement was performed in response to unpleasant noise felt by the user (hereinafter called abnormal noise) during vehicle operation. To improve the quality, the generator mounting structure and the phenomenon of the vehicle in the problem were identified. Through this, it was confirmed that the noise caused by the generator installation was the rattle noise. Rattle noise at the engine driving system is normally caused by the transfer of irregular torque generated by the engine power stroke and the backlash by the spline-serration fitting structure between the engine coupler and rotor assembly in a generator. Therefore, this study established an improvement plan to apply a damper coupler to solve the cause of the abnormal noise. Regarding the improved establishment method, the improvement effect was confirmed from the influence of the irregular torque of the engine, noise level, dynamic characteristics analysis, and the endurance test of the parts.

Application of non-destructive method for evaluation of soil nail length (쏘일네일의 길이평가를 위한 비파괴 기법의 적용)

  • As soil nails support a ground by the friction between nails and soils being reinforced, the length of soil nails is important factor for a ground stability. Thus, the soil nail length has to be accurately evaluated in order to secure a ground stability. The goal of this study is to suggest the applicability of the non-destructive method as the basic research for the evaluation of the soil nail length. First, the elastic and electromagnetic waves are adopted to select an applicable method for the soil nails connected by the coupler. Test results show that while the ultrasonic waves are not detected due to the coupler, the electromagnetic waves are free for the influence of the coupler. Second, electromagnetic waves are measured for combined soil nails with the length of 1 m~15 m for the investigation of the characteristics of electromagnetic waves. The travel time of the electromagnetic wave increases with an increase in the soil nail length. In addition, the ground cable is used to apply the electromagnetic waves to pre-installed soil nails. Test results show that the travel time of the electromagnetic wave by using the ground cable increases with an increase in soil nail length. This study demonstrates that the electromagnetic wave may be a promising method for the evaluation of the soil nail length.

A study on Analysis of Impact Deceleration Characteristics of Railway Freight Car (1차원 해석방법을 이용한 화차의 충돌가속도 분석)

  • This study examined the problems of existing vehicles to propose alternatives to improve the crashworthiness of railway freight cars through collision acceleration analysis using a one-dimensional collision analysis method. A collision scenario of railway shunting and crash accidents was selected from the collision accident cases and international standards. A one-dimensional collision simulation using LS-DYNA was performed according to those scenarios. As a result, the acceleration level of the freight wagon was calculated to be under 2g and was predicted to meet the EN 12663 standard in the shunting situation. On the other hand, the result of crash simulation with an impact velocity between 10 and 15 km/h revealed the shock absorber capacity of the railway coupler to be insufficient in a crash situation, resulting in increased acceleration, and carbody deformation could be predicted. As a method of improving the crashworthiness, a deformation tube-type energy absorber was applied to the coupler system, and collision analysis was performed again with new energy absorption strategy. Overall, the simulation showed that the acceleration level was decreased by 12% of the conventional freight-car energy absorption system.

Design of 4×4 Array Synthesis Horn Antenna and Radiated Power Measurement by Magnetron (4×4 배열 합성 혼 안테나 및 고출력 마그네트론에 의한 방사전력 측정)

  • In this paper, the array synthesis horn antenna was designed and measured a radiation power after connecting magnetron. The proposed antenna was designed on the basis of the $4{\times}4$ array synthesis horn antenna characteristics. For suppressing a back-lobe, 2 step short-stub structures were attached to synthesis horn aperture upper and lower. The designed antenna has FBR(Front to Back Ratio) of 39.7 dB. HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) of the E-plane and the H-plane are $8.86^{\circ}$ and $7.35^{\circ}$ each in the measurement. For measuring a radiation power of array antenna that use a magnetron, the waveguide adaptor was designed and connected magnetron with horn antenna. Also, microstrip line coupler that replace a dielectric material with an air gap was designed for measuring a high power. As a result, average radiation output power of the $4{\times}4$ array synthesis horn antenna that connect a four magnetrons had a 0.063W.

  • A novel interferometric isolator has been proposed and designed to fabrticate waveguide magnetooptic isolator operating at a wavelength of $1.55{\cal}um$. The device consists of MMI (multimode interference) couplers and has a magnetooptic guiding layer with different layer structure in arms of the inteferometer. The layer structures in the arms of inteferometer are $HfO_2/CeY_2Fe_5O_{12}/NOG$ and $SiO_2/CeY_2Fe_5O_{12}/NOG$, respectively. This configuration give rise to different nonreciprocal phase shift. In consequence, the isolator operates under a unidirectional magnetic field. The optimized structure of the isolator was determined by a 3D beam propagation method.

Mechanical Splicing Characteristic of the Threaded Bar according to the Contact Conditions of the Transverse Rib (마디접촉조건에 따른 나사철근의 기계식 이음 특성)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the mechanical splicing characteristic of the threaded bar according to the contact conditions of the transverse rib. In order to consider the contact conditions of the rib, selection of the main variables including the gap of the core diameter ($l_c$), rib angle (${\theta}$), and the number of contacts ($C_N$) of transverse rib was done. So as to analyze the splicing characteristic of the D51 threaded bar, a finite element (FE) simulation of the tensile test was conducted using the designed D51 threaded bar and coupler. Through FE simulation results, it was verified that the mechanical slicing characteristics varied based on the main design variables ($l_c$, ${\theta}$, and $C_N$). It was further confirmed that it was important to determine the $C_N$ in consideration of $l_c$. Additionally, the tensile test results of the D25 and D51 threaded bar combined with the couplers were similar to FE simulation results. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate FE simulation and test results, the calculation equation for the contacted projection area ratio (R) of the transverse rib was proposed. To secure a mechanical splicing joint of the threaded bar, it was established that the R calculated using the proposed equation had to be greater or equal to 40%.
