A novel flat steel plate-concrete-corrugated steel plate (FS-C-CS) sandwich panel was proposed for resisting impact load. The failure mode, impact force and displacement response of the FS-C-CS panel under impact loading were studied via drop-weight impact tests. The combined global flexure and local indentation deformation mode of the FS-C-CS panel was observed, and three stages of impact process were identified. Moreover, the effects of corrugated plate height and steel plate thickness on the impact responses of the FS-C-CS panels were quantitatively analysed, and the impact resistant performance of the FS-C-CS panel was found to be generally improved on increasing corrugated plate height and thickness in terms of smaller deformation as well as larger impact force and post-peak mean force. The Finite Element (FE) model of the FS-C-CS panel under impact loading was established to predict its dynamic response and further reveal its failure mode and impact energy dissipation mechanism. The numerical results indicated that the concrete core and corrugated steel plate dissipated the majority of impact energy. In addition, employing end plates and high strength bolts as shear connectors could prevent the slip between steel plates and concrete core and assure the full composite action of the FS-C-CS panel.
The present paper presents a study on the behavior and design of corrugated web steel beams with and without web openings. In the literature, the web opening problem in steel beams was dealt with mostly for steel beams with plane web plates and research on the effect of an opening on a corrugated web was found out to be very limited. The present study deals mainly with the effect of web openings on the transverse load carrying capacity of steel beams with sinusoidally corrugated webs. A general purpose finite element program (ABAQUS) was used. Simply supported corrugated web beams of 2 m length and with circular web openings at quarter span points were considered. These points are generally considered to be the optimum locations of web openings for steel beams. Various cases were analyzed including the size of the openings and the corrugation density which is a function of the magnitude and length of the sine wave. Models without web holes were also analyzed and compared with other cases which were all together examined in terms of load-deformation characteristics and ultimate web shear resistance.
In this paper, a 3-dimensional stiffened plate model for soil-metal box structures is proposed. 3-dimensional stiffened plate model is enable to model corrugated steel plates of soil metal box culverts considering section modulus and section properties of longitudinal and horizontal direction from a corrugated steel plate. Loading conditions which causes maximum displacement and maximum moment according to the step construction stages(a back filling to the top of the plate, a back filling to the maximum depth of cover, and loading of live loads) was applied and the behaviors of the soil metal box culverts was analyzed. Analysis results of 3-dimensional stiffened model were compared with those of 2-dimensional model, 3-dimensional equivalent plate model and 3-dimensional corrugated plate model. As results, the behaviors of 2-dimensional model and 3 dimensional equivalent model are different from 3-dimensional corrugated plate model but the result of 3-dimensional stiffened model has good agreement with that of 3-dimensional corrugated plate model.
In this paper, after studying structural performance for the representative corrugated steel plate used in Korea, we proposed the optimum shape for section of corrugated steel plate considering a width of steel plates that can be produced currently in the factory. Using AISI(1986) in examination for the performance of the corrugated steel plate, we determined the mechanical limit of the optimum sections considering shear force and bending moment of corrugated steel plate and also determined the geometric limit of them considering formability, shapes and ratio between width of steel plate before forming and that after forming. As a result of examination for performance of steel plate applying algorithm for searching optimal sections algorithm developed in this study to the existing representative corrugated steel plate, allowable force and moment of inertia indicated the maximum values at bending radius 76mm and internal bending angle $50^{\circ}$. And as an application result of the optimum design system that used SS490 with 1,550mm of width and 4,700mm of length considering current production situation in Korea, we developed the new section with more than 2 times of structural performance comparing with existing corrugated steel plate.
This paper presents the numerical results in strength and stress distribution behavior for the connections of corrugated steel plates (CSP). The results obtained using the finite element method indicate that the CSP with =30mm of longitudinal edge lap, by the current standard specification, has very conservative values. The results also indicate the difference of strength behavior from the bolt arrangement. The strength behavior of standard corrugated type with staggered holes is only affected by circumferential edge lap, but the edge lap and bolthole spacing have an effect on the strength behavior for the deeply corrugated type with parallel holes. Based on these results, this paper examines the current specification of the connections for CSP.

This paper conducted a comparative analysis of the shear buckling characteristics of trapezoidal and sinusoidal corrugated steel plates considering of their initial imperfection. Initial imperfection refers to the state where the shape of the corrugated plate is initially not perfect. As such, an initially imperfect shape was assumed using the eigen buckling mode. To calculate the buckling stress of corrugated steel plates, the linear buckling analysis used a boundary condition which was applied to the plate buckling analysis. For the comparison of trapezoidal and sinusoidal corrugation, the shape parameters were assumed using the case where the length and slope of each corrugation were the same, and the initial imperfection was considered to be from 0.1% to 5% based on the length of the steel plate. Here, for the buckling analysis, ANSYS, a commercial FEA program, was used. From the results of buckling analysis, the effect of overall initial imperfection showed that the larger the initial imperfection, the lower the buckling stress. However, in the very thin model, interaction or local buckling was dominant in the perfect shape, and in this case, the buckling stress did not decrease. Besides, the sinusoidal model showed higher buckling stress than the trapezoidal one, and the two corrugation shapes decreased in a similar way.

An analytical method is developed for analysing the contact buckling response of infinitely long, thin corrugated plates and flat plates restrained by a Winkler tensionless foundation and subjected to linearly varying in-plane loadings, where the corrugated plates are modelled as orthotropic plates and the flat plates are modelled as isotropic plates. The critical step in the presented method is the explicit expression for the lateral buckling mode function, which is derived through using the energy method. Simply supported and clamped edges conditions on the unloaded edges are considered in this study. The acquired lateral deflection function is applied to the governing buckling equations to eliminate the lateral variable. Considering the boundary conditions and continuity conditions at the border line between the contact and non-contact zones, the buckling coefficients and the corresponding buckling modes are found. The analytical solution to the buckling coefficients is also expressed through a fitted approximate formula in terms of foundation stiffness, which is verified through previous studies and finite element (FE) method.

As a trapezoidal corrugated steel plate has the sufficient stiffness out of plane direction without shear stiffener or thick plate, a use in the web of bridge structure is on the increase. However, there are no domestic design guides for shear buckling strength of corrugated plates. Therefore, foreign design specifications are analyzed about application methods and a numerical parametric study is used to get the relationship of the shear strength and geometric boundary conditions for corrugated plates. Elastic buckling finite element analysis is executed through eigenvalue analysis using the eight nodes five freedoms thin shell element. Parameters such as the width and height of panel and the thickness and height of web, are determined considering the factors to influence on the buckling of corrugated plate. Accuracy of shear buckling analysis is evaluated with theory of foreign buckling equations.
The paper presents the results and conclusions of dynamic load tests that were conducted on a road bridge over the Mokrzyca river in Wroclaw (Poland) made of galvanized corrugated steel plates (CSP). The critical speed magnitudes, velocity vibration, vibration frequency were determined in the paper. The dynamic analysis is extremely important, because such studies of soil-steel bridges in the range of dynamic loads are relatively seldom conducted. Conclusions drawn from the tests can be most helpful in the assessment of behaviour of this type of corrugated plate bridge with soil. In consideration of application of this type of structure in the case of small-to-medium span bridges, the conclusions from the research will not be yet generalized to all types of such solutions. The detailed reference to all type of such bridge structures would be requiring additional analysis (field tests and calculations) on the other types of soil-steel bridges.
