  • An electrochemical evaluation on the corrosion resistance for heavy anticorrosive paint(DFT:25um) was carried out for 5 kinds of heavy anticorrosive paints such as high solid epoxy(HE), solvent free epoxy(SE). tar epoxy(TE), phenol epoxy(PE). and ceramic epoxy(CE). Corrosion current densities obtained by Tafel extrapolation method from anodic and cathodic polarization curves didn't correspond with the values obtained by AC impedance measurement, however, the values of polarization resistance obtained from the cyclic voltammogram showed a good tendency corresponding well with the values of AC impedance measurement. Futhermore there was a good correlation against the corrosion resistance evaluation between passivity current density of the anodic polarization curve and diffusion limiting current density of the cathodic polarization curve. And corrosion resistance increased with corrosion potential shifting to noble direction. From the results discussed above. HE and CE had a relatively good corrosion resistance than other heavy anticorrosive paints.

  • The galvanostatic polarization technique was used to accelerate corrosion in high chromium cast iron (HCCI) immersed in a simulated slurry solution of 0.1 mol dm-3 H2SO4, 0.05 mol dm-3 HCl, and 10 wt% SiC. The HCCI contained 27 wt% of Cr and 2.8 wt% of C, and its microstructure mainly comprised austenitic and carbide phases. A two-electrode system using a dense carbon rod and the HCCI sample was employed for the galvanostatic polarization by applying an anodic current for 24 hours. The corrosion rate increased upon applying the anodic current, but the increase was not significant, particularly for current densities higher than 10 µA cm-2. Following polarization, the corrosion morphology revealed that the anodic current accelerated surface corrosion in the HCCI; however while the depth of the corroded area increased, the increase was not substantial. The propagation behavior of the anodic current and its impact on corrosion were further discussed.

  • In this study, the high strength and superior toughness spring steels as the suspension material, used for automobile and railroad industries were utilized to carry out the following investigations. Corrosion times were controlled in 7, 14, 30 and 60days to examine the relation between corrosion pit and compressive residual stress in the static corrosion environment after shot peened. And then corrosion current and corrosion potential were measured for every 24 hours to investigate the corrosion mechanism. Shot peened material shows the low or rate of corrosion current as compared with unpeened material. In case of peened material which has the highest residual stress, it has a low corrosion current density.

  • This paper was studied on the corrosion and corrosion-wear behavior of chromium (Cr) plating in the acidic environments. In the various pH of acidic solutions, the electrochemical polarization test and wear-corrosion test of Cr plating were carried out. And thus potential, corrosion current density and corrosion-wear loss behaviour of Cr plating are investigated.

  • An alternating current (AC) corrosion using coupon has been studied. Coupons were applied in terms of AC voltage from high value to low value through the survey of AC voltages on buried gas transmission pipeline over the country. Parameters such as AC current density of coupon, AC voltage, cathodic protection potential, soil resistivity and frequency were monitored continually. Corrosion induced by AC was observed even under cathodically protected condition that met cathodic protection criterion(: below -850mv vs. CSE). Corrosion rate was affected mainly not by AC voltage but by both of frequency and AC current density. An experimental corrosion rate relationship could be obtained statistically, in which AC corrosion rate increased linearly with effective AC current density and its slope was 0.619.

  • This paper deals with ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) inner corrosion detection using a detector which automatically runs on an ACSR transmission line and inspects the inner corrosion of the conductor by utilization of the nondestructive eddy current test. And the relationship between the corrosion grades and the tensile strength can be estimated by means of this test. According to corrosion appearance and development of ACSR, the impedance change of the eddy current coils is theoretically verified. And then specifications And performances of the detector are described. Experimental procedures and desirable test results are reported. In conclusion, this detector can realize the nondestructive detecting of an ACSR inner corrosion. Upgrading the maintenance effciency and improving the reliability of transmission line would be expected by this nondestructive test method.

  • The effect of pH on the corrosion characteristics in the dissimilar friction welded zone of IN713LC-SCM440 in the loaded torsional stress was studied. The corrosion experiment was performed for 120 hours on the specimens with five steps of pH. The surface corrosion pattern of the SCM440 area showed global corrosion and narrow pitting, which was caused by galvanic corrosion between friction welded IN713LC and SCM440, but corrosion did not proceeded from the IN713LC area. The average relative electrode potential gradually tends to decrease with the elapse of the immersion time in the acidity area. The average corrosion current also gradually tend to decrease The corrosion rate showed a larger value when the average relative electrode potential was higher and the average relative current was lower. The corrosion rate showed a larger value when the average relative electrode potential was higher in the acidity area, and it showed large when the average relative electrode potential was lower in the alkalinity area.

  • In this study, a local corrosion environment monitoring was conducted using steel box specimen fabricated to be the same as actual steel bridge members. The steel box specimen that obtained the same corrosion environment as a steel bridge was classified into the upper plate, bottom plate and web plate. Atmospheric corrosion monitoring sensors(ACM sensors) were installed in each corrosion monitoring member of a steel box specimen to measure the corrosion current and examine time of wetness for each monitoring member. The time of wetness and accumulated corrosion current of each monitoring member were calculated from the measured corrosion current using ACM sensors. The corrosion environment that appeared for each of the steel box members was evaluated from monitoring corrosion environment data as the corrosion current, time of wetness, mean corrosion depth of each monitoring member. Additionally, the atmospheric corrosion environment monitoring was also conducted to compare with the local corrosion environment of steel box members. From these local corrosion environment monitoring for the steel box specimen, the relationship between the relative corrosion environment and mean corrosion depth of each steel box member was examined.

  • The galvanic corrosion of a vessel, or systems fitted to minimize the ship's corrosion such as ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) system and sacrificial anodes, can lead to significant electrical current flow in the sea. The presence of vessel's current sources associated with corrosion will give rise to detectable electric field surrounding the vessel and can put it at risk from mine threats. For this reason, it is necessary to design corrosion protection systems so that they don't only prevent a hull corrosion but also minimize the electric field signature. In this paper, we describe theoretical backgrounds of underwater electric field signature due to corrosion and corrosion protection system on naval vessels and analysis results of the electric field according to the ship's hull and it's propeller coating damage and ICCP anode displacement.

  • Direct current corrosion have being investigated by lots of scientists but alternating current corrosion was ignored because the corrosion rate by AC was very small. Recently however, AC corrosion accidents have been reported in many other countries. So the study of AC corrosion is to be necessary In these days. In this paper, several experiments which intentionally imposed the AC or DC to the specimens also imposed AC and DC at the same time was carried out in the laboratory to examine the AC corrosion characteristics and in addition applied the same way in the field. Moreover, while the field investigations of the abnormal corrosion failures, It was the AC that caused one of corrosion failures.
