A Study of the Effect of Corrective Counseling Programs for Domestic Violence Offenders and Its Content Analysis (가정폭력 가해자 교정상담 프로그램 효과와 내용 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This dissertation analyzed the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for Korean domestic violence offenders. I conducted a survey of Korean domestic violence offenders scattered throughout the country. The survey period was between Mar Feb. 20, 2006 and Apr. 29, 2006. The specific objects of the survey are the 250 domestic violence offenders who got counseling in the Goyang branch office of the Justice Ministry-affiliated Uijeongbu Probation & Parole Center, Ansan Citizen Welfare Society's domestic violence counseling center, Korea Domestic Violence Counseling Center Association, Korea Women's Hot Line, Korea Family Law Counseling Center and its branch offices throughout the country, and the counseling centers commissioned by the court for domestic violence offenders. The study was based on a poll on 182 of the 250 offenders. The research result includes: First, the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for offenders varies depending upon the age, educational background, location, job, income, and childhood abuse of offenders. In particular, the less experience of childhood abuse leads to greater effect of education. Second, of the types of corrective counseling programs for offenders, the satisfaction for those in couple counseling is the greatest. This is because couple counseling is more influential than individual in the professional education that helps to share and understand couple problems.

Poland`s Syndrome (Poland 증후군 1례 보고)

  • The Poland`s syndrome is very rare anomaly, which consists of congenital unilateral absence of the sternocostal part of the pectoralis major muscle, with ipsilateral hand deformities. The clinical features are variable but all patients have absence of at least the sternal head of the pectoralis major muscle. The syndrome is not hereditary and is of unknown origin. Early recognition of Poland`s syndrome may give the provision of psychologic and genetic counseling for anxious parents. We have encountered two patients with this entity, and one of them underwent successful surgical correction.

Food Allergy Management Status by Dietitians and Nutrition Teachers in Elementary and Middle Schools in Incheon (인천지역 초, 중학교 영양(교)사의 식품 알레르기 관리 실태)

  • Objectives: Food allergy appears to be increasing in prevalence and can potentially result in significant damaging impact on children's mental and physical health. This study investigated how dietitians/nutrition teachers in Incheon, where a fatal fool allergy incidence occurred, manage food allergy issues in school lunch systems. Methods: A survey with a pre-tested questionnaire was conducted with 358 dietitians/nutrition teachers in Incheon area. The final analytical sample included questionnaire data from 208 study participants (58.1%). Statistical analyses used SPSS ver 19.0. Results: A total of 99.5% respondents reported having received food allergy education. The respondents showed a correction rate of the food allergy test slightly higher than 70%, where nutrition teachers and respondents working in elementary schools had correction rates higher than dietitians and those working in middle schools (p<0.05). All respondents reported regular monitoring to identify students with food allergy and making notification of allergy-prone foods on menu in their school. More nutrition teachers provided "elimination meals" (57.6%) or "replacement meals" (37.0%) than dietitians (43.1%, 19.8%, respectively) (p<0.05). Elimination and replacement meals were provided more in elementary schools than in middle schools (p<0.05). Although counseling students with food allergy on nutrition was done by 64.9% of respondents, the areas of counseling were limited to basics of food allergy and how to use the notification system on menu. To prepare for handling food allergy events effectively, networks with regional clinics or hospitals (34.1%), hotline with parents (87.4%), and keeping an Epi-Pen ready (46.7% elementary school) were established. Only 34.1% of respondents knew how to use Epi-Pens. Conclusions: Dietitians and nutrition teachers in Incheon widely adapted food allergy management methods. It appears that education/training on food allergy for dietitians/nutrition teachers can move on from teaching basics of food allergy to providing applicable food allergy management methods at school system.

We have encountered a patient with this entity, who showed striking paradoxical movement of the left anterior Ghest wall and recurrent pneumonia, and underwent successful surgical correction.

Renal Tubular Acidosis (신세뇨관 산증)

  • Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a metabolic acidosis due to impaired excretion of hydrogen ion, or reabsorption of bicarbonate, or both by the kidney. These renal tubular abnormalities can occur as an inherited disease or can result from other disorders or toxins that affect the renal tubules. Disorders of bicarbonate reclamation by the proximal tubule are classified as proximal RTA, whereas disorders resulting from a primary defect in distal tubular net hydrogen secretion or from a reduced buffer trapping in the tubular lumen are called distal RTA. Hyperkalemic RTA may occur as a result of aldosterone deficiency or tubular insensitivity to its effects. The clinical classification of renal tubular acidosis has been correlated with our current physiological model of how the nephron excretes acid, and this has facilitated genetic studies that have identified mutations in several genes encoding acid and base ion transporters. Growth retardation is a consistent feature of RTA in infants. Identification and correction of acidosis are important in preventing symptoms and guide approved genetic counseling and testing.

Development and Effectiveness Verification of Inner Family System(IFS) Program to Reduce Job Stress of Telephone Counselor (전화상담자의 직무스트레스 감소를 위한 내면가족체계(IFS) 프로그램 개발 및 효과 검증)

  • This study is to develop a program based on IFS theory to reduce job stress and psychological exhaustion experienced by telephone counselors in the counseling field, and to verify the effectiveness. After selecting 9 people in advance and conducting a demand survey, detailed program activities, content organization, and validity were reviewed. And preliminary research was conducted with experts, and the final program was composed of evaluation, correction, and supplementation. To verify the effectiveness of the program, 10 people from the experimental group and 10 people from the control group were selected for voluntarily participating telephone counselors. As a result of the study, first, the overall job stress and its sub-factors, 'overwork', 'difficult clients', and 'social expectations of counselors' scores decreased statistically significantly. Second, 'physical fatigue', 'non-cooperative work environment', 'decreased client value', and 'deterioration of privacy', which are sub-factors of psychological exhaustion, significantly decreased. Third, the IFS score decreased significantly according to the IFS application program.

Development of Computer-Aided Nutritional Education Program for the School Children (초등학생의 올바른 식습관 형성을 위한 영양교육 사이트 개발)

  • The performance of educational program for preventive nutrition is more beneficial for children than for the adults based on the cost reduction and the effect of this education. Also children's education helps them to grow and to live as a healthy adult. The purpose of this study is to solve the nutritional problem in children by developing nutrition education program for children and correct their nutritional problems. The characteristics of this program (www.food79.net) are the customized program for grade level based on the level of learning ability, the various education method such as game, cooking practice, and quiz, animation, and the self educated method by managing children's meal management as the result. The contents of this site are constructed not only for children but also for parents, the teachers and the school dietitians to increasing educational effect. The children room consists of food tower, nutrition kingdom, calculation of obesity index, food information, nutrient exploration, cooking world, and evaluation of dietary life. In the room for dietitian and teachers include the contents of the easy gymnastics, nutrition counseling methods, the teaching plans for nutrition education, and the information interchange corner. The third room for parents is constructed of nutrition evaluation, food 114, correction of living habits, and free discussion. Through this site, we are expecting to contribute to national health promotion by correcting the food habits of children.

The Analysis of Human Error for Improving Customer Counseling Service Quality (고객상담 서비스품질 개선을 위한 인적오류 분석)

  • While many services appear, it are performed in the various researches about a service. Among them, as to the basic reason for measuring the service level, in order to find out the strategy improving service quality. But the method for measuring quality of services up to date was unable to make it enough the role. This research tried to propose the approach systematically analyzing the human errors in order to improve service quality about the call center which utilizes the information technology. In fact, the human errors was found in the customer contact point in which the actual service is delivered. An interaction between the element for comprising call service was classified into 3 while defining the human error as 3 group. Moreover, the process where a service is delivered was classified according to 5 step and the generated error was measured in each step. The implication of this research looks at the service failure and dissatisfaction as the occurrence of the human errors and illustrates the service quality improvement as a correction or a reduction. This approach is used that service is materially easily understood and is formulated with the quality improvement strategy.

Nutritional Education Status and Recognition of the Importance of Elementary School Dietitians in the Gyeongnam Area (경남지역 초등학교 영양사의 영양교육 실시현황 및 인식조사 - 공동관리 여부와 경력을 중심으로 -)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the nutritional education status and the recognition of the importance of elementary school dietitians (N=183) in the Gyeongnam area. The results are summarized as follows. All subjects took part in nutritional education program, but the educational methods were passive, as in the case of “home correspondence”(80.8%) and “bulletin board poster”(16.4%), and the education frequency was very low as in “one time/month”(90.2%). The subjects thought “as an independent subject”(41.5%) and “as a related subjects”(35.1%) were suitable teaching venues for the nutritional education. They were very low in individual counseling (4.5%) for school children because of “lack of opportunity”(42.2%) and “heavy work load”(24.1%). However, most of the subjects wished that nutritional counseling could offered in the future (95.5%). The parents' experience of nutritional education was also low (34.3%). Information sources for nutritional education were mainly the “internet”(53.1%) and “re-educational materials” (25.0%). The available instructional materials included “printed materials”(96.7%), “exhibition bulletin materials” (70.3%) and “electronic materials”(46.4%). The preferred education materials were “exhibitionㆍbulletin materials”(32.2%), “printed materials”(29.2%), and “electronic materials”(27.7%). However, materials they wished to purchase were “electronic materials”(54.5%) and “cubic materials”(26.0%). These results show a difference between the preferred materials and the possessed materials. Most school dietitians (98.4%) recognized the necessity of nutritional education with respect to “good table manners”(42.0%), “correction of food prejudices”(30.3%), and “proper nutrition for growth”(21.0%) Although they had a great interest in nutritional education, they had difficulty in cutting their teaming into practice because of “heavy work load”(30.9%), “lack of a systematic curriculum”(25.2%), and “lack of a educational opportunity”(22.8%). Ninety five percent of subjects wished to have nutrition education taught as an independent subject. They pointed out “kindergarten”(60.0%) and “lower grades in elementary school”(33.9%) as the optimal starting times for nutritional education and “school dietitians”(91.3%) as suitable teachers for these programs. The required topics chosen by the subjects for nutritional education for children were “proper eating habits”(54.2%) and “nutritional problem”(31.5%). The dietitians thought “food prejudices”(44.7%), “rat too much processed and instant foods”(36.5%), and “obesity”(11.8%) were the most common nutritional problems among elementary school children. These results suggest the necessity of solving the nutritional problems in children by developing a nutritional education program. Along with this program, if dietitian assisted programs for parents were developed, the effects of nutritional education could definitely be increased.

Effects of counselling on the adaptation and behaviors of inmates (교정상담이 수형자의 적응과 수용생활에 미치는 영향)

  • The present research examine the impacts of correctional counselling for prisoners on their adaptation and behaviors in the correctional facilities. Three kinds of counselling - characteristic, religious, and individual - were given to prisoners and the prisoner's behavioral changes were measured. Specifically, the participating prisoners' behavioral evaluations and punishment records were assessed before, right after, and two months after the counseling sessions. In addition, a control group in which the prisoner were not given any session of counselling was included for comparison. The main results found that the prisoners in the characteristic counselling showed significantly higher increasement of positive behaviors than those in the control group. Of more importance, the improvement were maintained two months after the ends of the counselling sessions. With its external validity, the practical implications and limitations of the present findings were discussed together.
